Rotten Food

Post » Sat Jan 22, 2011 11:29 pm

Good Morning Kids,

I think it would really add to the immersion if food would go bad if it is not kept in proper condition. Creating a 'shelf life' would force characters to have to hunt more and not rely on amassing huge amounts of food - this is one thing that is always easy to get.

This would force the player to hunt more or return to villages more to restock - effectively limiting the amount of Fast Travel that can be used if you do not have enough food to make the trip.

Just a thought....

It may be nice for a mod or a hardcoe mode, but not the vanilla game.
I feel that it would only add annoyance, another thing to micromanage.

Realism must be subservient to enjoyable gameplay at some point.

No, at least not for Skyrim where cold (preserves food) is a natural thing.

True enough - I guess we are walking around in an ice box.

But, a hardcoe mode similar to Fallout would be good, with faster food depletion as I rarely got the first level of starvation sickness.

I like this actually, especially if you have to eat, drink and sleep on regular basis.

Can we also have a meter where if we don't poop or pee for a while, we suffer negative effects and could die or soil yourself? Also, if we spin around too much, we should get dizzy and throw up.

Come on, too much realism, and the game becomes an unplayable chore, made for only a select few.

I hate to bring up Viva Pinata on this forum, but rotten food is annoying and makes my pinatas sad.
It couldn't possible be good for my ES character.
It would totally add to the realism, you are correct there. but I still don't want it.

That's a pretty hardcoe idea. As a MOD sure, but not for vanilla Skyrim. Pretty crazy.

Is it just me or do people want the game to be exactly like real life.

Maybe Bethesda should just make a game entitled 'Real Life' and say... Hey you moaning fekkers, happy now????

And you'll be like... Ah feck no, real life is [expletive]

With that attitude, I'm surprised you want anything to do with Elder Scrolls titles.

Just because people like some realism in a game isn't cause to bash them. I prefer realism because I like to use real-world logic to solve my in-game problems. The more realism there is to work with, the better. Excuse me, if I'd prefer to climb the wall, than levitate over it.

But...TES isn't Real Life, nor should it be. It's literally a world where myth is real. Also, your anology isn't really that good. I'd like to climb a wall too, but I don't want my food and potions to spoil, stop to pee, or bath every few days as it'll become more of a boring and annoying chore.

I think this would be a pretty interesting feature, but probably too much for most people. If it was optional, I know I would do it. Probably best be something that you can turn on or off.

I would like moldy food to find in dungeons, tombs and the like but I would rather have regular food not spoil.

Yea guys, TES should be regular non realism boring stuff like taking Dragon souls and shouting Dragon blasts from your mouth. No realism at all. And I know ES slogan is "Live vanother life in another world" but that doesn't matter to non hardcoe players. Just beat the game and be like I "Pwned" a Dragon, Hurpa Durpa Slurpa. Really....ES is another world, yes. But people have to survive on way or another.

Food rotting will actually add nice feel to gameplay instead of just making it more realistic.
By food rotting, stores with food and hunting will actually have meaning instead of being there just for looks.

You people have to realize some of us won't be able to mod our damn games because we play on the consoles. Not everyone is a PC player.

Characters don't need to eat food to live, so this is entirely pointless.

Yes. But only if we also get annoying minstrels and combat telekinesis. Those lute-slinging creeps will think twice about bothering me with their stupid ballads after I pelt them with a few maggot-ridden pumpkins at super-sonic speeds.

Maybe but they'd have to expand on it. Taking things out like the HUD made New Vegas more like a hardcoe mode than making you hoar a few toilets and food. And the difficulty just makes enemies bullet sponges, doesn't add to their ability as better enemies, though this can be chalked to bad AI. Also I think hardcoe mode between FO and TES should be translated differently. Some food should rot, weather should affect body, etc. I'd consider Fallout would have more mishaps and strict guidelines than TES. Should translate into rough but more in an outdoor survivalist way than possibly last man in the destroyed region trying to survive minute by minute. If there is a translated o TES hardcoe mode I hope they give the option to ditch the map/compass. Maybe have there be natural ways and marks to trudge around the landscape. This can easily be expanded upon.
