RPG of the Year

I am waiting for The Witcher II...There is a truly open ended RPG. And if it came out before or at the same time as NV, it would have won RPG of the year. Go and check the trailers on youtube...I have always been a fan of that game and play FONV as I am waiting for it to launch...

Mass Effect 2 might be linear, but it is certainly more interesting and engagin than New Vegas.

Opinion. ME2 moves faster and is more cinematic, NV is much deeper. Depends on the person.

The choices you make actually make a difference unlike New Vegas.

Strongly disagree. The choices you make NV are just as (if not more) impactful as those you make in ME2 and there are more of them.

Seriously, there is no arguing about whether or not Mass Effect is an RPG or not. Does having a good combat system suddenly exclude a game from being an RPG? No! What a stupid thing to say.

"Good" combat system? It's a FPS combat system with an RPG-like system for adding weapons and new abilities. It's not even in the same ballpark as NV's system as far as factoring in character abilities and skills. ME2's combat system is fast, twitchy, and fun, but it's not a deep RPG combat system. It's "good" if you prefer it over the alternative. I like both...it depends on the game. I wouldn't say one is inherently better than the other.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED ME2...a lot. I wouldn't compare it with NV, though. They're different types of games. ME2 is like playing a fun action/sci-fi movie while NV is more of a deep RPG experience. I like them both for different reasons. Sure, ME2 is an RPG. It's just lighter on what are typically considered "RPG gameplay elements" and heavier on the FPS mechanics while NV is lighter on the action gameplay and heavier on RPG mechanics and such.

One huge advantage that NV has over ME2, though: no resource gathering! Wow, who's idea was that? "Hey guys, let's hamstring our otherwise beautiful space opera RPG with the most tedious mini-game we can think of. On top of that, we'll make the player do it for half their playtime if they want any of the weapon or ship upgrades. It'll be hilarious!" :( Soooo glad I played on the PC so I could edit my save file on my second play-through and skip that garbage.

Actually Mass Effect is a TPS. Thank god. I hate FPS. :)

Really?
Mass Effect 2 was an RPG?
I thought it was a cover-based action adventure sci-fi game with loose RPG and romance mechanics. (I don't "hate" Mass Effect 2 but I certainly do not consider it an RPG.)

Basically this, for me too. I loved the game, but it was more of a story driven FPS TPS with inventory management then a "real" RPG. While the story wasn't great it was exciting they did an awesome job on the animations, and characters (yay Tali!)

As for "choices that matter" all you get from a ME1 to ME 2 converted character is a few extra people and dialog that pop up? XD
