RPing a Daedric artefact hunter (help required)

Post » Thu Jan 09, 2014 3:02 am

To me, the whole concept seems impossible. I want to roll one, but can't justify how I would be able to seek out a number of the quests and I'm asking the good people of these forums for some help. It would be greatly appreciated! For example, from an RP pov, how would my character even have an inclination of where to begin with the likes of Namria, Mephala, Hircine and Hermaeus Mora?

The character wouldn't be in Skyrim to run errands, randomly help some spoilt kid in Dragon Reach etc and like i was the very first time I loaded the game up, have no prior knowledge of any quest.

I don't mean this as a slight on anyone as I have played in this manner too at some point myself, but it seems a portion of Daedric quests are purely there for the 'do everything in one play through' crowd rather than for those of us that like to justify our selection of quests in-game and in character. Oblivion had its issues, but at least each shrine could be realistically sought out.

At least with the likes of Malacath I can justify it as I can ask around the orc strongholds, with Molag Bal my character would investigate after being approached and so on.

  1. Azura: just ask the innkeeper in Winterhold if they've heard any rumors, or talk to the disciple of Azura you may find traveling along the roads.
  2. Mehrunes Dagon: You'll receive a letter for that at level 20.
  3. Boethiah: I believe you can get the quest for it from reading the book Boethiah's proving, which a copy of can be found on Septimus' book case.
  4. Heramous Mora: You'll need to talk to Septimus when your looking for the elder scroll for the main quest line. So just give him the lexicon and follow from there.
  5. Meridia: Just traveling west of Solitude one day and you happen upon the shrine where she orders you to retrieve her beacon? Or you can get lucky and happen to find it before visiting the shrine?
  6. Hircine: some people may be talking about how the prisoner just mauled some little girl, so you decide to talk to him to get to the bottom of it.
  7. Clavicus Vile: the guards will ask you about it when you enter Falkreath.
  8. Shaegorath: Walking in Solitude one day and some dude walks up to you asking for assistance with finding his master. You agree to help, one thing leads to another, turns out it's Shaegorath.
  9. Vaermina: Talk to Erandur about Dawnstar's nightmare problem and help him solve it.
  10. Sanguine: Meet a strange man in an inn one day, and some strange things happen. It'll be a night to remember.
  11. Peryite: Meet one of the Afflicted on the road and hear about the shrine of Peryite? (Hasn't happened to me personally so I wouldn't know the exact context).
  12. Nocturnal: thieves guild quest line.
  13. Namira: Hear rumors abut the Hall of the Dead in Markarth being closed, go to investigate it.
  14. Mephala: pick up the rumor from the Bannered Mare in Whiterune.

Hope this gives you some ideas to RP off of.

Thanks for the reply, it's appreciated. However, being solely in Skyrim to hunt Daedric items, I would have absolutely no inkling that say Mephala was behind certain shenanigans from the description I'm served up in the Bannered Mare and the same goes for 3 or so others. Take Heramous Mora as another example, there's nothing prior to meeting Septimus that would indicate he's working under the influence of a Daedric prince (unless there's a book/text that suggests he's being influenced by a higher power as that would at least arouse my character's suspicions). As such it wouldn't cross my character's mind to begin his quest.

Meridia, Peryite etc are obvious for fairly obvious reasons. The likes of Sanguine can be easily implemented into the RP and I would assume any budding artefact hunter would be able to suspect Vaermina is behind the nightmares in Dawnstar, so those aren't an issue.

It depends on how Sherlock-homes'y you want your character to be. As Deadric artifact hunter, I would think I would be an expert on all the Deadra. An intuitive person would catch small subtle clues, be looking for abnormalities in the way that people behave. Anything really to do with the Aedra or Deadra would be something that a hunter would look into... The "mysterious" disapearence of students would also be something that a hunter would look into, just in case.

There is no dialogue for all the Deadra that would be "in your face...here's a Deadra at work"... or in some cases even more subtle dialogue. Some of it you are going to have to use your imagination for or just not do the quest's for those Deadra, that is up to you.

Talk to everyone on the road and you should run into both Peryite and Boethiah....
