Role-Play advice

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 8:35 pm

I want to start a roleplay of a lone ranger, Cowboy weapons and picking Dialogue that is pretty intelligent but not cocky or funny.

I was wondering if people could suggest armour and weapons that I could use and where I could base out of. Would the bar near boulder city be good or Goodsprings?

Thanks :)

Are you playing on PC? If you are then you need this: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/36154

Also I think the unique magnum called "Lucky" is really good for the first half of the game. You can find it locked in a floor safe in the bison steve (75 lockpicking required). On my ranger character I wasn't good at lockpicking but I was good with explosives. And with the project Nevada mod I was able to blow the lock open with dynamite :P

If I we're roleplaying a lone ranger, I might take over one of the abandoned farms north of Vegas, as a "base." I think that area is about as lonely as it gets, aside from the dry lakebeds (too dangerous, at least with the more mutants mod)

I'm on PS3 here the computer is capable if ultra settings but it's the family computerand I rarely get access :/

Up to now I have leather armour, .357, dynamite and the desperado cowboy hat. Tagged skills are guns, repair and explosives. I'm going to wander from town to town helping them and killing all bandits across the way. I'll be like a neutral-good who doesn't talk much or ask questions. I'll not do any quests for the factions apart from goodsprings.

I like your build.

For about 90% of the game you will be fine with Reinforced Leather Armor (DT 10) and your Varmint Rifle / .357 Magnum / Cowboy Repeater. Not only will these do the job but they are economical. RLA is repaired with normal leather armor so its innexpensive to maintain. Likewise the VR/357 guns are innexpensive, and you find a fair number of them as loot, making many repairs free.

If you take the Highway 93 north from Novac, a suit of RLA will come to you  You might even find one earlier, one time I got a suit from a raider near Mojave Outpost but that was probably just good luck. Come to think of it, that was my standard sniper build starting with 9 luck so maybe that was why

There are a variety of better weapons and armors than these, and you would want to have some for set piece battles or if you plan to hunt Deathclaws and such. Most of these items can be found for free throughout the wasteland as loot, or else bought at The Gun Runners up near New Vegas.

The next tier of cowboy weapons after the .357 line are the .44 Magnums (Revolver and Trail Carbine), and last of all the .45-70 Gov't guns (Hunting Revolver and Brush Gun). The Gun Runners also sell some Combat Armors or you can find it in the wasteland, always nice to have in storage for a rainy day.

One other thing of note, for your character I highly recommend getting Cass from Mojave Outpost as your companion, and Rex the dog from The King in Freeside. That's like the perfect cowboy companion package, a red haired cowgirl and a dog.

One poster mentioned Lucky. That's a unique version of the .357 Magnum. It's one of the best guns in the game, period, because it is very accurate and also has a high critical chance. There are many unique versions of stock weapons in the game, each one better than the stock version, but overall you're not going to go wrong with the stock versions.

Cheers for the reply. The spot you mentioned for RLA is the one I always use. It's at the el dorado gas station :) Ive had lucky before but never used it. Once I get 75 lock pick I'll get it :D

For a cowboy I think that Daniel's Hate and one of the Courier Dusters are perfect. Not traditional cowboy, more like post-apoc cowboy.

I was wondering if people could suggest armour and weapons that I could use and where I could base out of.

Armor: Daniel's Hat, Bounty Hunter Duster, Courier Duster, Desert Ranger Combat Armor, Lucky Shades, Authority Glasses, any http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ranger_outfit

Weapons: Lucky, .44 Magnum, Trail Carbine (with scope), Brush Gun, La Longue Carabine, Fully modded Cowboy Reapeter, Lever-Action Shotgun, Combat Knife, Hatchet, Throwing Hatchets

*If you want to be a futuristic/Fallout style Ranger, then I would suggest adding a Plasma Defender, Laser Rifle, Holorifle, Q-35, 25mm Grenade APW, Frag Grenades, Flash Bangs, Plasma Grenades, any mines, Fire Ax, and the Fist of Rawr to your arsenal.

Bases: I would recommend multiple safe houses scattered around the Mojave. Wolfhorn Ranch, Harper's Shack, Bradley's Shack, Field's Shack, Goodsprings, Boulder City and Scavenger's Platform are all good examples.

Here is my full list: (Many of these are for storage purposes only)
Spoiler

Jean Skydiving
Searchlight Home
