Safe Storage Containers?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 2:27 am

Are there any safe storage containers in Jorrvaskr? I love the Companions to death, so I'm trying to more or less make it my home. But I want to know if there are any containers that are actually safe to store stuff in.
Note: I'm playing on the 360 for now, since the PC has been giving me issues and I don't feel like dealing with it.

I mean I suppose I could purchase Breezehome and just use it for storage, but eh. Thought I'd check first.

I bought Breezehome and didn't purchase any furnishings or decorations. I store all my stuff in the chest located in the bedroom upstairs.

Yeah, figure I might just do that. I mean hell, be Thane, buy a house, might as well use it, right?

I've used the furniture for storage. NOT the chests, bags, or barrels.

So furniture as in end tables and dressers and such?

Yep: wardrobes, cupboards, dressers, and endtables. Some of the ones in the whelp quarters are owned, but there is a dresser and I think a cupboard in there that I've used. Just watch for the "steal from" notice when you're looking around. Jorrvaskr has tons of storage.

NEVER store stuff in barrels or sacks. Those are my tips :)

Hm I'm not sure, I use the arch-mage quarters as my home. It would be nice if there was an indicator showing if it was safe or not.

The one on the back wall as you enter the quarters is what I used. However, I do not recall if I was absent fro more than 30 days. I assume it would reset after that time. I know that your quarters at the College will reset and you will loose everything stored there if you are gone for more than 30 days at a time.

I used the single chest at Breezehome for a while, but it stored everything in one category and it was hard to manage things. Besides I couldn't see spending 5,000g on a storage chest. again

Dead bodies found around a certain shrine are good containers. That is rather morbid, but so are most of my characters. Even if you drag them somewhere else and they reset to the shrine, they will still have all of your stuff.

EDIT : I recall CCNA ( the moderator) doing some testing a while back and his findings was that if a container was labeled as "Chest", it was considered to be a safe container and would not reset.

Hmm, some chests do reset, so be careful there. The one in the Jorrvaskr Harbinger’s quarters ate all of my treasure and spit out something like 28 gold.

Here’s a link that explains some things: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Containers. It’s interesting to note that there are some non-respawning types of containers that are safe even in respawning locations (like the dressers in Jorrvaskr: surfaces reset but not the contents), and some individual pieces of usually respawning container types that are safe in non-respawning locations (like the barrels in a player owned house). So in the Winterhold College room the barrels and surfaces will reset, but inside the furniture should still be safe.

I think I just sprained something. This is why I usually end up buying a house.

If you are Harbinger, the small end table next to Kodlak's bed is a unique container which does not respawn, so it's safe.

No. There are no safe containers in Jorrvaskr other than the one Abrinth mentioned. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Jorrvaskr (As detailed in the notes at the bottom of this page.)

Here's a list of safe places for storage in Skyrim. Look at the individual pages to see which specific containers don't respawn. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Category:Skyrim-Places-Safe

Anise's cabin which is pretty close to Whiterun has safe storage only in the basemant and only in certain containers there (see the talk page on uesp.net for Anise's cabin for a detailed assessment of the storage.) Her house make a decent "starter", but you have to
Spoiler
break into her cellar so she attacks you to get it.

And be warned: if you steal anything from that location, hired thugs will pay you back for it. Which can svck for a low level character.

Edited (twice!): mistake; brain missing. Very, very missing.

Yes. Grits, my dear...you are correct. The USEP is, and should be, a well trusted resource for information.

I understand what you mean with the College, but if my memory serves me correctly, and there is a very slim chance of that being possible, I lost it all. Even the stuff stored in the furniture.

The more I think about it. I would be careful about anything other that a player owned home. Again, Grits is right and the OP is, as well by investing the 5000g in an insurance policy.

@Grits : :cookie: Have one of my...special cookies. They are wonderful for relieving strains and stress.
