Royal Rumble. Anyone exicted for it?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:37 pm

Well besides Wrestlemania, this is my favourite PPV in Double Double E. (hope you guys and gals get it. :)) I have ruined it a bit since I read some spoilers in what "could" happen.
I am not looking forward to it being "upped" to 40 men (and women) this year. We already have a lot of dead weight or know that nobody is going to win it, so adding 10 more can
make it worse.

Also I am hating how WWE advertises a PPV with 4 matches, and then add matches out of the blue. So it looks like it will happen here as well. :banghead:

Spoiler here, so don't read if you don't want to know.

Spoiler
I have read that 2 "surprise" wresters are going to show up. I don't know how to take this, because they said some old vetrans will make an apperance as well.

I am guessing, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO could be one of them.

Also 2 former champions will show up as well. I don't want to spoil it for you unless you PM me. :P

So are you guys and gals looking forward to this PPV? I am as always. I just hope I don't get disapointed.

I agree.... wrestling is still around? I thought this died out when my generation grew up *shrugs*.
Not excited, it's stupid. If I wanted to watch grown men knock eachother out, i'd not only watch something real, i'd watch something worth watching, like UFC or MMA.

My thoughts exactly...
I haven't watched wrasslin since I was twelve, but I don't feel the need to bash those that do. It's not like those that watch it have no clue that it's all scripted.

Well it is now on SyFy, and no one watches that channel, so thats why you haven't heard about it in ages.

Um. When did I bash the OP? My personal and subjective thoughts on wrestling are it's stupid. At no point did I say the OP is stupid, lame or anything else for watching wrestling.
If I Was bashing him I would of said "your a [censored] homo for liking this". but I didn't. To each his own.

@rofl, thanks for letting me know. I wondered why I never saw anything.

Of course we all know wrestling is fake. They even admit it themselves. Wrestling is a live soap opera. Yes they have lots of bad story lines, but watching it live and some of the stuff they can do watching it live is amazing sometimes.

I am not into it s much since the stories they use is recylced over and over again. It's basically like Days of our Lives. Same story but with differnet people. I just like the Royal Rumble. Not knowing who the next wrestler is going to be. I guess the 10 second count down is part of the excitement and then hearing the buzzer to see who is out next, is FUN.

Also to knock of wrestling is just like knocking off any TV show anyone watches on TV. So many stupid story lines in TV, movies and even video games. Wrestling is entertainment. Just like watching TV, Movies, broadway, sports events even. Yes Wrestling is not a Sport, but to become a wrestler in todays age, you have to in top notch shape. You have to be in more shape that a football player, (American Football) espically Baseball. These people really get hurt.

They even wrestle hurt. Not like an Baseball player or basketball player in MLB or NBA who "stubbed" their toe and can't play a few games. While it is fake, you have to admire the atheletisim they are able to accomplish. Yes I agree, alot of stuff is stupid, but then that could be said for any TV show, music video, Movie, and Video game.

*edit* Nobody is bashing here at all. We all give an opnion. I think it's a great debate of why "wrestling" is stupid. Actually it's good stupid fun. Thing is, it's not for everyone. :)

You're comparing, fake, staged wrestling to sports such as Football and Baseball? I hope you realize, there are dozens of injuries, while minor, if constant strain is added, can lead to ended careers and perm. damage to muscles and other stuff. And you seemed to take my opinion of wrestling to heart. It's my personal opinion, I think it's stupid. Wrestlers are trained to take falls and hits. Nothing more.

And actors are trained to read lines and walk about on a stage. Does that make their achievement less impressive?

I don't watch wrestling myself, but I can freely admit that their acrobatics and pantomiming are entertaining - it's drama for a more roughneck crowd. :P

Yes I am comparing fake wrestling to football and baseball. Why because wresters are athletes. That is right, they are trained to take falls and hits. It is not an easy thing to do. Just like a football player has to learn to take a hit, the same is for wrestlers.

