Saints Row 3 is GI's next cover

Post » Fri Dec 03, 2010 1:31 am

Some details I found on teh internetz
-Just as I predicted Saints Row III will feature Customizable guns for the first time in the series, you can add sniper scopes to your assault rifles, under-slung grenade launchers, You can also add a third barrel to a double barreled shotgun to create the Gravedigger.

-Just like acquired cars, upgraded guns are now a permanent feature in your arsenal. So don't worry about losing your weapons.

-Players can call in laser guided air-strikes at all times, the explosion disintegrates enemies. Players can also call in a Predator drone, the view becomes top down and you can pepper the area with bombs, or use a smart bomb which you guide with the anologue sticks.

-cars now deform more realistically

-Remote control gun shoots a bug that allows the player to control any NPC vehicle much like as if the player was driving it themselves. Hilarity ensues with this tool, for example you can control an enemy gangs car and purposefully ram into the police, watching the confused driver get chased by the cops is hilarious.

-Meleeing with a weapon close to an enemy = LOW BLOW! NUT JAB! Stiff jabs to the crotch all round.

-LB button is a sprint button, and also a modifier button, it amplifies almost anything the player does, for example sprint towards a car and attempt to carjack it, instead of opening the door and pulling out the driver, the player can performs a missile drop-kick right into the drivers seat, run from the side and you'll break through the window and the passenger goes flying out the other side...awesome stuff.

-If you prefer to carjack normally, the camera now zooms in as the player shoots the passenger in the face at point blank range, or repeatedly bashes their head with the doors.

-dedicated grenade button. Very nice.
-No more eating to regain health, health now regens. very reasonable for a game like SR.

There are also some RPG elements, with perks and other upgrades. What used to be Respect is now XP.

Sounds great. I loved Saints Row 2, I'll definitely be picking this up. It's the kind of game where "button -> awesome" is actually fun.

This game is going to be awesome. Customizable guns and a RPG feel to top it off. Definitely a game that I should save money for.

Sounds pretty good. The graphics seem to have improved a bit from that screen as well, in SR2 everything looked really plasticy, although the particle effects and water were good.

I got this issue the other day, pretty great issue. I love opening up game informer each month to the mail section and reading about idiots who threaten to cancel their subscription if Game Informer's opinion about (Insert mediocre game here) doesn't change. :D

I Found the first two saints row games to be so far behind in times, There is a difference between making over the top games and incredibly crappy over the top games. Don't get me wrong they where ok games but they need to update the engine, I haven't read about the 3rd one but I hope it keeps all the over the top goofiness but adds some realistic physics and graphics in.

Yeah, I'd like the graphics to be a bit more realistic, but not totally grey and brown like GTA IV.

Oh man, I can't wait for this game. Until then, I'll play SR2 to past the time and sell GTA IV (haven't touched it for a while and I'm tired looking at).

I agree. Before I used to be an elitest citing GTA as 'fun AND realistic' but GTA IV pretty much went from fun to 'ehhh, it was okay'. I wish it didnt take them 1 base game and 2 DLCs to realize dull tones in a game make the world kind of bleak to look at. BoGT was the first GTA IV story to have more color in the game.

With GTA taking a more serious route, -for the better as far as I'm concerned- it's nice that Saint's Row is the complete opposite of that and kicks the ridiculous levels far further than GTA ever did. I'm really excited to see how far they push it in SR3. Hopefully my issue will get be here tomorrow so I can read all about it! :D

To be honest now SR has picked up the slack, I won't mind GTA V being serious, I loved GTA IV, and that engine transplanted to San Andreas (again <_<) will be pretty awesome.

Got my issue on friday and read the article. Holy crap does this look like a fun game. The first was ok, the second was fun, so the third should rock.

I know, he reminds me of a Bond villain.

We need an Ernst Stavro Blofeld SR antagonist. That'd be pretty amazing.

The http://www.gameinformer.com/p/saintsthethird.aspx has all sorts of info about the game. Including a http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/03/28/saints-row-the-third-screenshot-gallery.aspx.

It's looking pretty good so far.

I like all the purple standout colors. It's a refreshing change from all the dull "gritty" color schemes that have swept the industry.

Yeah it looks like the game is going to be very colourful. Which is nice, because I'm tired of dark and gritty realistic GTA4. :P
