Running Fallout 1 Windowed?

Post » Mon Jun 14, 2010 12:14 pm

Is there any patches or options to run Fallout 1 in a windowed mode? i want to keep an eye on my PC's temperatures (we're still trying to find a time to have my video card's faulty fan replaced and that small oscillating fan i stuck behind the video card vent has only cooled it so much) whilst i play. i have the GOG release, if that matters.

If running a twelve-year-old 2D game changes the heat profile of your computer, everyone should be allowed to point and laugh. :P

http://www.brothersoft.com/d3dwindower-238977.html is the commonly used method on No Mutants Allowed to get Fallout and Fallout 2 to run in windows. I don't use it myself, and I don't think it's 100% user-friendly, but it's better than nothing.

Now then, how do i work this thing...? i've added F1 to the list and hit start after selecting FO1, but nothing happens! The UAC window comes up, i hit allow and then nothing happens!

Edit: Bah. D3DWindower doesn't like Vista.

EDIT: Well, F1 probably won't overheat my computer but for one thing, i like my games windowed, and for another thing if something DOES happen, i can force quit before my computer overheats. Damned faulty GPU fan!
