We're ripping Bethesda off

Post » Wed Oct 21, 2015 2:58 am

Seriously, the amount we are getting out of this game......the sheer number of hours of pure entertainment and fun it's guaranteed to offer. It really makes £55 look like daylight robbery.

I don't buy a great deal of games. I hate all forms of online gaming. Never have or will be a PSN+ or Xbox Live Gold subscriber

Bethesda have delivered me FOUR masterpieces that way exceed their actual retail value. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Now Fallout 4 taking the number up to 5. These games offer so much replay value and last years.

There is no way a game so tedious and small like The Order: 1886 should be priced the same as something that really crosses the line into outright genius and continues the momentum for years.

These single player Elder Scrolls and Fallout games are gifts that keep on giving. They shower love all over the single player gamer. Hardly any games are doing that anymore.

The last true masterpiece was Grand Theft Auto V in 2013. But I fear we have lost Rockstar Games. They had officially confirmed single player storyline DLC content for that game to appear in 2014. But it never happened. And they now confirmed they have no plans to do any single player stuff anymore......focusing on embezzling money out of micro-transactions for the Online part of the game instead. It's over. They cashed out.

This is why those that do go way over the extra miles to bring true greatness to single player gamers should be rewarded.....and rewarded extra well. Todd Howard, Pete Hines.....every single person involved in the making of this game have earned themselves immense fortune. And they really should get it.

As much as I hate these various online crowd fundraiser events that are nearly always scams......there really should be one set up to send these Bethesda staff on a massive tropical island vacation this holiday season. Beautiful beaches, resting in hammocks with lovely ladies serving cocktails, 5 star hotels, fine wine and champagne on ice. This is what they deserve after all the effort they put in.

This game is what I bought my PS4 for. Had a PS4 since late June, not played any games on it. All I done is put £55 on the PSN wallet......ready to purchase Fallout 4 on 10th November. Digital download now actually pre-ordered.

But £55 though......I just don't think it's enough. I pre-ordered their official guide, which I will hardly ever use, just to inflate the amount a bit.

Do you think £55 is way too low for a game that not only offers true long-lasting greatness......but is also one of the last real games to cater exclusively to single player gamers?

It makes me really annoyed when I just know that Call of friggin Duty is going to totally dominate the sale charts yet again this holiday....on all systems. That's what the overwhelming marority of gamers desire. More and more developers are selling out to them.

The incentive to reward a game like Fallout 4 has never been more strong.

I *definitely* think I'm getting good value per dollar spent, that's for sure.

"Ripping off" has a very definite connotation of one side of a trade walking away with practically no gain. I don't think that's the case. Bethesda is getting what they want, and I'm getting what I want at a price both of us find equitable.

HA!

But seriously, $60 is fine. These are very good games, great even, but not some God given gift from on high. My PS3 version of Skyrim still barely works. We don't even know if Fallout 4 will actually be that good.

Well this thread is fun:

  • The customer base is ripping off Bethesda paying too little for nirvana, vs.
  • The game is ****

Interesting to see such a wide and improbable set of views...

Gosh I feel so guilty now. I hope Bethesda can console itself with that giant mountain of money. I need to go wash my hands.

Yeah, it's kinda ridiculous if you think about the money-unit/hour -value and other games which cost the same but are about 10-20 hours long. But higher than average price would be financial suicide.

While I'm a big fan of Bethesda, I also realize it's a company motivated by profit and not a charity. What we get on Nov 10th will be what Bethesda thinks is the right quality product at an acceptable price to earn them their target profit. If they thought that the sales price was too low, they would have either increased the price, or lowered the quality to attain the desired profit. The fact that other companies have different opinions on thier quality/price ratio doesn't mean that we're ripping Bethesda off at all.

Some of us are putting the house up for auction to be able to get the pipboy so i feel quite okay about the extra hours of game-play they are giving away for nearly nothing to most of us fallout fans, but yeah i love the idea of having over 200 hours of content to go nuts with, and the crafting system looking forward to messing with my characters power armour and the settler system also looks nice, and once i get tired of that part i will go to my favourite mod site and get a lot of mods to do something else with the game, i still go back to fallout 3, new Vegas and Skyrim for some modding fun with the games.

I Don't think they are ripping us off, rather other companies are.

I for one always support bethesda for their quality games packed with 100's of hours of content.

I don't often pre-order anymore but their games i do, season pass included, i might even get the official guide just to support.

