Sacked Khajiit Caravan freaking out! PC

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2016 1:08 pm

So I'm playing Skyrim on PC and at the very beginning of the game if you go east of Helgen there is a sacked Khajiit caravan that is only there before you talk to the folks in Riverwood. Now on Xbox everything was as it should be but on PC the bodies of the slain Khajiit are flying all over the place and landing in strange places. Does anyone else have this issue?

No.... but is that why I've never seen it since I started using Skyrim Unbound? I usually start in Whiterun or somewhere and wander into Riverwood before I go toward Helgen. I wondered what the hell happened....

What are you talking about?

Where is this?

Do you mean on the road from Helgen to Falkreath?

Or somewhere else?

Yeah when I was playing on Xbox360 the sacked caravan isn't there any more if you go to Riverwood. What I usually did was leave Ralof/Hadvar and cut across the field to the main road to Helgen. I would then proceed to the small bandit camp on the ledge just above Riverwood and drop off my stuff I got from the tutorial. Then I would go back to Helgen and take the road that goes past Hamar's Shame towards Riften and the Khajiit caravan is just down from where the storm cloak camp eventually pops up just outside of Helgen.

Well, now I know. Though I think JK's Skyrim adds a basket vendor right near there so not sure what will happen....

So that caravan does actually appear? I've only read about it in the strategy guide, which claims that it is there until the Civil War quest line is started and then is cleaned up by the Stormcloaks.

This guide being wrong is not surprising, but a lot of the errors are in the chart that lists all the vanilla ingredients by effect. Ctrl+F doesn't separate between 'Damage Magicka', 'Damage Magicka Regen', or 'Lingering Damage Magicka' very well.

Oh it's there. Discovered it when one of my more roguish characters decided "[censored] it, I'm taking the road heading east instead of going to Riverwood. Everything is normal with it on 360 but on PC as soon as the cell loads, the whole scene explodes! Khajiit and horse corpses land here there and everywhere. One time I found a poor Khajiit lady all the way in front of the main gate to Helgen, closest to Riverwood.

This seems to happen on newer PCs that have really fast video cards, and on old slow PCs. On the fast ones.. due to the high framerate and/or fast render speed, some of the created objects get their physics attributes set early (probably due to modern CPUs/GPUs/APUs supporting out of order execution to boost speeds).. before the game has time to set the initial physics state. The result is physical objects that know how to behave but no idea what motion value to start from...which gives you an object explosion. On old PCs it typically happens due to lag, where some objects waiting for parameters get set into motion early. Same thing but slightly different cause... one because the draw seriously outpaces the game, and the other because the game is lots faster than the draw. You can help limit these physics blowups on the fast PC by capping your framerate or enabling V-sync at a slower refresh rate. Only fix for the slow PC doing that is to reduce it's workload somehow, or just get a faster PC.

.. or so I've been told

Hmmm, thanks for the info! I just built my PC so I'm guessing the suggestions you put forth apply to my system. I'll try it and see! :)

Lol, no prob! It's a good place to get some extra stuff to sell early in the game. On 360 the stormcloak blacksmith is standing around where the stormcloak camp will be, getting the lay of the land I guess. You can sell off a bunch of stuff to him/her if you become overencumbered fighting the bandits.

*Update* PC problem: I downloaded the necessary program that enables me to limit the FPS and I set it to 50. Well it didn't help, I've still got bodies flying everywhere. I'm going to try a reinstall later tonight and see if it was something I did.

There's a Skyrim mod for capping FPS: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/34/?

A framecapper shouldn't be necessary unless someone has been messing around with Skyrim.ini/Skyrimprefs.ini files can't remember which one as Vsync is on by default and that'll cap fps to 60 max.

I've never heard of it either I'll have to go check it out now... thanks OP.

Yeah, you just can't have started the "Join the Stormcloaks/IL" conversations with the respective NPC. For players who follow Hadvar/Ralof that happens right out of the cave. For those who choose to "split up" the conversation doesn't happen until you meet back up with them in Riverwood.

Thank you. I'll give this a try if I can't figure out why it's doing it.

Hmmm. Then starting using an alt-start mod shouldn't have caused it to "break"? If you don't have the convo, and you don't meet either of them anywhere....

You can't talk to Stormcloak or Imperial soldiers either. Sorry I know that is contrary to what I stated earlier.
