Are the characters in a novel the extension of the every author?
Are the characters in a novel the extension of the every author?
Not extensions, but rather products in that case
That's the same way I view these game and my interaction with them. I try to allow as much of the character's skill to be used as much as possible. I'm pushing the button to make them say and do things the same way a writer puts the ink to the paper. At that point, it becomes it's own entity.
I see...
After considering that, your point is more logical...
I always thought the PC as a vessel of my will, the proxy of my decision. I guess, after seeing your point, they do are their own entities...
You opened a new viewpoint for me! I thank you. ^^
You're quite welcome, my friend but it's the distinguished members of the Oblivion and FONV forums that need thanked. I joined the forums looking for new inspirations towards replay viability. I found more than I'd hope for and it changed the way I will play these games forever.
She'll be a young, charismatic housewife. Haven't figured out her name yet but I'm thinking Catherine, Ann, Sarah, or Katelyn. She was born to a middle-class family in Indiana to a loving mother but it didn't take too long before her father ran off and disappeared to God knows where. Her mother was a theatre and acting enthusiast and imparted this to her daughter. She had dreams of running away to Hollywood when she was older and becoming a big actress. She just wanted to make her mother proud. High school was a strange time for her. She did good in school and was a sweet girl but people still were nervous around her. Due to her acting skills she had a way with words and had no trouble convincing teachers to bump her grade up from a C+ all the way to an A-. Her daddy would've been so proud. He was a litigator. Those were the scariest types of lawyers. At least that's what her mom said.
Throughout most of high school she convinced boys to do things for her or give her things like money, car rides, and clothes, anything a teenage girl could want. She had no trouble making boys do what she wanted. That was until she met James. James had a power over her no other man did. She couldn't resist him and her attempts to use him for money ended in brutal failure. He saw right through her scheme but sort of just laughed it off. He liked her as well, but he knew she had a reputation for using people. Finally she gave in and confessed her true feelings towards him. He decided that he couldn't just wait to see if she was the one. They began dating and when they graduated high school he proposed in her mother's backyard, with all of their friends and family present. James was a military brat and decided he was going to follow in his father's footsteps and join the military. She stayed with her mother until he came back, already a captain. They had enough money to buy a house out in the suburbs and James had always liked Boston so that's where they went. Now, James wasn't an inherently bad man but let's just say this couple had different view points on several things. My character has always been an outspoken feminist, a characteristic James had never liked. When she expressed her anger at James for not being able to go to Hollywood they lashed out at each other and didn't speak for several weeks. He thought that her place was a homemaker, not some Hollywood starlet. They disagreed. In the tradition of couples falling back in love, they had a baby. James got a job as a road construction worker and things seemed at ease. A few months and a baby delivery later, there was a Veteran's Ball. James didn't want to go but she insisted. She had bought a lovely blue dress for the occasion and he wrote a speech. Finally it was the day of the Ball. Things were going perfect. A Vault-Tec worker had stopped by and confirmed their acceptance into Vault 111. James thought the Vaults were a stupid idea but she insisted that they were for the world's safety. They were just preparing to leave for the Ball when the breaking news about the bombs dropping broadcasted onto their TV. The sirens began to go off and our young heroine rushed back into the nursery. She grabbed her family and rushed towards Vault 111. She and her family were lowered in just in time. They were safe in the Vault for the time-being. However, something transpired in there. Something she doesn't remember, or if she does, they're repressed memories. When she woke up 200 years later, she was in a cryogenic chamber surrounded by corpses. None of them were her families. She searched through the Vault for days looking for any sign of her family. She only saw dead bodies, none of which belonged to James or Shaun. James had a gold tooth and well... there weren't any remains of newborns. She left Vault 111 in search of her family. She'll do anything to find them or answers about what happened to them. Out in the wasteland she isn't one to avoid violence, learning from James that self-defense is one of the most important things on the planet. She'll use her Charisma to her defense and if the Black Widow perk is included in the game I definitely plan on giving that to her.
tl;dr she's a charming housewife searching for husband and newborn.
((I realize she's a bit of a Mary-Sue but ˉ\_(ツ)_/ˉ))
EDIT: Included tl;dr
I'll play as a Commander Shepard ripoff with no personality whatsoever who communicates through an awful vo actor.
Moral code: Gray. Utilitarian big picture. Its fine that a thousand die if it means a better future for the rest of mankind.
Technocrat: The advancement of science is the most important thing. Unrestrained by moral codes which hinders progress.
SPECIAL: High Intelligence, High Perception. Low Strength, Low Endurance.
Combat: Servants / companions (expendable) front. Supporting them with energy based sniper from the back.
I basically want to roleplay a combination / Hybrid of G-Man from HL, Mr. House from New Vegas and Frank Horrigan from the Enclave in Fallout 2. A government black-ops special agent focused on science and progress with little to regard for the lives of the little people. Immoral and pragmatic.
Edit: Come to think of it, the Institute is probably right up my alley!
Given the PC's military background I'll probably develop mine into a http://static-8.nexusmods.com/15/images/130/4325763-1385464749.jpg type figure.
My first character amply named after me, "Sam".
A paragon of the waste's, helping were he can, and whenever he can. Always choosing the morally right thing to do in every situation, but believes that you need to be a hardened individual in the apocalypse to get by. Killing raider's and people generally deemed as "scum" trying to hurt other's for pleasure, profit, or in the way of good people trying to get by, but never step's over the moral boundary (I.E. torture, leaving for dead, refusing a surrender). Rebuilding his home and surrounding settlement to achieve a utopian-esque scene where people can live together almost free of wastland worries. Good with a wrench, smooth-talking, and better with a rifle, he look's forward for everyone around, and hopes for a brighter future. "War never change's, but it doesn't mean peace is impossible."
My second character, "Mercer", is where thing's get interesting...
People flee in fear of him, of what he is, of what he is capable of. Far more psychopathic and murderous than any one person in the wasteland, and beyond depraved in his dealing's. A narcissistic, sociopathic, megalomaniac, running wild. Being stuck in cryo-statis left his psyche fragile and easily corruptible. Seeing that his wife and new born son had not survived the process, caused an irreversible shift in personality and demeanor. Now, a mad man, with nothing to lose, he exit's vault 111, seeking war, and advancing his own hubris. "War never change's, but men do."
I might post more of the character's i have thought of (there's like 4 so far) reply's are welcome!
First Character will be named Evan, (Nickname is Gov. Bean) His specialties/preferences are Guns, building/repairing in general, and Stealth.

