E3 RPG of the year

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2011 8:34 am

E3 is just around the corner June 7th -9th with the big press conferences beforehand. This year it's going to be two heavyweights battling it out for best RPG of show. With Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 the showing this year is sure to be rememberable. Assuming the majority will choose Skyrim please explain why you believe one will beat out the other. I for one don't care for Mass Effect too much, but I sure am excited to see what the two games have to show off. Hopefully in fear of loosing to one another Skyrim will have a massive showing.

Witcher 2 is a
Strong contender.

No doubt Skyrim, with Witcher 2 coming a close second; if it comes out for consoles as well.

Yea, the normal competition is Skyrim vs Witcher if we still care about the rpg label, Mass Effect being something else.

I don't really care who get the most awards, and I wouldn't even if I didn't care at all about the games. Awards mean nothing to me. :P

I do however look forward to both games very much. And even though I love BioWare I have to say that I'm looking forward to Skyrim the most. :tes:

EDIT: Of course the Mass Effect series are RPG games, to simply call it a shooter would be lying. Did you miss the choices you get to make in like, every conversation?

Now, if Bethesda and Bioware co-created an open-world Mass Effect game, that would be too much awesomeness and in all likelihood destroy E3 and everything else in a 10 block radius.

THIS!!! =D

I must confess when I played the OBLIVION,I lost myself in that marvelous world the game build for our gamers, albeit in the game Mass effect 2 ,yeah,It's a pretty good game,I enjoyed myself, but I'm a little bit disappointed it's too short,in OBLIVION I spent over 150 h,and I still didn't want to quit, aaah, I will never forget that experience.

whatever SKYRIM will be look like , I 'm always be right there waiting it to launch cause this is my favourite game,it was and it will be.

Skyrim, because Mass Effect is going downhill in my opinion. First one was alright, second one got a bit stupid with the storyline. Romancing the quarian was cool, and the future story for tension between Legion and Tali could be interesting, but I won't be around to see it, because I'll be in Skyrim, shouting at Dragons

Well, no one here knows much about Skyrim. If it delivers as much as Oblivion did with updated graphics, it's still a contender by virtue of content amount -- but, mainstream gamers are more likely to enjoy the guided "control the movie plot!" feel of Mass Effect. I of course would vote Skyrim because I like making my own choices. I still think Mass Effect will win. I hope I'm proved wrong!

I'll pick fighting dragons anyday over 'romancing a quarian' or 'controlling a lame B grade movie plot'

Sorry for double posting, can't edit on my phone -- I mean, no one who spends their time on a game forum half a year before the game comes out can be considered mainstream. You obviously care more about what's in the games you play. I'm going to make a baseless generalization and say that most mass console consumers are going to prefer being guided through a cinematic game. Maybe -- and hopefully -- I'm wrong, but we'll see at E3.

Honestly I dont even know what the defenition is. There may be people out there who think that games like Dragon Age, Two Worlds, Fable, and Mass Effect are great examples of rpgs.... and in their defense these are good attempts at it. But to me they all have a lot to learn from TES.

Mass Effect suffers horribly from linear quests and locations in my opinion. Everywhere you go feels like a 'path' because it is. The exploration and character development is below par also. I found myself skipping through dialog because halfway through the game (probably earlier) I realized I just didnt care about the main quest anymore, it just bored the hell out of me. Worse yet, it felt like there were four weapons in the whole game. Rifle, Sniper, Shotgun and pistol. There were loads of each type of weapon, but every single one felt and looked and operated the exact same way. Dont even get me started on the armor selection.

Dont get me wrong I like Mass Effect. But comparing it to The Elder Scrolls in an rpg competition is like......well....Its like comparing Mass Effect to The Elder Scrolls. Its just stupid.

You need more RPG's in your poll. Don't forget about Dragon's Dogma.

Never heard of it. The current poll is fine; Mass Effect and Skyrim are going to be the big two this year.

Why only 2 options? I vote The Witcher 2.
ME is a shooter, not rpg, and Skyrim is likely going to be a mess like Oblivion, unplayable without mods.

Wtf are you smoking there buddy? Skyrim is not going to be a mess like Oblivion and you CAN mod. Duh it was confirmed. :banghead:

Skyrim wins over Mass Effect for sure, though the latter will be cool, too.

Don't get me wrong, it'll be very close. I love the Mass Effect series as much as the next red-blooded Californian. But the main selling point of any Bioware game is the story - something they do exceptionally well, I might add.

This right here is something I hope will be said about Bethesda after Skyrim is out. I'd like them to have a reputation for great stories that really touch you and hit you.
