Robes over armour.

Yes, it's annoying have 0 AR in the chest slot simply because I choose to wear robes to augment my Magika instead of some bulky ass armor.

It would be neat, but it's doesn't even come close to being worth the additional man-hours it would cost Bethesda, not for such a minor feature. There's a million other things the game needs worse, and that's why I voted "no".

While it would be very cool, I have to second this. Hell, i think there should have been half as many dungeons and BRANCHING quest-lines, but what do I know?

I'm gonna say no, and here's why:

I will admit I liked this in Morrowind, and sometimes I preferred it. That doesn't mean the entire premise of wearing a robe over ARMOR isn't utterly insane.

Picture in your head someone wearing typical steel plate armor. Now imagine that person trying to fit some sort of robe or really any clothing over that armor. Now imagine that person trying to engage in any sort of combat with that outfit. Think about whether or not the person would even be able to benefit from having that armor in the first place.

You would fall on your face and find it incredibly difficult to move. Whether the robe or clothing fit tightly or loosely it would be a complete disaster.

It's just not practical and it doesn't make sense to allow it.

No. Not because of balance, or technical reasons, those can be handled easily. Because it's [censored] silly. You wouldn't wear a robe over your armor for the same reason you wouldn't wear a sock over your boot; not only would you have a hell of a time putting the damn thing on, but it would also break apart in an instant.

I'd prefer that if you get a layer of cloth over armor it would have to be a tabard.

That makes a lot more sense.

Robes or tabards would be so nice to wear above armor........ even without enchantment on them.

No robes over armour please!

UNLESS it's a cloak ... or other types of clothes that have yet been implemented in the game. Then it'd be a nice idea too to have people actually belonging a higher class if they're wearing these types of clothes and with exclusive benefits to come. Sounds like a mod for me!

But for now I just find it silly to picture my lithe Dark Elf walking like a troll with bunches of steel under his fashionable college robes.

Protip: You can enchant armor with the same effect as robes.

Protip Addendum: To do so, you first need to work up the relevant skillsets, add the appropriate perks, find and burn other gear with the enchantment you want and either buy or start harvesting appropriate soulgems, and (optionally) use other enchanted gear and potions to augment your abilities to produce comparable or better results.

Back on topic, I'm not too fussed about layering clothing if I'm honest. Although I think it could look good if I could wear a cape, cloak or tabard with armour (with some heraldry to indicate affiliation perhaps), it doesn't really affect how I play the game. What perplexes me is that I can't weigh down my neck and fingers (or ears, if I'm Khajiit) with gold and jewels like Mr T.

I'm a berserker and while the Ancient Nord Armor does look right, it'd be even more awesome if I could have a fur robe or cape on top.

Naaah... Having everything at once kind of defeats the purpose of chosing between higher protection and higher magical abilities. Besides, you have five to six slots you can enchant to compensate if you want to wear those snuggie robes.

Becoming a Demigod is possible, as always, it just takes more effort and achieving more with less resources just feels better, but that's a personal thing.

I don't we think need to be able to wear more enchants, but un-enchanted robes over armor is fine. I already have a mod that gives me a set of leather armor with the appearance of robes though, but I guess it would've been nice for console users with no such option. Alteration armor spells are too much of a pain to recast all the time and dragonhide is the only decent one, so those who prefer robes get stuck with either practicality or aesthetics.

C'mon, naysayers. If you are voting no, at least let me know WHY. What are the disadvantages? I can't think of none but added choice and versatility for hybrid classes.

Ill bite, in Morrowind it was kind of lame because no matter what armour you had on the robes you wear over the top always had a slimming effect on the armour making it appear as if you were wearing no armour at all, if you are serious about this being implented in a believable way then unless you are wearing a suit of chain any armour you wear over the top of your armour would just make your character look bulky and quite frankly stupid, besides wearing a robe that makes your armour magically disappear while retaining the protection it grants doesnt make your character look like a battlemage or spell sword, just makes your character look like a man in a dress and if that is all you want just wait till the construction set comes out and create some robes with a rediculously high armour rating, problem solved.

For all you people who are saying no, because you think it would be too hard to implement, read the question again. The OP does not ask that, all they ask is whether or not you think robes should be able to be worn over armour, regardless of implementation time and effort.

If your question is only about robes over armour then my answer is no for the reasons I just stated, however if the question extends to layering in general then I cannot give an answer without bringing up implementation time and effort, in a perfect world where resources are infinate and ideas can be brought to life purely with the power of thought then yeah I would love to see layering, seperate greaves and pauldrons and unicorns that fly by harnessing the power of rainbows however why these things are not implemented in the latest installment of the Elder Scrolls series is directly related to implementation time and effort.

I'm indifferent to this. But if they do it, wearing robes over armour should come with additional mobility penalties.

i quite often wear a sock over my boot (sneakers) if my boot isn't black and the club I want to go in is shirt and shoes. pop my black sock over it and ta-daaa bouncer is non the wiser. but i agree that putting a robe over armour from a practicability stand point is a silly idea. a tabard would be much better.

Oh and some stuff about tabards. You could have one tabard with the crest from each of the major cities, as well as some tabards you could receive from quests that are more special. And perhaps some other tabards you find from adventures.

I always thought wearing a robe over armour was pretty stupid actually. Now if they accomplished the same goal by letting you wear a cape that would be OK.

In Morrowind, you could wear clothing under your armor. I mean - who wears their armor right next to their skin? The chafing! :cryvaultboy:

In Daggerfall, you could wear a robe and at least two cloaks over your armor. You could also wear pants with that, though I believe the robe took the shirt slot.

I just want it because it looked really cool. Especially when you got mods involved so the robe could be open to reveal parts of the armor underneath. Cool look.

In Daggerfall, the same piece of clothing could be worn different ways. A robe with a hood could be worn with the hood up or down. Many shirts could be buttoned all the way up or left halfway unbuttons. Yes, beware of cleavage showing if you are female :-P

It's an opportunity cost issue: dev time spent on implementing this feature is dev time not spent on developing other features. Making a system where cloth with deform realistically over a variety of armor shapes is not trivial.

Just make the robe baggy. That's the type my Daggerfall character is wearing... with a cloak over top! :-D

Naaah... Having everything at once kind of defeats the purpose of chosing between higher protection and higher magical abilities.

You're turning it into a balance issue. Fashion is hardly about balance. It's about realism and choice. Why should we NOT be able to wear a robe or cloak over our armor if we choose to do so? Daggerfall did it. Morrowind did it. Not to mention the role-playing aspect it brings. My Daggerfall Nord likes to wear robes and cloaks over her armor in order to hide what she's wearing underneath ;-)

Too "spreadsheety".

They're also trying to remove every good feature one by one make a new game every time do something good.

I wish Daggerfall's armour system would return. I LOVED that. Seriously, it doesn't take much more effort to merely create an extra slot and seperate the armour pieces.
