rpg maker on steam

Post » Fri Dec 27, 2013 9:51 pm

Okay so I saw the rpg maker on steam on sale and its got a lot of nice dlcs to go with plus there are a couple of communities that share free work/addons/etc.
If anyone has actually spent time on this I was wondering a few things.

First off I was thinking of making a rpg that takes a lot from tabletop. So I have a few questions

1. Can u design a game that's based off dice rolls?
2. Can u design games that let u put points into skills?
3. Can u design actions for skills to be used outside of combat?

as someone who has used several RPG Makers in the past (XP, VX, and 2003) I will try and answer your questions..

1) you CAN, doing it for Events would be pretty simple, but for Combat you would need to rewrite the default Combat script using the RGSS2 scripting tab
2) once again, it is possible, but you would have to write a few things into the scripting menu
3) once again, yes, but you will have to get a hang on writing scripts first..

I bought this program around a year ago and It is really good. I haven't really done anything with it yet but I have plans. I know you can do pretty much anything with it if you know how to write the script.

Sry at work so I'm late to replying.
Sweet that's good to know, so ill hold off on the writing of scripts or learning it until I got a good grasp on the program. Hopefully its easier than xp.

Hopefully I can have control over the leveling process. I think I will start off with some pregens and work on getting the characters customizable.
