Rumours - werewolves confirmed by the man himself

Post » Sat Jun 25, 2011 7:19 am

Whatever you say man, I'm not going to argue about this any further. As far as I'm concerned however, Nords are Nords.

Anyway, Werewolves... yeah it would be fun, I've not played Bloodmoon yet so I don't know what the werewolf feature was like but if it was implemented properly it would be fun, hopefully more fun than being a vampire was in Oblivion.

In Bloodmoon you turned every night, lost access to all your equipment and items, and could only attack things with claws.
You could runs super fast, jump super high and rip nearly anything to shreds.
People usually ran from you in terror, and anyone who didn't run usually died pretty quick.
You absolutely had to kill one NPC every night or suffer an unpleasant penalty in the moning, and you had to put all your clothes and equipment back on manually.
If anyone saw you turn, either to or from werewolf form, your reputaion was pretty much ruined, I think peple would hate you and you'd get a bounty for all your savagery.

Oh and there was a really interesting quest involving witches and human sacrifice if you wanted to break your curse.

So, yeah, being a werewolf is fun :D

Sounds good so far, I really need to get back into Morrowind, I never completed Morrowind's Main Quest coz I killed everyone at the Dren Plantation which stopped me from completing the quest where you need to convince everyone that you are the Nerevarine/Hortator, I couldn't be bothered starting again.

While I'd like to see werewolves in Skyrim, I'm not going to assume they're in unless it's officially confirmed they are. "Someone" saying Todd Howard "confirmed" they are in doesn't count, only if we know it comes from a reliable source does it count, and, well, this doesn't. So while I'm not completely certain that werewolves are out, we certainly have no confirmation that they're in.

Anyone in this pic look familiar to you?

looks like a Dovakhin to me, oh wait... is it a viking?

And you see, that's exactly what we mean when we say "inspired", yes, Nords are heavily inspired by Vikings, and Akavir is inspired by Oriental cultures, and Imperials are inspired by Romans, but they're still seperate entities that exist in a world seperate from our own, and while the similarities to their real world inspirations cannot be denied, they do not have to be identical. Bethesda can deviate from their sources of inspiration, and they do, I've never read about Vikings having magic voice powers and I know for a fact that there are no snake people in Japan. So there you have it, Nords are heavily inspired by Vikings, but that does not mean they aren't allowed to be difference from them.

I'm not arguing about deviation from the source material. I like knowing and identifying where ideas come from.

Saying they're like fantasy vikings is totally appropriate if you're trying to explain to someone who's not a TES lore-buff, imo.

What puts me off is saying "ther Nords not Norse, get it right, noob" this sounds pompous to me.

Anyway, I hope that the werewolves (if they do show up) are as complex as they were in Bloodmoon.

Why would an NPC (who happens to be a werewolf) have wierd eyes when he/she is in their natural state? I didn't think Lycanthropes looked any different than normal people while in regular human form.

1. Werewolves are in Norse culture. They are called Varulfr or Varulv. Associated with Odin and the Bare-Sarkar. They are also in French, Native American, African, South American, and basically any culture that has had contact with wolves.

2. My concern is that they include as a kind of... I hate to use a term like this, because i don't think it quite grasps the idea, but "throw away" feature. Something quick and dirty they included because it was expected of them. I remember in a Bloodmoon interview someone said something to the effect of "We wanted to give werewolves their own expansion because we really wanted to do it right".

Unless they make the werewolf mechanics proper, make it really a different sort of experience from base Skyrim, I don't think I want them to include it. I'd rather wait for dedicated DLC or something where, as with Bloodmoon, they can "do it right".

Oh right, Bethesda mythological creatures are different from real world mythological creatures. I forgot that little detail. Sorry!
