Look for FCOM_Ruin.esp in folder optional patches in FCOM 9.9

it says in the readme to use that for ruin 1.1 or 1.2 but NOT with 3.0..... is that true? i dont want to ruin anything... haha unintended pun there.

Hey all, I'm not sure if I'm necromancing this thread as it hasn't been posted in in ages, but I'm having a pretty serious problem with RTT. So my apologies in advance, and know that I mean no offense. :)

First off, this is a fantastic mod. Seriously. I'm sure you've heard it loads of times, but heck, Ruin is one of the best companion mods out there for Oblivion. But unfortunately, I've been having problems with him recently. Ruin is crashing my game, basically. It all started when I was fighting the wraith at the Mouth of the Panther. He was cut down, but I didn't get the normal message (Ruined-Tail is unconscious). On top of that, he simply refused to get up. Then I tried talking to him, while he was still on the ground. Surprisingly, I could still have a conversation with him, despite his current status. So essentially, I was conversing with a dead Ruin.

No matter. I thought that it had something to do with the quest, so I reloaded a save and sent him home. After the quest, I travel home, and he isn't there. The Summon Ruin spell doesn't work, and I searched everywhere. The Arena, Cheydinhal, home. Zilch. So I think, perhaps he'll appear if I trigger the next point in his quest. Fine. I travel to Anvil to the dead drop and as soon as I take the note, Ruin appears. Which is good. Everything then goes fine, up until after the dream, where the Shadowscale Assassin comes for me.

Everything gets majorly messed up after that. I sleep in a bed, kill the assassin, then I try to exit the cell. Oblivion crashes. I try it with a different load order, same thing. I sleep in a different cell, but no go. So I try disabling the Knights plug-in and everything that has to do with it, cause the readme did report some conflicts. Reload, kill, and yeah, it seems like it's working, which is awesome. Then at the Stronghold, I die. When I try to reload a save, Oblivion crashes. I tweak the load order again and reload, but it seems like the only save game that I can load is before I kill the assassin. Everything else after that, crashes the game. On top of that, now it seems that every game I save is now corrupted. I can't load anything after I kill the assassin.

So help please? I'm really out of ideas. I even tried installing Ruin again, but that didn't help much. It seems that the only time where I can actually save and progress forwards is when Ruin is disabled. I did make a clean save and tried to restart his quest, but after that, my save games still became corrupted. Seriously. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Curious thing is, Ruin has always played nice with my other mods - the whole thing was really outta the blue. :(

I experienced that problem as well... unfortunately, I don't really have anything to say about it... it just went away on its own for me. Crashed two or three times, and then it worked :shrug:

Now that this thread has been necro'd and I'm thinking about it, I was wondering if there was any specific order the Fiend saga should be played in in order to get the most out of the story. I seem to remember you (Simyaz) saying a while ago that the story goes in a certain order, but I don't remember what it was.

I was forced to delete all my mods and saves from my computer and start completely over, so now that I have a chance to play all of your mods again, I just figured I'd ask.

There are no "spcific" order to play it in. But somethings are easier to understand if you completed the other ones :)
I think it should be like this:

RTT
TOFT
Malevolent

you can switch RTT and TOFT if you want to, but Malevolent should be played last.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I can count the crashes involved with this in the 10's, so it doesn't appear that it's just going to go away in my case. After the previously mentioned event occurs, I can't save (causes a crash and the save is corrupted), I can't fast travel (CTD), and I can't just walk away from the Inn (as soon as I enter another cell, CTD). Once that event occurs, the game is pretty much unplayable.

I'll mess around with it some more, but I'm really running out of ideas. It's beginning to look like RTT just is not going to work with my build, though for the life of me I can't figure out why.

I have a problem, your excellent mod is colliding with Hillsborough estate namely the treetrunk
were I am supposed to find the note in Anvil is gone, since I am quite far in the Hillsborough mod
I would appreciate if you gave me the code to activate the note and the assassins attack.

I think Ruined Tail is in love with my horse.

He rides it everywhere, sprinting over to it as soon as we leave the house so that I can't get it first. He insists on following me EVERYWHERE on horseback, chuckling at my expense as I jog across Cyrodiil. He won't even adventure in caves or go shopping with me anymore. He just takes one step through a door, and then flees, deciding that he would rather spend some more time with horsey.

For actual content: This happened as soon as I was given a horse at the priory. If I manage to get to the horse before he does, he will summon his own horse. Also, I just realized that he was waiting to have an important conversation

So the problem is going to stop for a while at least. Is this something I should worry about?

That was hilarious.

I don't think its something you should worry too much about. Try troubleshooting first, like purchasing a new paint at bruma for 500 gold and see what happens. What does Ruin do? Does he immediately develop a love bond with your new horse, or continue on with your old horse? Try killing your old horse and buying a new one. Does that solve the problem?

Little troubleshooters like these might just solve the bestia...I mean, horse problem. :)

Yeah, I'm currently putting my horse to "sleep" via the console whenever I want to do something on foot, which seems to solve the problem. I managed to persuade Ruin to stick around as well, so everything's hunky dory.

Hey all...Is there a way to elongate the amount of time which passes between ruin's desire to speak instances? I know I can just ignore his request for conversation for as long as I want, but then I can't check his inventory, etc. I would appreciate any help here...thanks.

I have a problem with the installment, I have tried to install several times with different
methods but every time I get those yellow diamonds which is very annoying especially
since one part involves reading on a tombstone or something which ofcourse is a yelloow
diamond, I cannot get it to work some help please, by the way goes these under meshes
or textures?

I have a question for the folks who have played this mod.

I am at the stage where

Ruin leaves me to go to the place we first met (Arena) and then take the Blue path (I am guessing the Blue Road to Cheydinhal). He leaves behind his journal etc.


I had given Ruin a lot of good loot to carry and some of my best equipment to wear.
:flame: Bastard left without giving it back! :shocking: :swear: just kidding
My question is whether he will carry my equipment too and I can see it when I meet him next? Lol, that was some awesome loot he was carrying... :mad:

I'm pretty sure he'll still have the stuff you gave him, but some of it might be there some might not. Best to reload a save if the stuff is gone and take it and then have him run away.

Apparently a lot of people have been experiencing that problem. It happened to me, but then I packaged the entire archive into an OMOD, and then it worked (it also makes it easier to uninstall if everything goes pear-shaped).

Hey all...Is there a way to elongate the amount of time which passes between ruin's desire to speak instances? I know I can just ignore his request for conversation for as long as I want, but then I can't check his inventory, etc. I would appreciate any help here...thanks.

I've seen one of the problems I had cropping up for other people. Yesterday I managed to find a solution to it. It's not the best solution mind.

If you're crashing trying to leave the Battered Dragon Inn with Ruin...

Spoiler
- Wake Ruin up. When he starts to run out follow him until he leaves the Inn. When he leaves go into your console and type "coc TestingHall" (without quotations.)
- When in the Testing Hall, leave by the door that says Hawkhaven. Then fast travel to Weye and talk to Ruin.


When I did this it didn't crash for me. I'm wondering if there's a script on the door?

If you're crashing trying to fast travel with Ruin for the first time (after the Battered Dragon Inn)...

Spoiler
- Take Ruin down to Weye and tell him to wait.
- Fast travel to a city by yourself.
- Fast travel back to Weye and tell Ruin to follow.
- What I did here was I fast travelled to Weye with Ruin, then Wawnet Inn, then the Imperial City Stables then finally the Imperial City Talos Plaza District. I fast travelled to all of those locations to make sure it WOULD actually work ok and it worked fine. Then when I fast travelled elsewhere, Skingrad for example it was fine.
