I am trying to determine if I want to purchase a house, or use free safe storage as my 'base' of operations. Has anyone used Helgen as a base, and what do you see as the pros/ cons?

If you are seriously looking for REAL long term "safe" storage, I suggest you open up the Creation Kit (or get someone with the PC version to do so for you) and look at the containers in question.

From what I have seen, not all containers re-spawn contents on the full game cycle (tho I think they should...maybe I'm just mistaken).

Not saying I fully understand how "safe" containers work but if you are serious about storing all your stuff like that, you might want to look into it a lot closer.
