Royal hoses of Tamriel

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:25 am

What noble and royal houses exist or have existed in Tamriel? And have the great houses of Morrowind emerged from noble families? There are several Hlaalus on high positions, most known being the king Helseth, but AFAIK there are no people that appear in the games that have the names of other great houses.
Also, are we sure that there is no heir to the throne of the Empire, and that Uriel didn't have some cousin or nephew?

Helseth does not bear the name Hlaalu. It's just his House name. Most dunmer names go like [Great House Name][First Name][Surname].

And there are some people who bear the name Hlaalu , but are not part of the House, like the leader of the Morag Tong.

And yes, the Septim line is dead. As Martin said, Uriel left no heirs. Some would argue that the Septim line already ended after the death of Pelagius I Septim or Cassynder Septim.

I think Helseth as king cannot occupy an important seat of House Hlaalu. It simply doesn't make sense; a person does not have the time and resources to have two functions. But he is a member of House Hlaalu.

All of Uriel's legitimate sons were not only of age, they were past their youth. If not a single one of them had kids, then the old man either had his heirs spayed, or Alessia Ottus was correct about Altmer customs feminizing Cyrodiilic men.

The Camoran Dynasty has been around for ages, presumably the famous kings seen in the games like Thassaud, Lysandus, etc came with lengthy lineages. The Septims and Remans were just one of many lines of Colovian monarchs.

Edit: I think Oblivion was the first game were hose was actually present as a clothing option. Everyone is too scared to wear anything but medieval jeans.

I think the most prestigious royal hose of Tamriel is the one used to water the garden of Castle Wayrest, as it was indisputably the most lush and verdant royal garden depicted in the entire series.

Indeed. 'Twas a fine hose and will be sorely missed. But lets not forget its fine partner, the Royal Bucket, used to wash the feet of many a great emperors.

Was it not the hose Martin used to single-handedly water the square patch of grass at Cloud Ruler Temple?

Ahem. Yes, the Septims are all dead. None Uriel's sons had any kids, for some reason (Crazy Altmers).

Does anyone know,if there is a Septim family tree somewhere?
And concerning the Dunmer houses, were the high-ranked members of a house related earlier, and are there documents about leaders of a house having the same surname as the name of his house?

A google search didn't get me anything, but I think it would be fairly easily for a good lore buff to make one.

It's a typo; and not one funny enough to bring it up again a week later.

Not when you make the exact same joke as someone else did only three hours into the original thread, a week later. ;)

The decendants of Andorak Septim still rule Shornhelm, which was given to him as part of a truce bargin during the aftermath of the War of the Red Diamond (which the Septim Dynasty Family Tree at the UESP fails to point out, due to the fact that the decendants of Andorak are unknown).

'The Council's last victory over Uriel IV was posthumous. Andorak, Uriel IV's son, was disinherited by vote of Council, and a cousin more closely related to the original Septim line was proclaimed Cephorus II in 3E247. For the first nine years of Cephorus II's reign, those loyal to Andorak battled the Imperial forces. In an act that the Sage Eraintine called "Tiber Septim's heart beating no more," the Council granted Andorak the High Rock kingdom of Shornhelm to end the war, and Andorak's descendants still rule there.' - From 'A Brief History of the Empire, Part Three'

And while people have brought up in mockery of the thread, Wayrest's noble hose, there have been infact three Dynastys that have controlled Wayrest at various times. The Gardners, the Cumberlands and the Horleys, aswell as the Septims.

'The Gardner Dynasty fell, followed by the Cumberland Dynasty, which was followed by the Horley Dynasty, and finally, in the Third Era, the Septim Dynasty. No citizen of another kingdom of comparable age can, with one hand, name all the families who have ever ruled.' - From 'Wayrest, Jewel of the Bay'

Considering we are dealing with an extensive family tree with many unknowns to us, but presumably the Elder Council does have a more completely listing of the family tree, there is bound to be someone found that can be named heir to the throne. Unless of course they have other plans for the Empire.

In doing so they will first have to admit that Oblivion's plot was awful. :P

"It is certainly true, I pressed on, that the Emperor's relationship with Calaxes had become very stormy, and that legislation had been passed to limit the Church's authority. That is, up until the moment when Calaxes disappeared, suddenly, without notice to his closest of friends. Many said that Lady Benoch and the Imperial Guard assassinated the Archbishop Calaxes in the sacristy of his church -- the date usually given was the 29th of Sun's Dusk 3E 498."

I personally believe it would be pretty lame if he did. The line's dead. I wanna see some Akaviri attack Skyrim. I hate that that seems somewhat expected, but...I just wanna see some Akaviri...

[censored] it. i just wanna seem something super cool. Something to make up for Oblivion.

In case no one noticed, Oblivion was the super cool epic idea, and they'd been planning it and subtly hyping it since Tribunal. They even told Tedders to write a PGE about Tamriel getting tamer for a contrast.

Lol, yes I suppose if they did that it would be like an admission of guilt, however it's the game itself did this already, so I'm not sure it would really matter anymore.

True, I am ready to see a departure from traditional fantasy back to some high fantasy; hopefully now that they have gotten all the new fans they will.

I guess personally, I would like to see some REAL discord now, with the provinces becoming more independent, the Legions become autonomous to control by the Elder Council, and maybe some scheming by Helseth. Of course I really just want to see TES wonder me like Morrowind did.

Hehe, one I've actually read before! I wonder actually why they didn't make Martin Calaxes's son. I mean, how many affairs is this guy gonna have? 2 illegitimate sons?
