Sakin the Ash Smith (epic Morrowind diaries)

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 2:54 pm

Here is the first tome of the diaries of an Ashlander blacksmith going by the name of Sakin. His first entries may sound a bit dull and hesitant due to lack of literary skills in the area but give them a try and prepare to get hooked as the dark elf gets caught in thrilling adventures around Vvardenfell. If you liked Morrowind you should enjoy this series as gameplay memories will resurface along your reading. The series matches the lore and is intended to expand it slightly and tell the story of a background NPC created for a TES RPG that I came to like, and to make you laugh, fear, cheer, feel like you're back in Morrowind again!

Enjoy your reading
...and eventually leave a comment for the next parts =)

Sakin the Ash Smith

Book I

of the compilation of my diaries

by Sakin Odinsar-Tibashipal

3E203 Last Seed
This is my first entry in a diary and I’m not totally sure what I should write. I’m not much used to writing but I’ve seen an Imperial scholar doing that and I think it’s nice. My name is Sakin Odinsar-Tibashipal, I live in the Urshilaku tribe on the Nothern coast of Vvardenfell, somewhere southwest of a Daedric ruin called Ashurnabitashpi. Sometimes there are Daedra over there, when there are flame atronachs it helps seeing the ruin from afar during ash storms. ...I guess this isn’t much interesting though. I swear we have fun in the Ashlands, we’ve got some good games too. Quite some require to throw stones in different manners but the rules make it fun. I think ash tossing is the best game though. Beside drinking and whacking mud crabs.

My father is a hunter of the tribe, a good one for sure since he’s about five hundreads years old and still alive. I’m myself about to complete my first century. My mother was a Nord woman from Solstheim and this is very unusual here. I mean to have such parents. A Dunmer and a human. She was a sailor and her boat sunk near the coast during some freak storm. Most of the crew died but she was among the survivors and they made their way to our camp. Usually we don’t get along with Nords but they were very pacific for Nords. My mother needed care for a disease and as she was brave she passed an ordeal to become a Clanfriend. Then she met my father and he got her pregnant so she decided to stay. The tribe didn’t appreciate much their union and its outcome, that is to say me, but we all did our best to prove worthy and succeeded.
My mother enjoyed the life here, she said it wasn’t much different than Solstheim, there was just elves in spite of men, ash in spite of snow and a warmer weather. The wreck of her boat is still there but she is no more. Time is cruel but she lived a good life and I’ll always cherish her memory.

3E203 Hearthfire
I thought that maybe it would be good that I tell what I look like since I am not like the others. So I took a lot from my father, I look like a Dunmer with a fair but perfectly grey skin of Ashlander. I’m tall and strong, that’s from my mother’s side. My hair is quite fair, a fair blond when it’s not too dirty. And for the eyes it seems they couldn’t decide who would give them so I have one red eye and one blue eye. It looks a bit strange so I wear a boiled Netch leather helm most of the time. I did it myself, I’m a blacksmith. I do great with fire magic.

3E203 Frostfall
The wise woman told me I should care about what I write in this diary in case it’s found by an outsider. So I won’t talk about the tribe.
The other day I went to Ashurnabitashpi with Elirabael, my best friend. We found a clanfear and killed it then took its claws. I’ll make pretty pendants with them. I like making jewelry time to time. In the ruin I tried to mine the walls a bit. Elirabael says it’s useless because even if I can cut a piece of Daedric stone off the wall I can’t melt it. I say it must be possible with a fire hot enough. I’ve heard there’s hot fire in Dwemer ruins so one day I’ll take a piece of Daedric stone to a Dwemer ruin and I’ll show them it’s possible.

3E203 Evening Star
It took time but I finally got that piece of Daedric stone! It’s not huge but I’m sure there’s enough to make a blade. Elirabael says I’m crazy but he still came with me everyday. He says it was just because he likes sneaking and backstabing the Daedra but I know he believes in me. That’s how we are. Manly friends.
My father doesn’t appreciate that I spent so much time mining in the ruin and doesn’t care about the stone. He says I’m forgetting the interests of the community because I got late in smithing new weapons and repairing some armors. Actually it doesn’t interest me much, chitin, netch leather... These materials have no secret for me since thirty years ago. I’m bored, I want to do something exciting like smithing a Daedric armor! I’ve seen a Dremora in the ruin once or twice and I wanted his gear so badly... But he was too strong for me. My weapons were great but I didn’t wield them as good. The Dremora was no longer there when Elirabael came... I told Eli the Daedra surely freaked out for he’s a great slayer.

3E204 Dawn Star
I had another rough with my father because I’m late with my smithing. It’s not like I’m the only smith of the tribe though. The best for sure but not the only one. Unfortunately I had been experimenting with Elirabael to distill some liquor out of scrib jelly, ashes and crab meat two years ago... We forgot about it but found the bottle last week. We opened it to taste and we got so damn drunk, I think we might have been in Oblivion a moment, it was just so crazy! And then we got that horrible hangover like the worst hangover ever... And then my father came shouting at me about the smithing and he wouldn’t stop yelling so I punched him and we started to fight... And other people got in the fight... I thought I was a lame warrior but actually I knocked out about the whole tribe, in the end it was just me and Eli fighting each other with no reason. I don’t know what’s gonna happen to me now...

They say I can’t stay in the tribe until I’ve gained their pardon or what. I’m not gonna get that damn bow in that wicked burrial cave, it’s just freaky and I’m not stupid enough to do that! I’m going to Gnisis, I’ve heard there are Dwemer ruins over there, I can surely find a forge inside and experiment on my Daedric stone.

3E204 First Seed
I’m in a Dwemer ruin. I’m scared. It just didn’t go as I planed... I think I got lost, probably because of that ash storm. I walked straight forward until I saw someone, or well I thought... It acted strangely, I hide as it came in my direction but as it got closer I could see it was eyeless... No eyeballs, just one wide orbit hole... I swear it was an Ash creature! I freaked out, I ran, I could hardly see where I was going, I only hoped it was away from this abomination. Then there were other ones, Corprus stalkers dashing to me... I wasn’t understanding anything anymore, I had no more logic, I was driven by primal instincts of survival...
When I saw the ruin I came inside and blocked the door as best as I could, sticking bits of metal here and there... I sat in a corner of the hall, I cried silently and I prayed Azura, I prayed, I prayed!

Azura, let your star shine upon me and may your might enlight my way.
For I do believe in you, Azura, your name I will worship and your will I will obey.
May my foes be no harm for my body, may the ordeals be the rise of my mind.
By dawn and dusk, by the shadow of the moons, please give me the strength I wish to find.
Azura, Azura, Azura, Azura!
