Roads

I hope so - the impending doom does kind of let them off the hook if it's not there (as Calemvir said above), but I would like to see more people when out on my travels.

[Edit] Slightly OT, but not enough to make a new thread I think: how about random encounters? It was one of the things I really liked in FO3 and it wouldn't look out of place in a TES game, I reckon.

Yeah, I liked random encounters, but GODDAMIT, they were buggy.
1.Go to Mega Mart (or whatever the eff it is), see the guy get chased down by dogs.
2.Go to Mega Mart, see the guy get chased down by dogs.
3.Go to Mega Mart, see the guy get chased down by dogs.
4.Go to Mega Mart, see the guy get chased down by dogs.
5.Go to Mega Mart, see the guy get chased down by dogs.
6.Go to Mega Mart, see the guy get chased down by dogs.

Yeah, that was my experience. It was kinda funny, but really immersion-killing(oh wait, it was Fallout 3, there was no immersion).
(But Fallout 3 was good)

fool them into thinking you are a ranking officer and ordering them to return to the front lines.

Wow that is twisted...

Also, I am under the impression that civil war will be brewing at the outset of the game, not declared so do you all think that their might be a shift if the types of people you find traveling the roads after it break into war?

It would be quite immersive if the people you encounter on the roads changed based on where you are in the main quest and side quests. An example would be if you killed a goblin warchief (which would presumably be much rarer than they were in Oblivion) then the chances of Goblins from that Warchief's tribe spawning would be decreased temporarily.

I hope the dragons don't completely destroy the towns when I'm dundgeon diving. That would be too sad :cold: :(

Actually, that is something I have been wondering about. How are they going to have dragons attacking the town without almost completely destroying them?

With dragons rauaging the countryside I have to believe that there would definitely be people who would risk leaving the safety of towns for the wilderness out of fear.
Think about it... if you were a dragon would you waste your time scouring the land for the occasional small group of nomads, or just go for that big cluster of civilization just begging to be burnt to ash.
I don't know about you but I'd definitely risk the bandits and monsters over being dragon napalmed in my nice warm bed.

dragons are smart. If they kept attacking the towns for food they'd run out and starve. For them the towns are the breeding grounds for their "cattle" they'll only attack towns to intimidate or eat, but only if they're starving. For something as big as they are they can do quite a while without food.

Good point and not something that I had thought of before hand. However, the dragons would not have to completely destroy the towns. I might have to look at the article in game informer again, but I do believe it stated that the dragons are quite pissed about the civilizations that have progressed in their absence. If that is the case, they would be bent on the destruction of those towns and communities, and feed off of larger forms of life such as deer, elk ,and bear... not to mention trolls or anything like that.

Edit: I just re-read the article and it is that they are pissed, but because they were banished from the world for thousands of years and not due to civilization.

I really hope the roads aren't empty like in OB. I'd like to see random travelers, people carting goods to market, guarded carriages escorting royalty, caravans, etc, in addition to the random bandits we meet.

The roads in general just felt empty. It was as if no one ever left their city dwellings.

... I have a feeling we're not gonna see many imperial patrols. Remember what happened to the empire? Right, it's not there anymore.

But yes, I'd very much like some activity on the roads, and I'm quite sure Bethesda will have implemented it somewhat....

Even in dangerous times some people can't hire an escort. Also some people think they can handle themselves. I do believe you should have a choice of hiring an escort per the rules of the caravan, some might have escorts included mandated in the price while others have it being optional depending on how far you're traveling. Also I think there should be a mercenary guild where you can be hired as an escort for private or public hire.

i really hope for a more dynamic world this time...

imagine this in the future....you look at a village miles away and you see smoke....you barely see people...because theyre are so distant...but a battle is happening there ...

i mean... a entire dynamic world that is living despite your existence....

Yeah!!!

Imagine hiring a body guard which is a good friend of yours.

Since there is no zoom-in talking he will talk with you as you travel the roads. Then you can talk about fun stuff. :hubbahubba:

But oh the noes! your body guard gets shot in the head with an arrow! He was a good friend... :violin:

But now he dead! And you maybe too if you don't find cover quickly! You'll never know how fast that murderous archer can be!

These are why we need roads with activity, and how to best implement them.
