With the bashed patch your ROM mods are out of order (especially if you imported the tags from OOO and MMM as these would overwrite ROM since the bashed patch loads after ROM. Take a look at myk's post on page one of this thread for bashing instructions. That could be the problem. You will have to hand order ROM mods unless you use BOMM after you make the changes.

Or an easy way, put the ROM files AFTER the bashed patch and see if that fixes the problem.

I followed the instructions above, but there were only deleted/duplicate records in the MMM plugin. I don't know if that's because I have different versions of OOO/MMM or because the ROM 2.30 plugins were already cleaned, or what. So the only changes to the main ROM plugin and the Knights plugin were to add masters, but that was enough to make the game throw tantrums when I tried to load the modified ROM plugin as myk mentioned. I removed OOO.esp from the masters list and it loads fine now.

What happens if I buy training for a minor skill while it's under the cap? If the cap is 25 and I buy 5 training sessions, will I then be able to raise the skill through normal use to 30, or just 25?

yeah, 2.30 includes the pre-cleaned plugins. I'll update the instructions. I'm also working on getting it into a BAIN package format for easier management with Wrye Bash.

hey Underground09, quick question: what happens if ROMAdditionalRaces.ini exists in Data/ini but the player is playing a vanilla race? will the settings in this file override the defaults?

Also, what happens if the ini file exists, but all the lines are commented out?

I looked at the script. The answer is 25, so there's an incentive to only train major skills, which is unfortunate.

The INI file is only loaded if you're playing a non-default race. If you are, and the file is missing you'll get an error. If the file is present but the lines are left commented out, constitution and spirit will be zero and bad things will happen.

Never a waste of time. I am surprised by the low number of posters though. Either there are no problems or few are playing this mod. Shame. I have not seen Underground either, I think he wants to fix that magic extender issue. Hopefullly after that he will be available for more support.

I haven't finished anolyzing the new version of that one yet, so I didn't put in a recommendation.

This is good news. It simplifies the deployment. I'll just make sure the ini is always there, then.

I've had some strange issues. The Fingers of the Mountain quest was broken, as I posted about http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1129390-chorral-recommendation-stalled/. While I was trying to figure that out I noticed I had a Torch02Light in my inventory, named <> or something. I found a StaffLightOrcishOOO in a chest, with a name of ---. The one goblin shaman I've seen so far seemed to repeatedly summon and attack a zombie until it noticed me, at which point it summoned a new zombie and behaved normally toward it.

It would be nice if you incorporated some sort of delayed start for KotN with your changes, similar to SM Plugin refurbish.

I was just going to say that. I did not master OOO.esp to ROM because, in my game also, I had weird problems emerge. From what Myk says, it seems advisable is using it in a bashed patch, but the fact that it did not work right for you is something I cannot really speak with much authority on. But I am glad that the default version is working for you.

If you are not using a custom race, nothing will happen--even if you have the ini file loaded. You don't even need to comment out any lines for that file. As for the other files, commented-out lines do nothing, and so the file is harmless (if unnecessary) if left in your Ini folder. My batch scripts are very, very safe on your game.

Actually, I have some news: it seems I might be traveling abroad for my work soon, and I will be unable to access my work. I don't even expect to have regular access to a computer at this point, but that might change. In the worst case scenario, at least mods are always open source to the community, so I would not forbid anyone expanding or doing with ROM what they please. I will keep you posted!

Just reporting that Skip Tutorial by Speedo seems to work fine with ROM, which is great because it beats the hell out of that ship mod IMO. It's just not available anywhere any more.

Edit: the two guards in the Elven Gardens District, in front of the gate to the market district, seem to want to stand on the same side of the gate. They continually walk into each other to get onto that spot. Also, there's a Rumors topic on Mages Guild NPCs that talks about being able to enchant your own items in the Arcane University. Maybe that should be disabled.

I have not had the two guard issue in my config, but have not tried v2.30 yet to see if that would introduce it. As for the rumor, you could always treat is as just that, a rumor :)

EDIT: I just tried with OOO 1.34beta5 and ROM 2.30 and did only see one guard at that gate. What time of day did this occur? Perhaps there is a chedule.

EDIT: I had two guards starting after 11:00pm until 2:00am or so but they were on either side of the door. At one point one guard went over to the other to talk then went back. There is one quard patrolling between the doors on either side of the Elven district.

May have been a fluke on your end. Can you reproduce the behavior?

I couldn't reproduce it, so maybe it was something to do with leveled lists for those guards? I dunno. When I checked, I noticed a couple IC guards strutting around barechested, carrying their cuirasses but not wearing them. Scandalous.

I've noticed that clothing versions of braided armor are available cheaply on several vendors, and they have the original script on them so they'll start the OOO quest and you can't wear them until it's been finished. Braided clothing doesn't make any sense unless you make it enchanted caster gear, and it shouldn't be on vendors in any case.

