romantic relationship

I would like it, but I don't think Betheda could do it. They just don't have that high enough caliber writing for it in my opinion. On the opposite side I won't be disappointed if it isn't in.

... closest thing to a romantic relationship in Skyrim should be the relationship between the player and wenches serving the mead in the Feast Hall.

Yes, well, it certainly doesn't take a genius to figure out where that relationship goes... :hubbahubba:

But I'm a female who plays strictly female characters, and I'm not interested in the wenches in the tavern... Can I flirt with the bartender, perhaps? Or use my feminine wiles to get out of trouble with the guards...? ;)

No thanks.

I've never liked romance in RPG's; they just seem to slow down the story and action for me

no, and every romance done so far has been nothing more than a complete and utter joke for any game out there.

At least with The Witcher it seemed to have acknowledged that it was extremely cheesy. Most others try, but it ultimately fails really hard or it is taken so far, it's just flat out embarrassing.

If a romance could be implemented properly into the story. Then yeah, I don't think it would be to bad of an Idea. But while Playing Morrowind or Oblivion being in a relationship never actually crossed my mind because of all the other things that were going on, or that could be accomplished.

Why not make a mod that includes a NPC of the opposite six being apointed to you as a partner to get you around the world and help you, with a deep dialogue and interaction basics. This relationship could grow and then evolve into sonething more when Alduin Dies

Yes, this could be kinda cool, if done correctly. I mean, some of us want our computerized characters to not be so lonely... :(

But I'm still all for having the option to get out of trouble by appealing to the guards with the option to flirt, or something. That could be pretty cool, especially if you had to have your speechcraft skills up for it to work, and some guards would be less likely to fall for it, etc. Am I making any sense? :twirl:

If I want story I play The Longest Journey or read a fantasy novel
If I want combat I play Dark Messiah
If I want to read books I go to the library
If I want to explore dungeons I go join a speleology or archaeology camp
If I want to do cooking, blacksmithing, fishing or whatever is new in Skyrim I go practice them in the countryside

So because you can't have a relationship in real life. You want it in a video game. Sorry to say, but romances really take me out of a game.

maybe your character doesnt need a real relationship but the interactions between others in oblivion were very dull

it seemed like all of the NPC's in oblivion were single

the only real time i remember seeing any type of love in a relationship was with corvus umbranox( the gray fox) and millona umbranox in Anvil

I don't see any problem with the addition of optional romance. Of course this is something the player should seek in order to obtain, regardless it is in a menu or in game. being forced to romancing in order to advance in a quest thoug, would be something totally undesirable.

So because you can't have a relationship in real life.

That's a simplistic generalization :nono:
I do have romance in everyday life, I want it in games because it's one of the most basic and natural things and I think it may improve MY bonding with MY character, via common sense representations (the same with accomplishment, heroism, treachery, aggressivity, bettering, curiosity, things that already are there to help me link my virtual ego to my Tes characters). I know what romance could add for some roleplayers, I don't see what it could subtract for others as long as it's optional. Even in the Bioware games that are heavily centered around relationships it's not like you have to [censored] someone.

... you could also get an in-game sugar-daddy who'll buy you armor, weapons, potions, etc.... or go into the inns, flirt with 2 guys, and start a fight... or if you are facing an enemy tougher than you, play the damsel in distress until you can get close enough and stab him in the back.... hey, the possibilities are endless :)

I am saying all of this half-joking and half-serious... rather than "romance", having the ability to play a femme fatale would bring something interesting to gameplay.

You are one in a million. It was a mix of rage and trying to fish out good arguments for relationships.
I'm an roleplayer sure, BUT the romance will have to play out the way Bethesda writes it, I don't want to make my character go out of character to get into a relationship.
Its also an excuse to add six and other Fable-ish stupidity.

I'm all for it, if its done right.

I'd like romance options in dialogue. If one doesn't want romance, simply don't use those options, it makes sense... same thing like fast travel.
I'd use it for some of my characters. People say this is a game about killing dragons...wrong! This is a game about whatever I want to roleplay... that's what svcked me into TES more than other linear RPGs. When I play a warrior I'll go to war and kill the dragons, when I play a bard or a charismatic thief I want to have options to charm the beautiful ladies... something more or less similar to Geralt of Rivia.

Why does it have to be complicated? If I charm someone enough and their unattached why can't they just address me as love or my dear. That little bit would satisfy me.

Or someone who has a crush on me would be nice, like Bittercup from FO3.

Though the ability to take someone to bed would be welcomed. My main character is always a reflection of myself, and I like to get around, so why can't my character.

Well said. There does seem to be a bit of an element of "*I* don't like it so nobody else should have it either. Even if it's optional." going on in this thread. Then again, the same thing happened even with something as trivial as fast travel in Oblivion, where "so don't use it, then" seemed to fall on deaf ears.

Edit: typo. Again. Sigh.

Do I want romance in RPG's? Yes. Bioware does it well and I greatly enjoy this feature in their games.
Do I want romance in TES? Maybe  I say maybe because, unlike BioWare or Obsidian, Bethesda is not that good at making memorable characters with good dialogue. Romance and relationships are heavily dependant on dialogue writing and if it svcks it ruins the 'immersion' and 'roleplaying'.

This feature would add more life to the feel of live in another world like you would have wanted it to be.
"Live life in another world"
thats kinda what the TES is based opon i think romance could be a good addition to make the game more lifelike.
NPC's already enjoy this feature in Oblivion.

Why only the opposite six...
And it would need to be either in game or an add on for Xbox 360 and PS3 :P

Romantic relationships? Meh.
Deeper characters in general, yes please. Kind of like the Knights of the Nine was. I like party based RPGs :P
