I sadly changed my mind

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 1:34 am

at the beginning I didnt really understand what all the negative reviews were about, maybe be cause i never played a Fallout game before. Im completely new to the series and I loved Fallout 4, but all of a sudden im completely bored with it and this makes me sad, because somehow i love the game but it feels so repetitive.

I have created settlements, Sanctuary being my biggest with the highest level shops, plenty and plenty of crops for adhesives and huge water purifiers to make [censored]loads of caps. I havent played a lot of the quest yet (I just met the brotherhood of steel and did some quests) but everything starts to feel very repetitive:

- I can build more settlements but why? I have about 200 adhesives and a boat load of caps, so no need anymore.

- The storyline is OK but the dialogue is terrible and i dont have the feeling that i can steer any conversation, even when i tell someone that i think what he/she is saying is [censored], i will get the same result as when i completely agree with them, which is weird. I have the feeling that i can only chose my quest/mission but that the rest of the story is completely out of my control.

- Graphics etc. I play on PS4 (console peasant, i know) but after playing games such as GTA 5 and especially the latest Metal Gear Solid, the graphics and drop in framerates of Fallout 4 are completely unacceptable. I know there is a lot of content in this game but the map is relatively small and the amount of colors is limited, i mean we are not in a tropical environment with lots of colors and grass etc, so to play a game in 2015 and have the feeling that you are in 2005 is ridiculous. Come on people, i see [censored] here defending the terrible graphics, we payed 60 euros/dollars for this game and we are living in a time in which graphics should be gorgeous, even on PS4 and other games have proven this!

Dont get me wrong, there is a lot about this game which i really like, i love the modding, the intense combat even though people complain about the AI. I dont understand why, i am playing on survival dificulty since the beginning and the AI is a bulletsponge but they also play smart. I had an attack where 3 super mutants attacked me at once, 1 was charging towards me with a machete, 1 was behind him shooting at me from cover and a third one was flanking me, which shows that the AI is not stupid.

All in all a good game but it feels repetitive after a while and the system feels dumbed down, like most games which have been released the last couple of years. Maybe its a trend in the gaming industry aswell as the movie industry (i watched Star Wars 7 yesterday, what a terrible [censored] movie!) but it seems that games are getting a little bit too "easy" and repetitive for my taste. Go here, collect that, kills this and come back. I have had this with GTA 5, Shadow of Mordor, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain (big, big dissapointment) and FIFA 16. I just dont really feel challenged with Fallout 4 which is crazy since i havent even finished half of the main quests yet but they just feel the same, over and over again.

So any tips to spice things up a little bit? Because right now i have the feeling that whatever i chose doesnt really affect the game in any way.

Get the witcher 3 and bloodborne if you haven't, and if you have a PC and you're a fan of cRPGs get Pillars of Eternity. If you feel burnt out from Fallout just wait till mods are released and then make your return.

My tip, dont play. You shouldnt have to go on a forum to ask people how to "spice up" fallout 4 so you can enjoy it. Clearly you dont like it as much as you thought you would, move on. Its just a video game.

You don't really have a lot of options for alternative playthroughs that I can see.

Personally, I'm in the middle of my first run with a VATS type: all Grim Reaper's Sprint and Gun Nut and the like. I get through the MQ I might try restarting with a different strategy. A trader/settlement builder for sure (looks like you already explored that one) and possibly a melee monster. I might try focusing on a different companion as well.

Not sure how much that helps, but it's got to be better than the chorus of "go do something else, we don't want your sort around here" :)

[edit]

I'm also looking forward to the CK coming out. The flood of mods is going help a lot. Console mods too this time, so there might be some help there.

I believe the graphics are intended, after all if a all nuclear war did happen, even 200 years later its not going to be pretty. On a technical note these games including the ES games on the consoles have always had issues with game play. FO3, NV, and Skyrim on the PS3 for a while once you progressed into the game there were times you couldn't even play 10 minutes without a freeze up. Not sure about the PC. Alot of people said it was due to inventory, horders like me well into the game have a huge inventory stash. Heck I remember in Skyrim after one of the major patches to help fix the lag and freezing it was noted that they "dumbed down" the graphics, of course that was met with opposition and denial. Playing on the PS4 has been better only had a couple lock ups in over 120 hours of playing. I know its not an excuse , but to me it always seemed the norm with these games I just became use to it.

Well, there really isn't much else to be done but wait for DLC and mods (though as far as i know, it is unknown as of yet if PS4 will get them ). Freshly released BGS games don't have all that much content. I mean, sure there is a lot of quantity, but not that much variety

You can play as murder hobo or murder mayor, but not much else :P

The Dialog has no use at all. Whatever you choose, at the End there is always only one Choice. This makes the Dialog/Dialogwheel just useless. Its just there to get some extra Exp?