Take star wars battlefront as comparison.. barely any maps and a season pass worth $50!, half off the content you will be getting in that season pass is gutted content that was originally in the game in the first place!

I think there is more value in FPS games.

RPG's take a lot of work and aren't by far as exciting as shooters are.

Half-Life and Halo are more movie-like while Fallout can get pretty stiff and empty.

We are totally ripping Bethesda off when you compare its products with the rest of the industry.

In general, games are overpriced and frankly there are not too many quality AAA games out there. That's the reason most people pirate their games too. We gamers as consumers, are criminally stupid letting companies such as EA and many others live and thrive with our money, milking us with cashgrabs, lazy products and bad quality games.

There are a few companies who actually deserve our money and in Bethesda's case, it deserves even more.

Calling fallout 4 a masterpiece before it's even out is a little bit of a stretch, IMO. While it might be a very good game, there's already a lot of scepticism I have with the game pre release to consider it a masterpiece before i even play it.

Though i do agree i get the best value for gameplay with bethesda games than any other game out there. But i see that more as other game studios like Ubisoft is ripping us off by selling a new assassin's creed game for 70 dollars canadian, while Skyrim or fallout 3 or New Vegas were 60 dollars brand new, and gave me infinitely more gameplay time and enjoyment.

I'd buy a bethesda game on the caliber of Fallout New Vegas for 120 dollars though no problem. If I had more reassurances with Fallout 4, I would as well, but in its current state with the amount of known information, I'm gonna wait at least a few months, if not until game of the year edition comes out before buying Fallout 4 at full price.

We shall see what Bethesda's ultimate vision is for the future after November 10th. With the information from what we know of Fallout 4, i have a sneaky feeling that they are going towards the more mainstream FPS crowd who buy the cookie cutter call of duty games now with Fallout 4, and less away from the RPG fans of Fallout New Vegas and the original Fallout games.

I hope I'm wrong, and will be pleasantly surprised if I am, but im very sceptical with the whole situation.

This is one of those things where excellence is its own reward. Other open world rpgs are compared to them, and other companies strive to match or top what they create. Their reputation apparently gives them enough pull with microsoft to allow mods on consoles, something i don't recall ever happening before. For what little marketing they've done look how much buzz fallout 4 is getting.

I'd say that bethesda produces games that give you the most bang for your buck, outside of mmos which aren't really my thing

And hopefully will re-invest it in TES 6! I don't feel guilty at all spending more than 200E on Fallout 4 knowing that some of that money is going to develop the next TES. No offense to Fallout fans, but my passion for these 2 series goes like

Fallout :spotted owl: :spotted owl:

TES :spotted owl: :spotted owl: :spotted owl: :spotted owl: :spotted owl: :spotted owl: :spotted owl: :spotted owl:

Now that you mention it: It's rather funny that people find it okay to consider the game a masterpiece based on the limited material we have been presented, but it's crazy to be skeptical or worried based on the material we have seen. :bonk:

If Bethesda started setting the price to how much fun we get out of it, then very few people will buy it. Most people are unwilling to buy a game if it is over $100 unless it is a Collector's Edition. Obviously, Bethesda is going by creating a great game and setting it at a standard price so more people play it. If I am spending 400 hours playing Fallout 4, then it is 400 hours where I am not playing another game.

They have definitely given us a huge bang for our bucks. Or whatever currency you use.. :P

With over 600 hours in Fallout 3, about 400 in Morrowind and over 2200 hours in Oblivion, and counting, I can safely say they haven′t disappointed me in the slightest.

I′m also greatful for the Abomb bug in Oblivion. Without it I would never have found this place and so many good people. So if anyone at Beth reads this; from the bottom of my heart, thank you! :)

This is why I love the TES/Fallout series, therefor Bethesda! Soooo much content for so little. Awesome!

I'm with you Oddo. TES is my first love but I still love the Fallouts. (Starting where Bethesda took over having never played the originals.)

This is not a healthy reasoning. The price should not be aimed at really devoted fans only, those can buy collector editions, statues, artbooks and whatnot to show support; there is more demographic that any game must address, like buyers who never heard of Fallout for instance. If Assassin's Creed would cost $200 because some really devoted fans are willing to pay, and GTA VI costs $200 because its fans are willing to pay, and so on, then they negate a lot of "random", impulse purchases which are probably a good proportion of every AAA game.

don't forget DLCs. if gamers like the core game, they tend to buy such. often these are plan out ahead of time.
