R.I.P. Leonard Cohen.
This is sad news. I bought his album Songs of Love and Hate when it came out, mainly because the stark title and the arresting cover photo grabbed my attention. I had heard a few of his songs on Judy Collins albums but he really wasn't on my radar at that point. I listened to that album with a growing sense of awe. I immediately turned the record over and listened to it again, something I rarely do.
I bought his books of poetry and tracked down a copy of his novel Beautiful Losers (which was out of print at the time). I have read and listened to everything he has produced since that day. He has been a part of my life for several decades and I will miss him.
And Songs of Love and Hate is still one of my favorite albums.
This may sound trivial, but I always liked his hats.
After writing the above I googled Leonard Cohen hats.
Go on give it a try, I was surprised.
A true Canadian icon and legend.
RIP
Thankfully, he lived a long and full life, and left us many books and albums to enjoy.
His latest album was released less than a month ago, and listening to the lyrics I can't help but feel he was fully aware it would be his last.