Signature Weapons: Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, .44 Magnum revolver, and various Melee weapons.
Evan is a Charismatic, but quite amoral Character. He is happy to help so long as it benefits him in the long run, but stand in his way, or push him past his limit, and he can be a wastelanders worst nightmare. He will live in a rural, low population area, Perhaps along the coast, in a house he built himself. Next to it is His Armoury/weapon store, where he stockpiles and makes piles and tons of weapons to collect and sell. This small hobby turns into a full fledged buisness. Eventually a very successful one, which goes to his head: After becoming so prosperous, he wanted more and more power, resources, and wealth. This pursuit goes better than he had hoped.. Perhaps too well!
Second Character will be Female, named Dahlia. Her story will be that the Crygenic process had something go wrong, altering her Mental stability, and turning her into a murderous psychopath.

She is still very inteligent and sociable, Manipulating and lying her way through the wasteland. With the loss of her family and the damage done by the Cryogenics, She formed a complex in which she believed she was destined to be the sole survivor of the commonwealth. That Every other person was to be exterminated once they outlived their use. She was careful about it though. Killing only when she knew she could get away with it. Maintaining her image of Helpful and cheery pre-war survivor. Slowly but surely she would prey on settlement after settlement, faction after faction. Talk of the "Shadow of Boston" grew in the wasteland, But no one suspected that the cheery helpful Gal offering to help in any way she can, was actually cooking up the plans for their untimely deaths. (yes this is a stealth Kill-everything playthrough)
And third, once I finish or get stuck on the Kill everything playthrough; I want to create Sterling Archer, and Lana. Sterling being the PC, with High Charisma, perception, Luck, and low intelligence.
My first character will probably be me. The second... We'll see ;D
I haven't really decided yet on my first playthrough, but on my second it's probaly going to be the continuation of my mashed up story of MGS in the world of Fallout from what I came up with in FO3.
And third, once I finish or get stuck on the Kill everything playthrough; I want to create Sterling Archer, and Lana. Sterling being the PC, with High Charisma, perception, Luck, and low intelligence.
Good idea. I wanted my pc to be named archer. Think I might make one where I role-play as Lee from the walking dead and Carley as his wife(she'll know how to handle a gun) plus the wife already looks like carley, so just gotta slant her eyes. Hopefully there'll be a hatchet Lee can use
My main play through will be a pre-war conservative andalesque cannibal who hates commies.(if dialogue options allow that)
It is still a tossup Between Sterling or Billy Mays... Though I'm sure I'll think of some other fun characters to make once I get my hands on the player model customization.
*If* I actually buy the game - I'm going to wait and see until I know more about it (I like the idea of playing an "ex-housewife", but I want to be able to make different characters after that!!!) - my first character is probably going to be as follows:
I explore the story and the world, then at level 15 or so I realize I've screwed up the roleplay and her personality and quests are all over the place, so I delete her and start another, and this time it works better because I know the game.
That's usually what happens when I play a new game.
I'm going with the idea that the wife is some sort of criminal while I roleplay as an undercover investigator who wins her heart and accidentally starting a family while attempting to find the proof of her being a criminal... Then Fallout 4 happens.
I'm going with the idea of not being a very strong fellow but rather intelligent, great precision, and average charisma skills. So he would know how to use some guns and is very intelligent, and able to talk out of certain situations (thinking about having him train his charisma and precision skills while in the wasteland, mind you).
Well. At least so far, that's what I got. I'm waiting for more info about the game before really making it complex.
My first is usually as per what the story wants me to be, my second would be the opposite gender and alignment extreme, so I only start to free-flow roleplay on my third, which I probably, right now, want to be a crazy raider.
Hahaha, this. That's usually what happens to my first character, who I usually try to make some sort of good guy who isn't afraid to do bad things for good purposes. Kind of a cynical anti-hero.
But he always ends up extremely messed up, and then I try to roleplay something a bit more rigid and consistent for the next playthrough.
Eventually i'll try a character with

I: 1

it won't be pretty
I won't know what sort of character I'll be playing until I'm going through the tutorial, then I'll go with what vibe I get from it. With FO3, my Wanderer was smart and persuasive, mostly the helping out type with the occasional bout of sassmouth who had to relearn who she really was after the insanity of the Vault. In NV, my Courier was a jaded and slightly bitter cannibal who hit her fed up point with getting shot on the job and just wanted all the bs to stop and if that meant chucking out all the major powers and taking over, so be it.
So, with that said, other than choosing the female option, that's about all I have in mind for now.
