Yeah, absolutely; I've never found any reason to not keep UOP, USIP, and UDCP in my load order at all times.

You don't have to use them though. I don't use them myself. There's one thing that's changed that I don't like for some reason. I forgot what it was, but it made me not use it. I'll have to re-read what is changed again though to see if what had averted me is still relevant.

Cool thanks man, I'm waiting on the new TIE version, I've been playing around with Wrye bash and BOSS and other crazy stuff from a guide. I'm just modding the game around and having fun doing that without even starting the game :).

Maybe I should just start playing it for once.

Should I use deadly reflexes too?

Ha, I'm one of those that began modding even before I loaded the game up the first time. Modding is what brought me to TES4 anyways, not the actual game. LOL.

Use of DR is entirely up to personal preference. If you want to decapitate a person in slow motion, this is the mod for you. I think you can slash a person's midruff too for entrail spilling. And yes, actual entrails do come out. There's a couple other features as well that are pretty nice. I don't use it because of the gore, but a lot of people love it.

There is also an upcoming Unnecessary Violence 2, which is going to be awesome. And some of the features in it will be very ideal for thieves/assassins.

Haha, yeah, I started playing Oblivion simply because I enjoyed Morrowind on the XBox, and then modding took hold and I certainly spent more time after that messing around in OBMM, Wrye Bash, and all those things than I did playing from that point on :P To be totally honest, I am entirely sick of Oblivion and at this point I'm just holding out for the next game with this kinda modding community (Dragon Age just had to go and get my hopes up :P)

So I'm playing with all these mods

TIE
Guard Overhaul
Stealth Overhaul
Thieves Arsenal
Tamriel Travellers
Snipesneakskillup
Bank of Cyrodiil
Vaults of Cyrodiil
Thievery in the Imperial City.

and wow does it make it hard. Right after I got out of the sewer (after dying a handful of times) I went to the first "dungeon" and had my ass handed to me. Maybe I'll go around the city and take on the main quest line first :).

Just some food for thought, and I realize being new to this you won't want to be doing anything drastic to change this yet but the OMOBS weapon system used in OOO and FCOM increases weapon damage in general, which coupled with Sneak Attacks and good stealth-stats make guerrilla combat extremely possible; you can snipe that bulky bandit very quickly and take out his friend before he gets to you. In general you want to realize that stealth characters want to avoid getting hit more than land a lot of hits, and as such dealing quick, instant damage is very helpful; you'll still be just as challenged by other archers and mages, who utilize the same tactics, but it not only makes stealth invaluable (first blow is important with higher damage), it also lowers melee combatants on the food chain.

I'm not telling you you should jump on an FCOM install now, I'm just noting in general that this is useful. If I recall a mod was released recently (last 2 months) that uses script to double all damage done to or by an opponent. This would probably be something worth looking into, and also something I should list :P

Also worth noting; along the same train of thought as what I was talking about earlier, I feel making arrows and magic bolts faster (via Bashed Patch there is an option to do so, I believe) is worthwhile, but you may feel like melee fighters are underpowered then, so it's your call.

I hope that may prove helpful!

At the 10 hour mark of my last game I was a pure stealth character (Agility + Speed, all of their related skills and Blade on a Wood Elf) I hadn't died once, and had already done the first few SI quests and wondered a good portion of the map, and that's with all the mods you listed installed (except Thieves' Arsenal) AND a full FCOM setup. I'd like to think it's simply because I'm awesome, but really it's just application of the tactics forced on you by the engine, which I feel are more well balanced with higher damage.

That made me laugh. :frog:

Alias, don't forget to hide away from the enemy eyes if a stealth strike doesn't kill them the first couple hits. I think Stealth Overhaul allows this a little, but there's also several others that might do it better.

Thanks guys,

I have noticed that I was able to rehide after an attack :).

I just joined the thieves guild and have been happily going around robbing the good folk of Tamriel. One thing that upsets me is that I don't know how pickpocking really works, I'll be in stealth and no one will be watching me then I pickpocket someone and blamo a guard runs out of no where!

I'm at work now so i'll have to play some more tonight and figure it out.

I still have issues pickpocketing and stealing from peoples houses. Guards always seem to come after me even if my stealth icon is showing and no one is around . . . blahhh so frustrating.

Pickpocketing isn't guaranteed to work in stealth, it just will never work if you're not in stealth. There's a formula based on your agility, stealth and luck, as well as the weight and I believe also value of the item you're trying to steal that determines if the person feels you lift the item. Stealth simply determines that they don't see or hear you, in essence, but you can never be 100% sure you will successfully execute a lift.

Hm. I just had an idea.

One could edit this formula to be always successful (or at least have a much higher success rate), but then make a second calculation after you already got the item, which would still call the guards on you with the same chance as before, or something.
Advantages: With this system, you'd still get the item even if you get noticed during the pickpocketing. Which is more realistic, because pickpocketing usually involves running away really fast afterwards. Also, it makes up for the fact that pickpocketing really is pretty damn hard, but with a twist - you'd still have to escape the guards. Which is possible if you have installed the right mods.

Would someone here be interested in a mod like this? I think it'd be fairly easy to do.

Yeah, I'd use that (assuming I ever got back into playing Oblivion again); I like the idea a lot, especially in that it would allow a low level / poor thief to get started without doing quests or hunting monsters.

I didn't see my http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29544 mod in your list, so here you go.:D I'm working on an update that will use modified versions of the Hashshashin and Ranger armors by Dimitri Mezieres (with permission). The update will be uploaded to the linked page.

Wow, it's been a while since I was on here. I would like to apologize to everyone for not keeping this up-to-date over the last few months (during which I dropped Oblivion entirely), and also to The Vyper for completely ignoring his last post until now. Anyway, here's the first update of the Fall; hopefully people will still find this list as useful as I think it is :P

You been under cover!

Here is a recommendation http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34675 - it is an improvement on Reneers mod. It makes enemies opaque to translucent when they are sneaking and introduced the idea of stealth wars - if they can sneak better than you then you can't see them, etc.

Thanks mate! That definitely looks like a promising concept.

No posts for the last week

I've decided that I will bump this thread with some frequency, as the whole purpose of the list is to be seen. I'm amazed that I'm not receiving more submissions, as I take that to mean this list must be more thorough than I realized (thanks to all past contribution and contributors). Anyway, as always, if you think anything should be added to this list, or wish to discuss current stealth mods or what should be made, feel free to post here ;D

Thanks for making such a convenient and useful mod list, but unfortunately a good few of your links seem to be broken ... the first two mods I clicked on, Noviere's Gray Fox Armor & Thievery in the Imperial City, are both gone. :(

Hmm, it appears either Planet Elder Scrolls has changed its URL fomat or I somehow screwed the list up during late September. The URL's in my list are almost correct, but it seems that the characters "amp;" aren't supposed to be in them.

For Example, Thievery in the Imperial City is located here:
but my broken link is
~http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1368

I'll have to figure out if just deleting that string from all my URL's will make them work or if I need to actually examine each one by one.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and I'm sorry your first experience with my list had to be so disappointing :P
