No Run Seems impossible

Post » Sat May 02, 2015 7:19 am

Summary: when pressing the key assigned to turn on/off run mode, the game will start to initiate the run but then return to walking pace; different keys have been assigned to Run with no change in outcome

Background: I’ve been using computers since 1987, playing/modding Morrowind (on & off) since 2003, now using Steam version due to loss of CDs in trans-Atlantic move, recently gave MGSO 3.0 a try [and am very impressed!];

my sys specs:

OS: Windows 7 Pro, Service Pack 1 Build 7601

System Type: x64-based PC

Processor Intel® Core™ i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

Video: AMD Radeon HD 6570

BIOS Version/Date AMI 7.05, 5/18/2011

SMBIOS Version 2.6

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB

Total Physical Memory 7.98 GB

Available Physical Memory 5.30 GB

Total Virtual Memory 16.0 GB

Available Virtual Memory 12.9 GB

Actions taken thus far:

1. complete uninstall/re-install of Morrowind in existing directories, problem persists with brand new vanilla game and zero mods

2. complete restore of game drive from a disk image taken prior to the problem occurring, problem now happens with games that were working fine (a level 76 character)

3. looked through all of my program/user/windows folders for some kind of profiles file, no luck

4. did system level search (3 physical/9 logical HDs) on Morrowind but didn’t find anything that could be doing this

Any suggestions regarding what could be causing this will be much appreciated; thanx in advance for your time & help.

The key binds are the following:

Run (default: Tab). You must hold this button to Run (non-default movement speed).

Always Run (default: Caps lock). This toggles between Walk and Run, as the default movement speed. (Doesn't make the player move).

Auto Run (default: q). Hitting this button makes the player move (default set speed) and you won't stop until you press the key again.

Keep in mind, if you press the Always Run button and make Running the default speed, then the Run bind will make you Walk and not Run.

If you still aren't experiencing this, then you might have a problem with your keyboard.

Noihagger- thanx for the prompt response; I was also suspicious of the keyboard which is why I tried assigning different keys to the run toggle using in-game options – it didn’t change behavior – and am using the keyboard fine in normal productivity apps (Word, Excel, etc.); I suspect the only way to definitively determine if the keyboard is at fault is to swap it out but that means finding a QWERTY board here in Belgium where AZERTY is much more common …
