Sacrificing Companion Background? plus random poll for enter

did not see any topic so im making one about Companion Lore

i remember in a Interveiw with Todd he mention that they where going to try out more Companions at the cost of backstories for them, now this is my Personal opinion and i think people would agree that Background and lore is a reason why people play RPGs, for the story and ability to make choices. I would Rather have 5 different unique backgrounds, personalities and opinions on the stories much like the Squad mates in Mass Effect (great game) i really dont want dull mercenaries or a silent priest who just wants to aid you on your quest...."or atleast if they dont want to talk about or have a backstory"

My fear is Fallout 3 companions who all seemed to have a awesome background but at the same time in the end of the day they where just pack mules who carried my stuff i dont want that for TES companions i want awesome Heros, badass Mercs like Wrex, pampered mages who always get there way and Priest with dark backgrounds with cool stories
does anyone else feel the same or am i alone? why or why not

and one Q will the companions work like they did in Fallout:NV with a companion wheel?

I think New Vegas had companions at about the point that I'd like to see. No real deep relationships, but they'd still have a personality and maybe a quest or two. Maybe borrow a bit from the buddies in Far Cry 2, if anyone's played that. I'd want more personality and story out of them, but to have them functionally a cross between FC2 and New Vegas would be great.

The only way I'll use companions is if they come off as real human beings with emotions, personality, and a semi interesting back story. I don't want a meat sack that just gets in the way.

I think the way New Vegas handled companions is the best way to go. Though I would like their combat AI to be improved a good bit.

I'll be using a single ax or an ax and a spell, maybe a staff on occasion.

And when you say "most attractive" do you mean sixually attractive or favorite race to play? Well, either way its Dunmer for me all the way :goodjob: . I would say Nords are more physically attractive, but I dislike tall women, makes me feel short. And Bretons come pretty close as well.

yea i agree, but more extreme storyline.
Other then that they are packmules to me, dont even want them in combat because they get in the way

I don't use companions and like to go at it alone. However I'd like fewer companions with a story/background and a quest. This way I can still team up with them to do their quests, and then dump them right after. That's what I did in NV, also I'd tell certain companions(Boone) to wait at novac so I would still have his ability. Id rather companions don't have abilities this time though, unless they are skill related, such as smithing or enchanting etc.

Lol, I actually voted for Bretons. I just found it kinda funny that (at the time) Argonians were winning in the "most attractive race" poll.

I don't use companions... usually
In FO:NV I spent most game alone, but in late game I took Veronica with me (only companion that was interesting to me)

Anyway there should be mix of both- some companions that have background story (and related quests) and there should be mercs that follow you only because you pay for them
(lets just say each week he approach you and asks for wage, if you have no gold to pay him he'll leave you, with or without equipment you gave him, depending on how much gold you owe him- you can talk him into postponing wage for day or two if your speechcraft is good enough)
Mercenaries could have some generic, minor background

No companions for me, I prefer to venture solo. They just get in my way.

Orcs are the sixiest by far, it looks like I'm not alone in that either :foodndrink:

How are they exclusive?

I always wanted the ability to influence a companions leveling in an ES.

If they are including more companions at the expense of their background then they had better not restrict me to 2 companions. I tend to find my favourite companions and stick with them so if we are restricted to a small number of companions then the additional companions will mean nothing to me.

what do you mean by that? choosing his or her skill points or just leveling with you?

I think I'd be more impressed with companions in elder scrolls, if it was possible for the player to have a fight with two enemies at once without it looking terrible.

No companions, please. There are enough dating simulators out there (NWN, DA, ME.....), and I'm getting tired of the mandatory klingons.

I'd like a some sword/magic/whatever champion to search for me and ask that I take him/her as an apperantice. Would fit to my ego to say "U NO WORTHY" and have him/her die fighting a dragon trying to prove worthiness to me.
