Running on extra-low specs

Post » Thu Oct 08, 2009 12:59 am

Hi. I've just installed Oblivion on my laptop, which isn't that great. (And no, I've been a member of this community for years so no fishy sticks please. :P) The game runs very nicely at highest settings on my regular computer, but I'd like to bring Oblivion wherever I go. The things is, the game lags quite a bit even of the lowest possible settings. So... I've heard people talk about "Oldblivion" and decided to download it. It was a very small file, and my Norton immediately thought it was a virus. Should I run it anyway, or are there other mods or tweaks which may lower the graphics even more and improve performance on my mediocre-specs laptop? Thanks in advance. :)

What specs does your laptop have? And Oldblivion isnt a virus, its a file that fakes the game to make it run on low end hardware, something that the AV programs dont like.

Norton, and various other virus scanners, don't really care for oldblivion, but, that is simply because of the way it works. It is perfectly safe though. Give it a shot, see what happens.

What are the specs of your laptop?

Oldblivion is your best chance. That laptop was not meant for games at all. (Also your video chipset doesnt have 1326MB of memory, it probably has only 64MB of dedicated memory and it leaches the rest from your physical RAM)

Yeah, that's probably it, I was a bit confused when I read it. I know it's not meant for gaming but it can take most other games on lower graphics so I thought I'd give oblivion a shot. Right now having trouble with Oldblivion, when I click the Oldblivion launcher, I CTD, it says it's stopped working and then nothing happens.
