Role of Children

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2011 8:26 am

Would Bethesda get in trouble if they made the kids work a bit? Or would that piss someone off?

Everything in a game pisses someone off. So many people raging against games that they go out of their way to almost comical lengths to find things to demonize the game over.

Argonian children present an interesting conundrum, in that they really oughta hatch from eggs. I hope that's represented in the game!

We will probably just have children in an age segment like in fallout 6-14 years old. No problem with that, more a question how litle lamplight was still full of children after hundreds of years.
And yes Khajiit kittens sounds cute, a shame you can not pull them in the tail, first time I saw a khajiit in Morrowind I tried to figure out a way to pull tail.

Argonians are ovoviviparous, the most stupid word in the world.

Khajiit and Argonians, yes!

I shudder a bit to think of an Orc child though.

Kids are often cuter than their advlt counter parts. Look at warcraft orcs for example.

If there are quests to where you have to rescue them from some place like a dungeon, Im hoping for the journey home you can carry them on your back because kids are slow at running.

Their sole purpose is Dragon's food. Mmm fleshy M&M's...

LOL that`s what i was thinking...drag the little brats up the mountainside and leave them chained to Dragons dinner bowl

*Remembers Lamplight Brats*

All for the sole reason that the luvly wuvly kiddies and fluffy dragons could play together all day long in cutesy land.

Kids would be excellent quest starters...because they are unkillable.

Skyrim aims to be realistic in it's environment, but also the NPCs ways of living. So I'd want to see something that mimics what real life children would be doing in a world like Skyrim. I imagine that they grow up fast, getting married at 16 years old may seem like an crazy idea for us, but it is rather common in the fantasy game world where children must grow up fast. The ones that are big enough to go out hunting, like 12 years old, should be doing that in addition to everything else they might be doing. Even younger children should stay in the city, playing games with each other and practising swords fighting with real swords if they are above 11 and wooden swords if they are younger.

Bethesda implemented children in Fallout 3 without any problems.
So there won't be a problem putting them in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Indeed, any problems can simply be avoided by making it so that children are immortal, as was the case in Fallout 3, and I'll discuss that subject no further, due to forum rules. And I'm pretty sure Oblivion never had children to begin with, not that Bethesda put them in then removed them.

But anyway, I'd imagine that children will be handled similarly to in Fallout 3, in that they'll be NPCs that populate the world, sometimes they're just there to make the world feel more inhabited, other times, they might be involved in quests. Whether as quest givers, or quests where some NPC tells you to go save his child or something along those lines.

I hope they're relatively out-of-the-way. Some street urchins serving in the employ of the Thieves Guild would be pretty cool, and they'll definitely be the subject of many Radiant story quests, but otherwise I want them to mostly remain with their parents or at home. Out of my way. :stare:

I hope they make them run up and crowd around you just to annoy you. :P

On a serious note.

I don't get why they would be forced to exclude kids from OB, Fable has had kids since the first installment.

I hope it's miminal just like it was in New Vegas but I don't want to see another Little Lamplight. If they're going to have the brats be in the game then they need to have no combat AI or anything of that nature. They can't be treated as enemies if you want to wipe out a village or attack their family.

If it was up to me we wouldn't have children in the game because when you include them in the game the chances of something controversial coming up gets increased. Also since the cities are now presumably open how realistic is it if your being chased by a Troll and he follows you into the village and a child walks in front of it. The game doesn't feel real to me if the kid just gets knocked out. That is why I'm against having children in this game. It ruins the gameplay and you need to add other factors in that could be used to make the gameplay better. Also how realistic would it be if a Dragon would fly into a village how is a child going to survive against a Dragon.

In my opinion Oblivion got it right with not having kids in the game and I hope the kids are taken out but if they aren't it's not a big deal but it would be very disappointing.

I am not a fan of adding kids to Tes, I admit it's more realistic but I'll try to stay away from them because the ones in Fallout 3 were annoying as hell.

I'm looking forward to see what the children look like.
As in .little orc's,khajiits, argonians etc, would be cool,it's add's to atmosphere.
I also hope they run around playing or play fight, pretending to be someone famous,or pretend to be guards, dragonborn etc.would be fun.
I do hope they are better than the fallout one's.
I won't be thanked for saying this, but i hope they are more like what fable did, cuter, running around and tripping up etc.

Yea. Bethesda get's all touchy on the subject.

But I guess the rating changed right? Oblivion had no kinds but Fallout 3 did...and New Vegas did too.

As far as I'm concerned the world was just fine without kids, but once they appear, I bet they become a given for future games, like voice acting. So I really hope they can do interesting kids with believable kid behaviour and not just a smaller advlt with child voice. I'm also very curious how they will sound, especially the argonians and khajiit. They could be either very good or very bad, I don't see a half way here.

You sure you want to see young Khajiit up close? You know what their equivalent of Mehrunes Dagon is? A kitten.

You can't say that stuff. Bethesda is whiny about that subject and you will get in trouble. Edit the post.

Ah that reminds me of the Dragon Age 2 forums.
BioWare makes the PC's sister the sixiest character in the game and go crazy when anybody mentions romancing her. :lmao:
