Roleplayers- interesting option confirmed via twitter

Post » Sat Feb 15, 2014 1:01 pm

"Roleplayers will be able to set preferences when logging into the megaserver that will group them with other roleplayers."

Sauce: https://twitter.com/TESOnline/status/433719848426668033

Not sure how this will be implemented, but it's great to see they are thinking ahead for the needs of RP'ers in a massive game world!

That almost seems like they're going to have certain phases set for roleplay. If so... woohoo!

Good Good, They said they would do that when they 1st talk about ESO, but we had no word of it since. Good to see it is still there.

It would be nice to be able to vote for how good a RPer some is. Otherwise Kevin aged 12 will have a great laugh ticking his RolePlayer LFG icon and then acting like a 9 year old

Indeed they did. I have been in a couple of discussions about this still being the flight plan. I'm very pleased to see it is still in play.

He should be playing the game to start with -- it is rated "M" now. I know they still be some underage in the game, but I still hope act more mature then their real age is. There is always the report button....

This was actually a known feature from the start, whereby you could set preferences before logging in and it would place in with others who also picked the same preferences. Rumor has it that feature was removed for some reason. Nice to hear it made it back in in some form.

Yeah I remember reading about them getting rid of that preference survey and couldn't imagine why they did it.

With a more mature community and a greater chance of being in a world with characters using lore-appropriate names, I think my main is gonna end up doing this, whether I feel like RPing all the time or not.

OK...Im an older gamer & have played for quite a while with varying tastes in games, but something has me every so slightly confuddled.

Isn;t the PVE aspect all roleplaying?

And isn't the game focused on PVE in the normal areas to begin with?

Sooo......what gives. Is there a more specific definition of "roleplaying" in this game?

Or is this idea steming from the ability to set yourself among people who choose to focus on dungeons etc?

Not everyone who plays the game will want to RP "in-character" in chat channels. Simply put, they may just spam chat with non-RP pvssyr which can be disruptive to those who want to remain in character. This gives the RP'ers an avenue to minimize that kind of distraction while also protecting themselves from abuse. Unfortunately, in an MMO many times roleplayers are mocked or intentionally disrupted by those who think roleplaying is dumb. This reduces the opportunities of that happening, while also opening up the avenue to finding likeminded players to group with.

This is great news, I had a good time roleplaying in beta (it involved a lot shoveling and music playing). =)

ahh..ok. Im still unsure as how this is going to work with chat etc.

I consider myself a PVE gamer (roleplayer to a point), but I would use chat normally, joke about, ask questions/ give answers etc.

But I don't think Im going to "act" in character on the chat channel, if thats how far this is going to go.

In saying that....who here is going to go to extremes?

Hands up who is going to dress up as their character to play the game? :P

Roleplaying refers to the practice of acting as if your avatar were the character in a story. They have personalities, motivations, and histories different from that of the player behind the keyboard/gamepad, and the player makes choices based on what that fictional character would do, not necessarily what the player would do. Roleplayers do not acknowledge that they are people playing a video game. They pretend theiy are their character, living in another world entirely.

Teenage WoW comparison talk springs to mind, it's most off-putting.

I guess I can still refer to being a PVP'er then, considering I am always aware that I am playing a character thats following a storyline.

TBH Im not is sure how much ESO will/is catering to the roleplayers out there, but from what I have seen its catering brilliantly to PVE.

And on a side note, also catering brilliantly for PVP to my tastes.
