RPG Maker

I bought it yesterday, and I was wondering if anyone else has tried to make their own games with it? And how did they turn out?

It seems simple enough, and I've already learned to create basic dialogue. No clue about the available battle systems, but all in due time. I've done pixel art in the past, and I'm relatively exited to replace all the stock art with my own creations. I'll probably make the music myself as well. Right now I have a lot of motivation, but we'll see how long it lasts.

If there's anyone even remotely interested in making games, I recommend checking RPG Maker out. A lot easier than I thought, and I have no previous experience of creating anything similar.

Yeah i got into creating a game years back with it, had my own battle system scripts, all my own art and animations, and then my computer crashed and it all got deleted. I even had cut scenes i put into the game made from Flash, and the scope for the game was big.

I just recently bought RPG maker the other day, and im recreating the game, only this time it will be better.

I got RPG Maker XP, so i had to get a custom sideview battle system off the net, but i am able to incorporate double and triple attacks and stuff, which is somewhat essential for my game.

Basically the game is about this metal head stoner guy that starts off in his apartment and needs to go pick up some more drugs. On his way out there are suddenly riots through the city, but he wants the drugs bad, so he's fighting a bunch of gangsters and stuff til he gets to his drug dealer, who is being interrogated by a gang leader. The PC gets into a fight with him, and when the gang leader dies he burns up and disappears. He gets in some last words with his drug dealer, who tells him to go into his house and get a special mushroom.

The PC takes the mushroom home, and decides to eat it. In which he gets transported to the Heavy Metal Realm, his skin turns green, hair turns white, eyes turn yellow and his hoodie and jeans turn into badass plate armour, and he gets a guitar that shoots lightning and fire and other magical attacks.

In the heavy metal world (i kinda based the orignal place off the world in the Movie Heavy Metal where that chick has to kill all the green orc dudes), he ends up fighting a bunch of metal mascots from various albums (Eddie from Iron Maiden, Vic Rattlehead from Megadeth, Painkiller from Judas Priest, etc), all the background and battle music is Metal, and the main character finds out he is a metal Cleric, and ends up having to group together a metal band from other inhabitants of the metal world, he gets a drummer, bassist, singer and keyboardist to join the team eventually.

At points through the game the PC comes down off of the mushrooms, and reverts back to the real world. So essentially the main character is two different characters (real world guy and metal world guy, as well as two separate parties), and he has to go find more of these magical mushrooms in the real world and fight a bunch of agents sent from the metal world, and eat the mushrooms to get back to the metal world where [censored] is going down.

I already had a sequel planned, for the end of the game was resulting the real world and metal world merging, and it becomes a post apocalyptic world of destroyed cities that are overrun with crazy metal creatures, orcs and all that.

I have had lots of fun with the game, and my old room mate was my tester who played as far as i got, and every time he was always like "dammit, you need to finish this game, i just want to keep playing!" So i think it was pretty good.

Still, i cant wait to recreate this thing, and now ive got more thought put into the story and various encounters. Im just in the phase of creating my main characters and getting all the battle scripts customized for my game.

And also, i started making this game long before Brutal Legends came out and basically took my same premise (even though they are completely different kinds of games).
