RPing in the Forums

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 8:26 am

Should Roleplaying be allowed in these forums? In my opinion, forums are a place for information, not a place for people to pretend. That is what the game is for.

Roleplaying in the forums causes confusion, makes it difficult to discuss topics, and (to me) is annoying as all hell.

Just wanted some other opinions.

I find RPing on forums extremely annoying and nerdy to the level of some of those weirdo anime fans. But if they make a place for it and I don't have to see it, I really don't care.

How do we know you're not RP'ing as a forum user who is supposedly annoyed by RP'ing in these forums?

Perfect. Everything according to the plan.

*creepy Palpatine's smile*

(I voted YES. Of course. RP makes everything funner)

LOL, I do talk about forum topics and I just do it in 3rd person as a Khajiit will talk and only one topic that I created. ~shrugs~

I am not rp'ing per say...

Rp'er and non-Rp'ers have to get used being around each in game, not why the forums also?

Give the creepy people somewhere to go be together, not the general forum.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them creepy...even though it seriously creeps me out. Then again, maybe I'm just too nice.

(Not true) Stereo typing:

All PVP'ers are just jerks

All RP'ers are "creepy"

Video games are bad for ya.

RP truly creeps people out, therefore making all RPers creepy, at least to those it creeps out. It isn't a stereotype, it is a feeling.

If you don't like or don't understand the topic of a thread, close the page & walk away.

If you are a Nord, get drunk, scratch your butt......& stagger away smelling badly & singing worse.

Just a FYI:

There are different types of RP.

hardcoe RP, go by lore all the time and one must be in char at all times

Common RP, go by lore most of the time and can talk out of char via // or /OOC [out of char] before text

Meta RP, use non lore topics and really talking out of char -- this what I have done in these forums, I do talk about the game, PVP, attachment to chars, etc, I just said in 3rd person, not the common 1st person way. I only do it in topics that I created or may be say a silly line or two before I go in the real topic of the thread.

To me, it helps make friends and get to know people better.

you want an honest reply?

RP is, I find, an important aspect of atmosphere - it helps *set* the sense of world. I actually rather enjoyed Khajiti-speak forum thread - it was nice to 1 - see something a little different and creative and 2 - get a little taste of one of those features that make the Elder scrolls universe distinctive and interesting.

I don't think forum chat should be mandatory RP, and by the same token, I don't think it should be mandatory OOC - I think forums are places for the people that enjoy/care about the game to gather and discuss issues of all kinds. Lots of people have complained that forums are dominated by negativity - by people more interested in voicing complaints about systems and personal dislike than they are about things they like about the game - RP'er activity in forums is often about just enjoying the very world that has been created for them

if you're one of those hoping to see a little more positivity from the community, RP'ers are definitely one of those groups of people you should perhaps look forward to.

Now, are there some really lame RP'ers...of course there are. There are just as many [censored]-bag PVP'ers, min-maxers and whiners as there are creepy rp'ers and lore nazis and so on - every sub-culture has it's jerks

but *I* find that people dedicated to RP, when you sift out the self-indulgent megalomaniacs and the attention [censored]s, do an admirable job of reminding us that we're not playing Generic Fantasy MMO - we're playing Elder Scrolls Online. With Khajit that talk in the 3rd person, Orsimer that bear a grudge against the very Bretons they have to call allies, coldly arrogant Altmer and Imperials that secretly yearn for...whatever Imperials secretly yearn for. Truth be told, we're at least what...2 centuries before all the active lore I'm aware of (morrowind, oblivion, and skyrim) so I'm a little out of touch myself...

but my point is, you may find the RP'ers creepy, and I find that a little sad, because I think you're missing out on at least one of the fun aspects of getting lost in another world, but it's not for everyone - but since you asked if anyone felt different...I do. I *like* having the RP community around - they make this game less generic, and more specific, for me, and I just sort of tune out the ones that creep me out or make me roll my eyes.

anyway - you asked

I'm not an RPer but I find the degree of intolerance suggested by this thread disturbing >< They are just having fun with language. Fun is good.

K9, don't let em get to ya :) <3

When one does RP, one have to talk with another person about topics. Over time, you get to know the real person behind the char. I made very good friends that way, 1st we RP chars with each other, then [with eough time has past[ we talk with each out of char too

contrast with a PVP type person

Run around killing each other, little or not talking and if they do talk, it is smack, not trying to understand each other's POV.

IMHO, RP does help to build relationships more then a pure PVP play style will allow over all.

What...? RPing creepy? RPing is pretty much being an author, but with a bunch of other people helping out.

Well if you are a Nord (scandinavian) and also drunk in real life this comes pretty naturally. I can also not sing and need an shower.

This is real life, I can now discus my stomach problems.

Are you sure you don't prefer Khajiit speak?
