Role of Children

Ah that reminds me of the Dragon Age 2 forums.
BioWare makes the PC's sister the sixiest character in the game and go crazy when anybody mentions romancing her. :lmao:

You just tempted me to google the PC's sister.

I would hate children in the game - so unnecessary .

Why is it unnecessary excactly?
I would say the oposite to you,it's more real/immersive,nothing wrong with it.

I'm hoping for at least in the big cities for there ot be schools. There was a few in Fallout 3 and NV, so maybe they'll return in Skyrim? You could be a special guest or something after achieving enough fame.

Well, since it's not a post apocalyptic world like Fallout, I expect they will be enrolled in some sort of educational institution, craft apprentice program, or with caregivers.
I would expect to see them playing in groups, running errands with or for their parents, and running into the occasional socially malajusted brat. There will probably be a few quests involving rescuing/finding/assisting them and/or their parents. Here's to hoping that those quests would be side quests, and not directly related to the main quest.
Children can be distracting in that you must manage their behavior, needs, and above all, safety. I would think that once dragons make their appearance, Skyrim parents will be more cautious.

Their role should be:

Clean my house
Make me dinner
Fetch my ale
Mine some ore
Mend my armor
Shield me from dragon's breath
etc...

That depends. On one hand I'd really like children in the game as it could definitely add to the immersion. On the other hand though, if you are not allowed to do The Unmentionable to children that can be even more of an immersion breaker than not having them at all.

So why is no one bringing up the issue of non-human children? Am I the only one excited to see what a Khajiit cub, an Argonian youth, a Dunmer youngling and an Orc child might look and sound like? (On note, they'll need more voice actors per race seeing as childrens' voices might be included)

I see your point, but i'd still like them there.
Talking to children can be amusing, and would be alot different ( at times ) than talking to all the advlt races.
There are many reasons why it would be nice to add children, but thats just my view :)
Aslong as they don't do them like fallout,i were'nt keen on them in fallout,i did'nt like their voices either.

I think children shouldn't have it made like in fallout 3/ Vegas. For example poorer families use them for hard labor as farmers or for housework ('The Axe Man' book is a good example) while a nobles child would be heavily trained every day to become the man he is required to be and so on and so forth.
I think this would give us sympathy for the children instead of annoyance. Seeing them running around the streets homeless is stupid, they would die before the first month ends in such a climate.

I don't much care to have many children in the game, unless they serve a purpose to the story. Children are a very touchy subject to alot of parents, and cause PR problems for the company unless they are set to un-killable.

If they have a role in the story, GREAT! But if they would be added just for realism, minimal use is best IMHO.

Some kids in Fallout 3 were ok (not the Lamplighters though!) I liked the kids in Megaton and Rivet City - one was an orphan who was taken in by someone (suggested out of guilt or something by someone else), and generally lives a good life despite the tragic past. Then you have the kid with a mother (can't remember if there's a father), and he's neglected and pretty much left to fend for himself. There was also the Sherif's son in Megaton too - I remember the Sherif being killed and feeling so bad when I realised that boy was now an orphan. Those kids had distinct personalities and weren't nearly as annoying as the Lamplighters - I think having them in will be a plus overall if they're done like that.

It has already been confirmed that children are in game and can/will play a part in Radiant-story-generated quests. In the interview with Todd Howard that was Podcast (the "Toddcast") he said that a quest could be generated whereby you come into a new town, and a townsperson asks you to rescue his kid, who is believed to be held in a particular cave. The cave is chosen by Radiant Story in a location the PC hasn't explored yet. Cool stuff.

ON topic, I would hope that children would have realistic routines based on Nordic culture - does that mean they go to school? They work at family businesses as soon as they are able? Some of both?

why do you hate children :cryvaultboy: they are the future, the light of the world, you should be happy that they are in the game and are able to share your experiences with them.

if kids get my attention for how awesome and cool they are then definitly i would be their friends.... wait.... i don't want my character to be a pedophile! NO WAY KIDS MUST BE KILLED (if they piss me off , of course, there would be no point to kill them at all , and i do think childeren aren't even going to talk to you, they are only going to make the environment alive, and, i hated fallout kids, mainly because of their talking animation, it was so bad, but doo badd.. and they all looked ugly as hell!)

I love it how oblivion got flamed for not having children, and now people want there not to be children.

Something just tells me people will complain no matter what.

(Spears, AHEM)

On topic. Thats great that they've been confirmed to have a role in radiant AI quests, but I still would want to know more about their routines, will they be random? How will their parent's NPC schedules change, if they do at all?

There's one thing I don't understand, why is it a game that is probably going to be rated Mature has it's main official forum and the rest of the site structred in an Age 13+ type bracket. I understand keeping the languange friendly I wouldn't want every other person dropping F Bombs but doesn't that incourage teen players to pick up the game when it's supposed to be played by people who are around or above the Mature Line which depending on the country is 17+. I'm sorry to take it off topic here but I think that's mindblowing.

I think I might play Fallout 3 after all, I was not going to as I'm not that much into post-apocalypse games, but I'm curious to see exactly how annoying are those kids to know what to expect in Skyrim.

You're leaving out the part where it is the pc they want to be able to romance her. I don't think incist would go very far on these forums, either.

bethesda knows better then to make their children killable. I hope the children are part of some quests but maybe like 2 or 3. other then that i think the main reason for adding children will be making the game feel more real.