I found a redguard Anvil guard (formid 0200facb) with redguard face and greetings but voiced dialogue for female imperials. There's a chest in the Anvil chapel undercroft or living quarters (00034f51) that isn't locked but is tagged with an OOO script for hard or very hard chests. There's also a door in one of those chapel areas that isn't locked but is associated with the Anvil chapel key, so you get the message about unlocking it with that key.

I have noticed bare chested guards also in the IC but had TEI installed so I attributed it to that. However, in your LO that should not happen.

What if you do not use Wrye Bash and just load the mods in the order you have? It could be that is a problem and I do not think that Underground used Wrye Bash when he worked on the mod. So I think of a pure install is the mods only and no bashed patch.

So... if someone wouldn't mind reviewing my LO.

Things were running great - I then did this:

-upgrade Better Cities to latest
-upgrade Unique Landscapes to latest compilation
-follow myk002's directions for building ROM into the bashed patch.


Now... Oblivion will load, but attempting to load my most recent savegame results in a CTD during the first loading screen.

Hi all,

ROM is now integrated with BOSS and Wrye Bash, so no manual load ordering or tagging is required anymore.

The main ROM esp should still technically be remastered before bashing, but if this is too much trouble, don't worry about it too much. A few things will be lost, but not an egregious amount. It looks like a lot of records need to be "uninjected" before the remastered esp can be loaded by Oblivion, and with Underground09 away, it might be a long time before that gets done.

@jack.q.frost: as for your CTD problem, have you confirmed that ROM is at fault? Have you tried deselecting the ROM mods, rebuilding the bashed patch, and loading the game with ROM absent? If that does work, try saving a game without ROM, re-adding the ROM mod, and loading that save.

It looks like a lot of records need to be "uninjected" before the remastered esp can be loaded by Oblivion, and with Underground09 away, it might be a long time before that gets done.


Wow, that was good timing. Reinstalled Oblivion yesterday evening and ran through the starter dungeon with OOO and ROM. Then thought about Better Cities, realised that would need a Bashed Patch and read this thread about the difficulties of getting ROM/BOSS/Wrye Bash compatible. Gave up and went to bed instead. Now I wake up to find the problems more or less solved!

So, if i've got lastest BOSS list (well, from yesterday) WryeBash 287 and ROM 2.3 I can just use BOSS to sort the tags and load order the same way as most other mods. Is that correct?

Edit. No. BOSS did not recognise ROM based on yesterday's masterlist, but after updating the list it does (must have been updated last night). Also Wrye Bash 287 won't pick up the BOSS tags, updating to 290 solved the problem.

I've been playing since early 2007, and a mod user since late 2007, it's amazing how committed modders continue to push things on.

love the concepts behind ROM by the way. It looks set to add some spice to my default OOO install. (I tried TIE but found it too hardcoe for my limited gaming ability, I'm relatively old)

Completely off topic, but if you want to know hold i am, I was born just over a week after the farthing (a coin) was withdrawn from circulation in the UK. There were 960 farthings in a UK pound.

So... if someone wouldn't mind reviewing my LO.

Things were running great - I then did this:

-upgrade Better Cities to latest
-upgrade Unique Landscapes to latest compilation
-follow myk002's directions for building ROM into the bashed patch.


Now... Oblivion will load, but attempting to load my most recent savegame results in a CTD during the first loading screen.

Couple things that come to mind:

DId you do a clean save before upgrading Better Cities? That might be an issue. You can revert back to the older version that was in your save and see if tyhat fixes it.
UL should not have a problem but again, a clean save is always advisable. I usually coc testinghall before I upgrade.
For ROM, rememeber you need to put the original unclean ROM for Oblivion to load., not the cleaned one. Use the cleaned one only for building the bashed patch.

If all else fails try loading the save game without the bashed patch active, just to see if that will work.

I wonder if there is someone out there who can break ROM into modules. I can see a wider audience if one was able to take some of the features of ROM for their game. Like taking TNR from TIE. I think the magic system from ROM is very good and could fit in alot of games without the other changes, It seems more realistic than any other magic overhaul for the realism player. I think same could fo for combat.

I do not mean that ROM should be abandoned as a whole, far from it, I would like to see further development to have it fit with other overhauls, just looking at marketing aspect for more support :)

Underground said it was open for the community to modify, so it seems that would be OK.

S'Lider, I google it, and you are a tad older than me, so retirement is too far away to learn modding and do this ourselves :)
But if the retirement age in England is WAY earlier than the US, maybe you can think about it? :)

I ask becuase I DID make OOO.esp a master in Wrye Bash (as well as manually adding tags, which may have been a mistake), but now I have this strange glitch that WHENEVER I sleep I level up. (with no stats gain, just the level adjusts, and I assume the levelled lists). I can avoid sleeping if need be, but it makes me edgy what else has glitched

I have tried removing various files, and even substituting the mastered ROM with a non mastered ROM and then rebuilding the bashed patch, but it still happens, so I sort of figure it must have been set back in the starting dungeon

Advice appreciated

Has anyone have npc's dying without even being touched? This started to occur after i put rom in the bash patch. Not sure what mod is causing it though i figure rom is wasnt doing it before.
