Salem* 'Spoiler?'

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 4:55 pm

I was reading the Game Informer Article and it mentions that Salem Massachusetts will be in the game, I can see this place having a few possibilities...

One of course it the famous witch trials that took place here, I can see somewhere on down the line that there might be a quest or two around an android hunt, and everyone blaming and accusing their neighbors of being androids. The Institute might round some of these people up and so forth...

Another one I'm most excited for is the possibility of a lovecraftian theme in the game, Bethseda has always had lovecraft references in their games, so their is a strong possibility of this area being a bit on the horror side. Possibly. Find a Miskatonic University type place. I could definitely see a Herbert West type quest or some mad experiments gone wrong....

Wasn't the university of Arkham in Massachusets?

Interesting.

Of course all we actually know (confirmed on the Pip-Boy app map)

is that the approximate area of Salem is (just) within the map boundaries.

It may simply be a burnt out ghost town...

Unless Salem has clear Lovecraftian homages/general spooky+paranormal+nightmare-inducing fear, then I won't ever visit it. C'mon, that would be one of the biggest wastes of opportunity if they just had Salem be a little town overrun by monsters. >:[

I'm not sure what Salem is known for exactly, but this sounds very interesting. Does anyone know if Danver is in the game? I've read about a Danver Hospital that also has Lovecrafitan themes and it was once an insane asylum. I would love to see this in the game.

I'm checking into it now.

Edit: Okay, I was not familiar with the history, but it seems like something I've heard about before. In particular, a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode comes to mind.

I'm really hoping they do something with it. Something creepy, something not entirely explainable. With mysterious characters. And fog.

Fallout is a retro-futuristic, sci-fi game. Paranormal, lovecraftian things don't belong here. They tried with the Dunwich building in Fallout 3, and the whole thing turned out absolutely ridiculous.

Not everyone is American or needs to be aware of your history.

That being said my flabber is somewhat ghasted at someone not hearing about Salem, I mean really.

MA is Lovecraft territory, I would be surprised if there wasn't something in FO4.

It would be hilarious if we would be able to judge some locals as synth.

Local: I am human...bob we have been friends since childhood. You must believe me.

Judge: calm down good man. We are just hearing testimony of this fella and i am sure this was just misunderstanding.

Player: Burn the toaster!

Judge: Burn it.

Local: screw you guys.

What is this 'Salem' you speak of Some type of food? :P

Now that I think about it, it'd be too easy and predictable for Bethesda to pull a retro Salem Witch Trials, only this time it's the Salem Synth Trials.

As someone that lives smack in the middle of downtown Salem, I was beyond pumped to see it mentioned as an "anchor" location in the "Making of Fallout" article.

A couple quick notes regarding Lovecraft. Arkham is Lovecraft's fictional name for Salem. Arkham Asylum is based on Danvers State Hospital which is several towns over. In the time of the Witch Trials, what is now Danvers was part of Salem, and is where most of the action actually happened.

The film Session 9 as actually filmed in the abandoned hospital prior to it becoming condos several years back.

I hope so, I enjoyed the Lovecraftian undertones present in Point Lookout. It'd make for a great Fallout 4 DLC, to revisit the lore of Ug-Qualtoth and its worshipers.

I'm not going to post any possible spoilers but I did see the list of locations for FO4 and I think we will see something related to Point Lookout.
