Robes

Post » Mon Jul 25, 2011 12:39 am

I hope robes get some sort of advantage in skyrim, in oblivion they where nearly pointless. First because it was only a singal article of clothing as opposed to shirt pants so it has less enchanting power over all. And after you master an armor set your spell effectiveness is 95% so you don't lose out much. I think robes should be given the abliry to have better enchantments to offset basic clothing and armor.

Yep. Robes were pretty useless in Oblivion.

I was thinking something along the lines of an automatic stealth bonus when wearing dark colored robes.

Armors are designed for fighting and robes not. Wearing a robe in combat shouldn't be better than wearing an armor, neither for a warrior nor for a mage.

bet you 3 fish sticks and a weight-less carrot that ALL uppers and lowers (not helmets, hats, boot, shoes, gloves, and bracers) will be combined.

But if armor is always goig to have the advantage what's the point of even having robes. My idea is that robes should get maybe double or tripple the enchantment points.

Robes are formal clothing. Mages use bound armor and shield spell.

...do you know how annoying it is to Ty to bound a full set of armor plus a weapon each time you go into combat?

I think robes should give like a +5 stealth bonus ( or +5 magic for mage robes) and also hoods could protect your identity maybe??

I like the look no matter what level I am. As long as we can still wear boots, gauntlets and helmets with them. Also, I hated the fact in Oblivion you couldn't wear amulets/necklaces over robes, except for Mankar Camaron's robe and the Emperor's robe. I hope in Skyrim you can wear the amulets over the robe along with of course the diadems that are now in the game. Gives a new look for the mages.

I never bothered with robes in Oblivion, probably because there wasn't much use for them, besides aesthetics (for me at least). I would like to see some cloaks & capes!

On that note, why can't we have an armored robe, then? I understand that the stereotypical fantasy mage when most people think of one looks like Gandalf. Long beard, robe, but honestly, I'm kind of sick of it. I'm not saying make it better than the armor a warrior would get, but I don't understand why every mage has to be allergic to metal...

I think it would be nice if we could wear robes over armor like in Morrowind. I don't really see this happening though.

To balance robes with armor, I think all they need to do is have armor take a good chunk of spell effectiveness (or the game's equivalent) when worn, and don't provide perks to remove that penalty. If you always have to consider the tradeoff between spell power and armor, that should basically take care of balance.

I don't know about +5 stealth... have you tried sneaking in a robe like that before?

Lets just say there's a reason why, historically, thieves and assassins used average to fitted, but not free flowing garments. Causes excessive movement that attracts attention. Which, haha, isn't the usual goal for someone in that profession.

Perhaps a perk that let's you colaps to the ground in a robe so people walk by and just think your a pile of laundry! Lol but then you'll die after somebody throws you into TES version of an industrial washing machine!

Robes are worn because they don't reduce spell effectiveness like armor does, and wearing normal clothes looks silly.

I'd like to see a meaningful trade off for casters wearing armour. There should be a reason for a caster to want regular old clothes or robes over full plate, be it more damage, lower magicka costs, faster casting, or whatever Besthesda can come up with. And it shouldn't be able to be overcome by levelling up a skill. The benefit to clothing should always be there.

I've yet to find a benefit to clothing... or are we talking about the game?
