Is it safe to start a new game after 2nd patch?

First I think most major bugs will be fixed eventually so I think I could play along while they fix the bugs.
But I don't want to have applied a new patch and find out the older save games are not compatible any more afterward.
It seems there are no words from Bethesda that it is safe to start a new game at the current stage so that later patches still be compatible to the old saves?
Perhaps everyone should stop playing the game and wait for the 5th patch or so having applied?

Patches shouldn't effect your saves compatibility. All my original exe saves worked right through both patches.

Now, save game corruption from the engine itself in a couple different locations is a problem for some though not all. (I didn't get it with one of the most common culprits. Not to say I wont elsewhere.)

Other than needing to work on upping FPS and micro-stutter removal I have had no major issues. My game does freeze ever so often for up to 40 seconds but if I just leave it be, it comes back and I carry on. It's when I hit ESC or Ctrl+Alt+Del or Atl+Tab it actually crashes. So I learned to just leave 'er be and have had a blast with the game.

Being major issue free it's easy for me to say just play the game but if it does play nice, it's freaking awesome. If it doesn't though, it can be a head banging experience.

I say go for it though.
