River Monsters

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:50 pm

Anybody watched that show on animal planet? You see how they have so many different types of fish? It would cool to see different types of deadly fish in the water like an ecosystem. To be honest it will be cool if they make this elder scrolls like fallout where you will see hostile creatures fighting each other, but this time have hostile creatures actually hunting instead of mindlessly fighting other hostiles. So if you swim in a lake you would see a predator fish eating smaller fish. Anyways has fishing been confirmed because I heard about it but I dont know if it is confirmed. I didnt like how in oblivion there was this huge lake but like 2 of the same exact crabs and fish, they wasnt even different sizes. If it doesnt make the game I hope modders work on it, even though that would be a huge thing if the devs added it. So let me know what you think or any ideas of yourself.

I agree, there needs to be more diversity then just slaughterfish.
They could always go with Spore approach though, and have a lockeness monster type thing eat you if you try to swim to far out North

One of the lamest things about Oblivion was that you essentially had just the mudcrab and slaughterfish found underwater (in addition to swimming humanoids). But it's not just Oblivion, it has always been just two or three different underwater creatures found.

So here's some suggestions:

- Skeletal Slaughterfish (undead)
- Jellyfish-like monster
- Different types of slaughterfish - fat, boy, slim, etc (oh wait, strike "boy" that didn't make any sense)
- Lobster or other crustacean, land dreughs and whatnot
- Sharks, seals, whatever. E.g. return the Horker walrus from Bloodmoon.

I like your suggestions, It makes a lot of sense too. I mean they should know "where there is water there is life". I would like to see some stingrays too. Man I'm seriously thinking about learning their engine so If this doesnt make the game I could add it my self.

yeah, OB water life was shockingly absent. they should at least bring back dreugh for no other reason that there is nothing to fight in large water bodies. the nibiny basin was large enough an area but had nothing to fight.

I agree, there needs to be more diversity then just slaughterfish.

idk about this, it sounds worse than an invisable wall.

How cool would it be if there was a quest where you went to the bottom of the ocean right off shore to find a sunken pirate ship and had to fight the undead pirates underwater. There were some undead pirates in Oblivion, several actually, but undead pirate underwater fights would be awesome

Edit: I guess thats a little off topic so yes I would love more diverse and dangerous underwater life

Oh right.

Welcome to the forums. Have a http://images.uesp.net//c/c4/Fishystick.jpg!

OT: Yeah, this would be a nice detail to see while exploring. Hopefully there'll be true "river monsters" in some areas as well (you know, some kind of horrid slimy monstrosity slobbering its way out of the water as the PC approaches).

Its already confirmed animals and creatures are not automatically hostile towards you, unless: 1) they are in a sort of "hunting mode", or 2) you provoke them.

And already in Oblivion wolves, minotaurs and imperial guards, ect, could fight with each other.

if there was the threat of getting eaten by a giant sea-beast i definitely wouldn't want to go too far out.

i meant that it was a bad Idea. I would rather bump into an invisable wall than to suddenly die and have to reload.

That's true, but you'd only have to reload once and then realize not to do it again lol

I agree, invisible walls are far more practical than giant sea monsters that kill you when leave the boundaries. And what would happen if you defeated the monster... would you then run into an invisible wall? I feel like monsters instantly killing you when you leave an area only works in a more straight action game that has checkpoints. But I think it would be cool if there were shortcuts blocked by super hard underwater monsters. Like an underwater passage to go through (or under I guess...) a mountain that would take a while to go around or over, but the passage has a formidable sea beast dwelling in it.

Wow that is a huge idea, dont really see that one too much in games. Its like the part in the first Lord of The Rings where they couldnt go any further in the mountains so they tried the mines and almost got killed multiple ways lol. So yeah I like that one!

That is exactly what I was thinking of... :D giant octopus looking thing (was it called The Watcher?) followed by cave troll+goblin horde in small room followed by goblin army swarming you followed by Balrog

I would love to see a fishing system put into Skyrim. I hope they put in some more aquatic life as well like huge snapping turtles, sharks, loch ness monster type creatures, sea-dragons, maybe mermaids and merman?, and of course the mud crab.

Too late...

Anyways, I would like to have more alive waters too, along with more different creatures in the water, the amount should increase too. In Oblivion and Morrowind it was unlikely to get attacked while swimming about, so the water seemed safer than land sometimes. I expect to atleast see a higher population of aquatic enemies.

I really wouldn't mind if the diversity of aquatic monsters was just about the same, as long as the water feels alive. It should be teeming with non-hostile fish, even if there are oly two or three different kinds of fish. Honestly, I'm so irrationally afraid of aquatic monsters (even the sea monster you ride in Super Mario 64 scares the hell out of me to this day) that I really wouldn't mind if there was roughly the same amount and diversity of hostile creatures, but I would certainly like to see more non-hostile ones.

getting lost in the sauce while fighting a giant kraken, getting thrown around in first person would be awesome. (wow, that was terrible grammar)

I would imagine the Horker would make a return.
