Running DX11 enabled "resolution undefined"

Post » Sun Jul 22, 2012 7:17 pm

Can anyone help with fixing this issue?

I enabled DX11 in Crysis 2 and the game starts up in a small window.
The issue seems is in the game menu Resolution is Undefined. there is literally nothing (no-numbers) there and i can't change it. DX11 mode is ignoring the settings in config file in the game folder.
DX9 mode works fine.
Enabling full screen in DX11 doesn't help the picture just looks super warped.

Is there file i can edit too fix this issue?
I am running Windows 8 but didn't think would be an issue.

In C:\Users\\Saved Games\Crysis2 there should be a file called game.cfg that crysis2 overwrites as system settings change.

The relevant part of mine looks like this:
Code:
-- [Game-Configuration]
-- Attention: This file is re-generated by the system! Editing is not recommended!
r_Driver = "DX11"
r_fullscreen = 1
r_Height =1080
r_Width = 1920
sys_highrestex = 1

You can edit this file to your liking, but must set the file attributes to read-only (by right clicking on the file) for your changes to stick. This may be a good starting point... something is glitched, though.

I tried it but it had no effect. There is some thing about how Crysis handles DX11 rendering for the game is not compatible with Win8. I even used backwards compatibly mode on Crysis. But its OK I just finished the game and DX11 isn't that much better looking. I'll just get Crysis maximum and get some crazy config files.

Interesting about Win8

I think Win8 is the issue here. It's interesting that Crytek HAS to eventually release another patch because of new hardware and software that needs support (Win8, Ivy Bridge...)

I've never heard that Ivy Bridge would have problems running software. But, even Counter-Strike 1.6 and even Starcraft can run on Windows 7, so how come this fairly NEW game would NOT run on Windows 8.

And I don't think there will be a patch, even under extreme circumstances.

In the game folder rename the file CryRenderD3D11.dll by the file CryRenderD3D9.dll and CryRenderD3D9.dll by CryRenderD3D11.dll. Tested and Works on Windows 8 Preview 64 bit and Graphics Card Gainward GTX 570 Phantom… Sorry for my bad English (I'm not sure you typed everything right) :D

Well duh, of course it would work(swapping dx renderers). I've done this before, got artefacts.

I'm having the exactly same issue, running Windows 8 Consumer Preview Build 8250.
With DX11 enabled the game turns into a horribly warped resolution in fullscreen then into some weird 72:9 looking aspect ratio in windowed mode.

Very confusing.
I'll try TheLastSpartan91's suggestion and get back to you.

Anyone got an answer for this issue yet?
Really feel like I'm missing out without DX11 T~T

Did TheLastSpartan91's method work for you when you tried it? I am also having this problem with this game and windows 8, but it is weird because I can run Arkham City in dx11 fine with no problems in windows 8.

The game still looks good in DX9 but I want to see it in 11, however Crysis 3 is coming out next year after windows 8 will have officially launched and will run the same engine and DX11 so hopefully at the latest, by that time the windows 8 DX11 issue will be sorted, or someone will have found a work-around, everything that I have tried with cfg files has not worked so far

I have talked to ea they were no help, they just said they would pass along the information to the devs and I emailed crytek and have yet to hear back. It you want to see an example of a beautiful game running dx11 on win 8 with no issues I just double checked and both arkham city and deus ex human revolution are working, but I don't know it seems like a lot of devs are giving up on pc I may have to switch back to console gaming, there just isn't much dev support in the pc realm anymore it seems

I guess Crytek is busy working on the third installment they are leaving 2's support to the dogs. Hopefully discussion of the topic in their official forums gets it some attention.

Have we still gotten nothing on this? I just bought the crysis pack on steam's summer sale and was upset to find out that directx 11 doesn't work for this game in windows 8.
