Hi guys, relatively new poster here.
I've been reading the Rps that have been getting posted on here and really enjoying them. But something is confusing me about how they work. Could someone please explain the mechanics of them to me please? I've played a couple of table top rpg games that are story driven and gm'ed acouple of times too. But I don't know if they would be relavent here.
I'm sure that this is a question that should't need to be asked, but if i don't ask then i won't find out.

RP= In character story telling.

Here? Relevance to the FO universe is expected.

So someone posts part of the story in character, then someone else picks up where they left off?

It's like this. One person posts in character and the other responds. For example...

Player One: Bob ran to the Deathclaw sanctuary, trying to escape the raiders, not knowing the horrors of the place.
Player Two: As Billy saw Bob running into the Deathclaw sanctuary, he wanted to yell, "STOP!" but knew that if he did, the raiders would kill him.

So the players choose their response to the first persons post. It keeps going. Remember to read the RP rules too because in some RP forums a huge change in story isn't allowed while in other RP forums it's allowed. But a good rule of thumb is TO NEVER GOD MODE.

What is god mode in RP you ask? Well it's when one character is so powerful that it's overpowered. For example...

Player One: Bob shot Billy in the leg
Player Two: Billy dodged the shot and began his attack on Bob.

See, you can't dodge a bullet when it's already fired. If say it was a sniper who the person preemptively saw, then that would be tolerable. So god mode is not allowed.

Here are a couple good rules to follow in any RP.

Rule One: No God Mode. I just gone over that.
Rule Two: Make sure that your character is believable and seems like it's integrated into the RP story. So if the story is about a gritty town where raiders constantly attack, then I highly doubt your character would be a posh high princess or something.
Rule Three: Don't control other people's characters. That's an obvious one, although it makes battles go slower, it's better. There are some exceptions like moving another player's character's unconscious body to another location or if the author of the character gives you permission.
Rule Four: No drastic story change. Unless a majority of the players voted to it, don't change the story so much. Like if the story is New York City(an actual RP that's ongoing that I belong to), don't detonate a nuclear bomb. Minor changes are okay and sometimes welcome. Such as a surprise raider attack to keep the action going.
Rule Five: GRAMMAR/SPELLING. Keep your grammar and spelling in check before you post. It saves a billion headaches and the players will love you for it.