Again, wrestling is not a sport. It is sport entertainment. Yes it is a fake sport. Yes it is scripted and the results are known before hand. But just like a soap opera or any TV show or movie, the play is done before the audience to see. In how they enact it out, for some it's entertaining. While it is a fake sport, with pre determined results, it is entertainment. Just because it is entertainment, the characters are also atheletes. You can't take away what they do from other athletes. When I compare the two, wrestling to "baseball" (can you really call baseball players true athletes? If you can, the same can go for wrestlers as well) alot of wrestlers, wrestle (or "act") hurt. If a baseball player stubs his toe, he complains and cries, he can't play and sits out a few games.

While my original post was for people who like wrestling and the Royal Rumble, I am enjoying this debate about wrestling. I hope we can continue this, it is enjoyable. :)

To me the scripting is what does it for me. Knowing that it is all merely predetermined takes any and all excitement out of it.

Football is about two teams going to battle and fighting to win. Any team can win on any given sunday, and that is what makes football great. It is not predetermined, it is about who the best team is when it's game time.

I used to watch WWE and WWF though, but I stopped ~15. I know a lot of people my age who still watch it, and many people who are older who watch it. People like different types of entertainment, pure and simple.

They have emotions and a story to show Wresteling dosent.
Also I am only basingg this of Dirty sanchez, but I am going to assume Japannese wresteling is more realistic, if they fight on broken glass.

Instead of that why not watch boxing ? Judo ? MMA ? Or something with actual fighting, that isnt scripted. The fact its all scipted heapens it as a sport if 2 rugby teams acted in a certain way it would result in an investigation for corruption, kinda like the cricket issue.

If people enjoy it thats fine by me, just dont understand it.

It being on syfy explains everything too, dont watch that either.

Wrestling used to be entertaining. Back when they used legitimate athletes, actors and entertainers. There are two kinds of WWE/WWF pre- John Cena and post-John Cena and I prefer to remember pre Spinner Belt. Wrestling was the [censored] from about 1990-2001.

Ah but wrestling does tell a story. The problem of todays wrestling, is Vince is so full of himself, the he is accepting the crappy writing or his ideas that he is putting out, is just plain bad.
I agree the story telling is so bad now, but what can I do, been watching for over 30 years now. :)

Don't forget, wrestling tells a story. Yes most of the stories are bad now, but still, when you are at a live even, and you cheering or BOOING the person you don't like, it's great. Again, it's a LIVE SOAP OPERA. There is no other entertainment that does this. It's either on TV rehearsed or on movies that are rehearsed as well. Watching wrestling live as well, things go wrong. It's nice to catch their slip ups and you laugh at it.
If people enjoy it thats fine by me, just dont understand it.

Well here on Canada it's on the Score so I can't comment on it being on syfy since we don't have it here. As for not understanding why people like it, it's just like saying why do some people love Twilight and others hate it. Why do some people love Titainc, or Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars, or What ever. Some people swear they are the greatest movies, while others say they are the worst or just blah. If you don't like it, it will be hard to try and convince someone saying it's great or good.

OH I miss the wrestling of the 80's and 90's. Yes wrestling has gone downhill right now. Being PG in WWE has anything to do with it? No, I don't think so, it's just a few people in power in WWE that is letting this crappy story telling to happen.

That's generally the way I watch it myself. I switch off and just watch and enjoy the show. Although growing up in the 90's and actually remembering the Monday Night Wars I have to say it does get a bit depressing to watch at times. Although I do like spotting mistakes being made throughout the show.

Also Davor I only know that I hope the rumors of Papa Shango being a part of the rumble are true as he takes me back to the 90's.

KPNuts, what I read was the return of 2 WWE champions. I would site the website, but if spelt wrong, goes to not so nice site, so I will not link to it. :P I am not to sure how to take these people returning. I had great respect for them, but here is another clue, when they were in TNA, one of them looked a bit pathetic and not the Powerhouse he was in WWE. But it will be nice non the less. If it is true, the crowd will go crazy and wild over them when they are announced.
