Romantic partners?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 7:27 pm

Do you think Fallout 4 will include romantic interactions? Skyrim took a pretty cool step forward in introducing marriage as a system; it was a little silly, since all you had to do was wear an amulet and do someone a random favor to raise their disposition to marry them, but it was still really awesome that you could take a spouse in the first place, and even share their home.

I'm hoping Fallout 4 expands on it a bit more, and even does romance candidates in a similar way to how New Vegas handled companions; have a smaller amount of possible partners with fleshed out personalities that you have to do a moderately sized (and romantically oriented) quest for to earn their affections.

And karma should definitely be a huge factor in whether they accept you, or even stay with you. Nothing like getting dumped for blowing up a city, am I right? Of course, the option to get a new partner or even have multiple partners (who may or may not be cool with that) should be there.

If they do romance I hope they take from BioWare RPGs. I hated the way it worked in Skyrim. You just married some random person without knowing anything about or them about you other than you did favor "X" for them. I just got married in SKyrim for the gold.

Can imagine having multiple slave partners who are forced to like the bigamy.

Or having one partner who will follow you everywhere as long as you are a paragon of modern society.

But, alas, they are not necessary for a game.

I have nothing against six, or marriage, or "romantic" things in game.

I just prefer games not have them because they are ALWAYS done so terribly. It's always do some stuff -> talk to them -> do more stuff -> talk again - repeat 4 more times -> six ->end point of relationship building.

And I can understand that in a way, because real relationships are so [censored] complex its impossible to do in a game. I don't mind prosttutes in-game, because there's ZERO emotional attachment implied there.

I would prefer they NOT do what NV with those god-awful six moans during the fade-to-black screens. Whoever thought that would be a good idea should be shot, repeatedly.

It's not something I'd do but I think if they fleshed it out like Obsidian did with New Vegas' companion quests or like how Bioware handled it then it could add quite a bit to the game. I'd imagine partners roaming the wastes together looking out for each other. Plus, it would add to ability of role playing.

I certainly hope this is an option. And I'd prefer a decent selection of partners with their own unique personalities rather than a "marry nearly anyone" system.

Yeah, Skyrim's marriage system was really tacked on. I wouldn't mind they take a few hints from Bioware's romance, except for maybe accidentally picking romantic dialogue or having cringeworthy six scenes.

Honestly, if there's six at all I'd rather it just stay a "fade to black" sequence with no audio. Anything more is just kinda pointless.

Yes, and instead of amulets we will wear slave collars this time. Fitting.

probably, given their last two games did. im not really interested in that gameplay aspect though. maybe if there was some sort of depth to it other than just random dialog until you get a six option and the screen turns black.

I don't even need a six scene or moaning to be honest( I find the moaning akward in NV and in the GTA games).

Well, I'm not just talking about getting six in return. In Skyrim, marriage gave you a spouse that would open up their own shop and share the profits, let you live in their home, and naturally the "Lover's Comfort" perk from resting with them. They even let you adopt children in Hearthfire and start a family; that was awesome.

I could see slowly developing relationships ala Dovahkin/ Serana working, but hopefully not that marriage in a can setup from Skyrim. I'm hoping we see fewer companions available, but more definitive interactivity, with them having their own stories and things they need to leave and do from time to time. Letting them randomly alter their own wardrobe would go a long way to creating a true sense of them being a separate AI as well.

Bethesda's strong suit is not in writing dialogue so I doubt they could handle romance.

It'd be for the better if they avoided that and stick to flirtation and one night stands as they're not as complex and don't require the same pacing that proper romance does.

Keep in mind Todd Howard straight up said that he wants to improve on character interactions going forward from Skyrim. They know their dialog needs work and they want to work on it. I guess only time will tell.

I would really enjoy a relationship so long as it's done right. I thought the Red Lucy was a good encounter for just a sixual encounter, and I'd hope they might learn a little bit from the Witcher romance stuff if they decide to incorporate it.

It shouldn't be done in any way like Skyrim's though and if that is their intention then I would rather they not bother.

So what, you want cards with naked women on them?

Was that mentioned in my post? I didn't realize the romance in Witcher series was romancing a card with naked pictures on them. It's not like it's a book series with three games or anything :twirl:

I own it, but I couldn't get through the beginning. I was able to get through Witcher 2 and Witcher 3 though. Again, it's a series of three games and it's an entire book series as well. I'm not sure how the romance aspect of the game somehow entails that I want cards with naked women? six scenes in general are pretty tasteless in video games so.. I'm not sure where you're coming from I'm afraid

The joke is, Witcher 1 gives you cards with naked women for it's numerous "romances" (because somehow the women of this world find that fish-eyed oaf attractive).
