E3 RPG of the year

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2011 2:37 am

E3 is just around the corner June 7th -9th with the big press conferences beforehand. This year it's going to be two heavyweights battling it out for best RPG of show. With Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 the showing this year is sure to be rememberable. Assuming the majority will choose Skyrim please explain why you believe one will beat out the other. I for one don't care for Mass Effect too much, but I sure am excited to see what the two games have to show off. Hopefully in fear of loosing to one another Skyrim will have a massive showing.

I would take Skyrim's alchemy over Mass Effect.

Hmmm... A mass effect vs. TES poll on a TES forum.....I wonder how this will turn out.

This is a horrible poll. Mass Effect does not even come close to the magnitude of The Elder Scrolls.

Skyrim, in my opinion, will win because it looks to be an Open World RPG nearly perfected, by todays standards, with numerous inovations in both rpg, action, and world features.

Don't get me wrong, it'll be very close. I love the Mass Effect series as much as the next red-blooded Californian. But the main selling point of any Bioware game is the story - something they do exceptionally well, I might add.

But as good as the story Bioware tells with Mass Effect 2, it simply can't measure up to the rich experiences given by a well-crafted open world rpg. Infinite stories versus one well crafted stories, to put it another way.

Anyway, thats why I think Skyrim will surpass Mass Effect 2. Now, if Bethesda and Bioware co-created an open-world Mass Effect game, that would be too much awesomeness and in all likelihood destroy E3 and everything else in a 10 block radius.

This.

And what's the point of having polls with other games going against Skyrim ON THE SKYRIM FORUM?

"Well, the results are in. Looks like Skyrim won guys BIG SURPRISE!"

I haven't played any titles in the ME series yet, so I can't really give an unbiased opinion. However, judging by what I've heard and seen of ME, I would have to go with Skyrim for the simple fact that there seems to be so much more involved with making an open-world RPG as opposed to a more linear RPG that has a well-written storyline. That said, wouldn't it be kind of jumping the gun to declare one as 'RPG of the Year' before either is released?

I know nothing about Mass Effect or E3, but I suppose this is a question of tastes. Depending what game preffer who take the decission, the winner could be any of the two or a third one.

I dunno this is a no brainer to me. Mass Effect isnt even comparable to TES, in fact no 'RPG' is. Nothing competes with ES. To think otherwise isnt just blasphemy its borderline lunatic behavior if you ask me.

The only thing that has come close to matching what ES does is Fallout 3 and NV.....Go figure right?

E3 has an award for Best-Looking RPG of 2011, Best RPG of 2011, etc.

So that is really what we're discussing. Although the subtitle of this thread really asks which will "win more awards".

In that instance, I would still say Skyrim, even though I'm sure ME3 will get it's fair share. I would say they may even tie for E3 award total numbers.

I guess it's about (as the OP says) which game will "make a better showing" at E3.

The Witcher 2 is suposed to come out this year too, that's more RPG than ME ever was. For me the RPG of the year is betwwen Skyrim and Witcher.

Why only 2 options? I vote The Witcher 2.
ME is a shooter, not rpg, and Skyrim is likely going to be a mess like Oblivion, unplayable without mods.

ME 1 was an action rpg shooter hybrid. ME 2 was a cover based shooter. They say they will add back more rpg elements, but I'm skeptical especially seeing how (I can't understand why) so many people liked the second better. In other words I don't think you can even consider ME 3 an option until we know more.
