This seems to be the thread to post RP ideas, so here it goes.

I once had an idea for an RP in which the Daedric Lord Vaermina, master of dreams and nightmares, decided it would be amusing to take several people from around the world into an alternate version of Cyrodiil in their dreams. They'd fall asleep, and "wake up" again inside of this dream world, where Vaermina tells them what he/she (I always get confused on some of the daedric lords' genders) has done. They must face challenges along the way, often involving inner conflicts personified, and should they survive their trials, they will wake with a gift from Vaermina, gifts would vary between people and usually wouldn't be something physical like a weapon, but it could happen.

However, if the person does not survive the trials inside the dream world, their body in the real world will slip into a coma and die, and their souls will be forever lost in Vaermina's plane of Oblivion. Vaermina will try to kill you, but if you are clever, skilled, or lucky enough, you will survive.

This is only a basic outline of the story, and characters would be able to form groups or to brave the world alone. This is a good RP for anyone with characters that are a little crazy, but sane characters will be just as fine. I posted a similar RP to this one when I was last on the forums, but it died due to lack of posting. With this thread, I'm hoping to change that. So? how about it? If I were to post this on the board, would I be able to expect a decent turnout of posters? Or am I wasting my time?

That idea sounds very interesting ^_^ I'd join it if you decide to make it.

Well there's one who'll do it! If I get at least two more, I'll start it. You may want to start drafting your CS, Trannigan! :P.

It sounds like something that hasn't been done, at least in my time. Though I can't join because of time, good luck with it. Impressive idea there.

Glass Argonian's idea sounds really interesting. If you get that up, I'll definitely try and find time to join, if you'll have me. :)

I'd have to join as well, Glass Argonian.

Your idea sort of inspired me (the part about surviving and getting a favor from the Daedric Lord).

What if someone made a group of RPs, where the characters do a quest, like regular, but change in some way at the end (i.e. new weapon, personality change, armor, something fundamental like that). Then instead of leaving it at that, the person would make a new RP with (hopefully) the same characters, but they would have the changes from the previous RP... sort of like a linear progression type thing, with the characters sticking together because they know each other.

Hell, it wouldn't even have to be the same host; different people could host different RPs, and if two characters that were being used were in a previous RP together, they could talk about that as a past adventure, you know?

Hope that makes sense in the way I put it...

Well that's what the timeline is. Characters from the timeline know each other from the past and keep the changes.

Well that makes my minimum of promised RPers! I'll get to work on it right away, there are some details that need re-fleshing out. Those of you who plan on joining, it will be up tonight, so get your CSs ready and go ahead and PM them to me.

An excellent Idea! I'm up for it, if anyone else is. Also the character timeline idea is good too. We should flesh this idea out so we can get it working when Vaermina's trial is done.

I remember seeing an RP based around that concept back when I was a regular around here! :celebration:

Can't remember much, other than a trippy pirate ship. I remember FC4 was in it as well - I think.

I wasn't a part at the time.

That was from Ald Nerevar: the RP that gave me the whole idea. Vaermina's dream world was briefly featured before the host had to leave the RP. I had a few ideas on how to make it a full-fledged RP, ran it by him, and he said that it was awesome and to go right ahead and do it, and well, there we were, and are again. I had to eat, but I'll get to work on posting it so people can join in.

Ah... so FC4's character was the orc warrior that demonstrated the Orsimer's emphasis on armorsmithing and repair. I just remember the context of that character had nothing to do with Vaermina's dream.

I'm not sure I have any characters that are suitably conflicted. (Not to say I don't have conflicted characters... but the nature of their inner turmoil is not suitable for these boards. At least not without going very, very abstract.)

Trust me, it will get pretty abstract, and if you have to, creating a character with issues isn't hard. I've made several, after all :P

All right! the RP is posted, and all I need is for some people to send in their sheets, and we can get started!

Not sure if I really have interest. My truly original character (A khajiit exotic-dancer turned Arena Combatant) is really not appropriate for anything that tries probing the dark recesses of his mind.

I guess I could play a Breton (Who's name most definitely isn't Gordon Freeman) devoted to studying Mysticism, doing research in the depths of an Ayleid ruin (And certainly not studying Anomalous Materials in lab at the Black Mesa Research Complex) when Vaermina rejects his reality and substitutes her own.

Or I could play his more boring brother (Assuredly, his name is not John Freeman), who struggles with his inability to match his older brother's reputation, and is very concerned for the well-being of his brother, wife, son (Not named Henry Freeman, before you ask), and mother as Harvest's End approaches.

So, do I hope to re-enact Half-Life, or Half-Life: Full Life Consequences in the Nightmare RP?

The whole Vaermina's Dreamworld made me think of Silent Hill, how all the monsters are figments of the psyche of the various characters brought to life, unfortunately the majority of the Silent Hill monsters have some sort of sixual undertone to them so yea.. that might not work very well :P

The reason Silent Hill's monsters don't work out is the same reason I wouldn't be able to play my original character idea for the RP.

I miss serial RPs on this forum. We used to do a lot of them a while back. That's kinda one of my goals with the Expedition series that I've "story boarded".

Serial Rp's? What's that?

Oh and those this mean the Valenwood Hunting RP is scrapped for the Vaermina dream/nightmare RP?

I don't think it is, both could always be done. The hunting RP still catch my interest.

If I can find a way to re-enact some Half-Life-esque scenarios in the nightmare, rest assured that I will. Also, John Freeman seems to have some rather easy issues to work with where nightmares are concerned. I'd recommend using him, or creating a whole new character if you wish.

A "serial RP" is a much shorter way of saying "a bunch of RPs that have different story lines but still occur in a certain chronological order in relation to one another." basically, a series of RPs that has recurring characters from previous installments.

And I didn't know about the Hunting RP, sorry if I ruined something for you guys... :sadvaultboy:

Depending on how much crap I have to get done, I might be able to come up with something for "Trials by Nightmare" later today... maybe not.

I sort of would like to do the Hunt RP still, but I dunno. Keeping up with one is a task sometimes.
