PC Sales figures including Digital Download

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 11:32 pm

There are some often-quoted C2 sales figures that have PC sales at 14% with xbox at %57 and PS3 with %29. People then (rightly) point out that these PC sales dont ever include D2D. Well, EA released their Quarterly financial statement in early May claiming Crysis 2 sales of over 2 million http://investors.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=574530

So, using this: http://www.vgchartz.com/yearly.php?reg=World&console=&date=2011&maker= some guessing can be done. Now, the EA report was from week 6, and the vgChartz data is from week 8, but the sales curve had likely already flattened before week 6. So, what the hell, we can estimate:

2,000,000 total units roughly,
Xbox 793,392 (or %39)
PS3 at 541,718 (or %27)
and PC 664,890 (or %33)

None of this is worth much in terms of real PC market influence on Crysis 2 decision making, but what I get comfortably from it is a 40/30/30 sales spread. Thats alot different than 57/29/14.

Although Xbox may have more sales, PC is not far behind so it WINS!

Well, more profits come from PC games via digital, so the PC will have made the most money, that's for sure.

Pity crytek made such a piss poor PC game.

Wow, I didn't knew PC did so good in Crysis 2... Btw. Crysis 2 is on the 1 place in Xbox sales, and 4 place in PC sales (for now).

You have to remember that it said sold MORE than 2 million so I'd say a 35 35 30 split more likely. In terms of profit, probably PC by far.

VGChartz doesn't even include Amazon sales. Plenty of console gamers buy games from Amazon.

And considering only 500 ppl are playing this game on Steam right now I don't think Digital DLs were that high. I think PC sold ~450,000 copies.

Good points.... PC sales of ~450,000 would be 22%. Not nearly as strong. Is there a more comprehensive source for console sales data other than vgchartz?

DX11 will make a big difference on the sales. Why do I have the feeling this was done on spite in order to cause inflation on C2 sales....

This is wrong.

*2 million is ship? of sale? We don't know. Probably, shipment.
*We can't count digital version.
*VGcharts & NPD... the data is "guess". Not true number.

I can say with conviction, they lost big sales by their stupid acts.
Bad promotion, broken MP demo, no DX11, no editor, unfinished game...

DX11 won't change the game, it just polishes a turd.

If I had my way Crytek would drop C2 and start working on a proper PC game for Crysis 3. PC lead or GTFO from now on. I'm done putting console games in my PC.

And to think, Crysis 1 sold nearly 4 million PC copies, I hope Crytek dies of deficit.

I don't. I hope they make a proper sequel to the original Crysis.

We know they can do it, the original is arguably the best looking game ever made, and it's been out for like 4 years.

Hopefully they'll learn from DICE, and create a PC lead game, which still pushes cosoles as far as they can go without punishing PC players for having better hardware.

Well just checked the Steam stats and a whole 273 are playing it. It did have a MASSIVE peak of 662. I don't have the store bought stats playing, but you can see the game is dieing pretty bad.

Have you guys looked at the YTD Net Cash Flow in Investing Activities of March 2011 versus March 2010? EA really declined in entrepreneurial investing. No wonder Crysis 2 svcked. They needed Crysis 2 released FAST to make up for almost ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR LOSS.

Don't believe me? Read through the whole quarterly report on the first post.

Lol ..

So glad I'm not an EA shareholder right now. I wouldn't be losing money, but at the same time, I would barely be making scrap either.
