Running Skyrim on Mac dual-booted Windows 8.1

Post » Sat Dec 24, 2016 1:35 pm

I'm brand new to all this, so help is super appreciated. I've been having issues with playing Skyrim - it'll go through the startup screen and I can start a new game, but the graphics won't go past the title screen. The audio starts into the storyline, but the visuals stay on the title screen.

So I used VMware to dualboot Windows 8.1 to my Mac. I've allocated about 10 GB RAM and 4 core processors to the partition, as well as all of my graphics card. I don't know why it won't go any further, and I've lowered the graphics being used by Windows and the game as much as I can.

Thanks!

What mac are you using? Desktop? Notebook? This VMware? http://www.vmware.com

Can you post a dxdiag? https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

Post in spoiler tags. In the edit window, click the green and white button which is to the left of the Font dropdown box. The special bbcode button.

Select spoiler from the dropdown and paste the entire dxdiag report in the textbox.

Also have you installed any mods? Is this original Skyrim or Skyrim Special Edition? Have you done a game cache verify?

You may also consider trying bootcamp instead of VMware. It will allow you to run on the native hardware without an added sotware level.

VMware only supports DirectX 10/OpenGL 3.3, so if you trying to run Skyrim: Special Edition, it isn't going to work. period.

I strongly recommend that you heed Jasper's advise and use Bootcamp to create a Windows partition and load necessary drivers. This requires that you have a copy of Windows and its license key.