I'm in the same boat. I've tried dressing up settlers as raiders(of course there no point, we won't raid). I tried creating new character, except it plays out the same. I've tried to think of ways to be evil, but the only way to do that is to tell people no and be a psychopathic murderer. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of options and alternatives. We may have to wait for DLCs and hope it fixes stuff. I don't know what to tell ya, and I think the people who telling you to move on don't know what to tell ya, either, because frankly, there are no options.

You can try another build(but the game will play out the same).

You can try to ignore stuff or say no(but you will come to a point where you have to say "yes").

I would suggest killing off the Minutemen and the old annoying Preston Garvey, but you can't do that, or playing evil, and you can't really do that either(cept for saying no and murdering folk and hope they not essential).

I guess you could try a Dead is Dead playthrough which may be challenging seeing how the game is so focused on combat(and instant kill enemies like minu nukers and suiciders). You could try a pacifist playthrough, but good luck(and you will have to kill eventually).

I feel your pain.

I have to agree with setting aside the game until the GECK comes out. That way you can mod the game so that it fits your tastes and playstyle. I know there are tons of mods for Skyrim that improve graphics, change combat, add new areas and quests.

I believe Bethesda plans to release the GECK early next year.

I've played and replayed every single Fallout game ever made and in some way loved them all. F4 is no exception however I am finding the redundancy of going to the same places and doing the same quests time after time (thanks Preston) to be way so borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring. On the other hand, I also know this is just the beginning and with tweaks, patches and dlc's, the game will improve even more. To me it's a great start, there are still many variations of the game I haven't tried and Beth did a fine job with the core game.

So OP, I would keep coming back to the game to see what's new and definitely try different companions and style of play for now.

Just call me logical normal tip devoted fan guy! Thank you for your reply Pepe Silvia, maybe you think these are normal tips, but if you read MY POST you can see that i dont want to quit the game im just looking for ways to make it more interesting, so please dont respond anymore.

Im afraid i will have to live with Fallout 4 untill there will be DLC's for the PS4. They told me in the store that there will be and that i can already buy a season pas of 30 euros, like im going to spend that kind of money on something that is not even confirmed yet :D but i guess thats how the game industry works these days. By the way i checked nuemrous reviews on the Witcher 3 and Bloodborne and it seems that they have the same repetitive feeling :(

I will try to play a "different character", but it doesnt feel like RPG if you can not influence the game in any way. And i dont mean buy avoiding NPC's so you dont have to do their quests, i mean by talking to them and influencing the story

By the way, i know GECK exists but im playing on PS4 and all the rumours about DLC's for console make me sceptical about DLC's for the PS4. They say that there will be DLC's and i can already buy a Fallout 4 season pass but are the DLC's and mods going to be the same kind of idea as on the pc? I cant see how i can mod a game on the PS4 to my liking?

Why do people get hate when they tell the OP to move on?

He says himself he is bored with the game and tops that with saying he likes other games...

Go play them.

I personally spiced this game up hugely for myself by playing unarmed on survival.

The first 15 levels are real hard and since I use deathclaw gauntlet I can't use PA, I also don't use companions.

Ofc combat gets easier with levels, but sneaking around exectuing people with cool ass animations is so much fun.

But why are you so desperate to play this game? I really don't understand why you're getting so pissed off at people telling you to play something else. It's just a game.

I miss the small factions from New Vegas, the Boomers, the White Glove Society, the Great Khans, the Ski Lodge, the Bright Followers, the Powder Gangers, the Followers of the Apocolipse, the Kings all of them added so much more gameplay and it feels like their is just a void without the small factions the repeat missions cannot fill.

True, it's not like the game is going to grow legs and run away while playing something else. It is there exactly as we left it until we come back. I have plenty of games that I love, but am not always in the mood to play. I just play something else until my mood returns. It always does at some point.

Because thats what people are when they offer sound advice huh? No one can suggest anything here to make you like a game you obviously do not enjoy, no amounts of tips or suggestions will change that. All any suggestion will boil down to is play the game, which you are bored of. Finish doing your story quests, no it's not exactly winning any awards here with it's quality but it's that or just go do something else. In the end it's your own cynicism that's preventing you from enjoying yourself, none of us here have any control or input over that. Cursing at people for pointing out the obvious just makes you look like a very immature person.

Looks like someone who bought the game and never played the series before and was riding the hype train way to hard lol...Not to sound like a [censored] but you were expecting way to much and don't understand the FO progression.

1.Game releases with bugs

2.hardcoe fans complain it's not FO 1/2

3.People complain about content because they play 300 hours straight

4.Mods come out

5.Most people forget the bugs and lack of so called content

6.100 mods later are enjoying the game

You should probably just put the game down and go play something with less time invested.
