Same graphics as skyrim, budget issues?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:12 pm

As opposed to blindly saying the graphics are bad and "aren't updated" from Skyrim, based on some poor-quality videos.

----

And yeah, those "oh, graphics aren't important" posts are bad replies.... not because they're wrong, but because they subconsciously agree with the "the graphics are bad" view, which is crap.

Are there some games with better graphics? Sure. We can't know about the balances in game systems/etc - open world has some costs. People who aren't just mass-generated filler (like they are in GTA/AC) have costs. Having the world full of physics-enabled loose objects has costs. Different engines do different things more or less efficiently.

But still - the basic premise "Any graphics that aren't equal to Current Best, are therefore Bad" is just silly.

No one can "answer a question" because your question is based on a subjective opinion ("FO4's graphics are just like Skyrim's/Bad") that not everyone agrees with.

The graphics don't seem too bad. Although one shot of the environment appeared to have no shadows unlike the E3 version. This is worrying as it makes the world feel horrible and flat. Draw distance is one of the biggest deal breakers for me. I think the issue lies on the reliance on the same game engine.

It's the engine that gives the off animations as seen in the trailers even. The draw distance and lack of shadows is almost certainly an engine problem and the way that it generates the game world.

Since 2002 Morrowind (which I still play) I have been playing Bethesda games.

I am not a "kiddo" I am a 55yo grandma with 3 grandchildren.

I asked a simple question. I did not bash you.

I wait the answer.

They look good to me. If you think it looks like Skyrim then you're too picky, in my opinion.

Before you start calling me a child because I disagree, I'm 23 and play a huge range of games. The graphics aren't anything to write home about but they are an improvement over the past games.

I am 37 years old, and I've been gaming since space invaders on the Atari 2600 in 1982.

I have played ALL fallout games, and Fallout 4 sets the new standard, so I don't have any problem with F4s graphics, I just cant wait for next Tuesday dang it!

What I would really like is for bethesda to take the core gameplay mechanics and graphics engine and package it as a DLC overlay for fallout 3 and Fallout new vegas.

And yes I am an elder scrolls fan too. I play Elder scrolls online on xbox one, don't like it though its like they've torn its heart out, so I hope the next elder scrolls is just a s good looking as F4 is going to be.

Stop moaning, please just stop moaning and wait for at least 1 week after f4s release then you can all review it on this thread.

sheesh Young uns nowadays!!!

I particularly had an issue with the power armor in those videos. The furniture looked absolutely atrocious, but what really bothered me is how the power armor looked like a plastic toy soldier  I've come to accept subpar graphics in an open world, but I would have hoped they'd be at least somewhere close to other open world games of late.

There were HD videos available at one point, but obviously I'm not going to lead anyone or link. Not to mention this was an issue I noticed back in the E3 stuff, but it was definitely more noticeable in the review copy the guy was playing.

I was disappointed by a lot of stuff I learned about Fallout 4 from Bethesda, but I am even more disappointed after seeing the leaks. All in all, I already pre-ordered at a pretty sizable discount, so I ain't going to cancel over that.

I don't think you need to worry about being a younger one in the BGS community. After seeing a study on six and age demographics for Skyrim, there seem to be a very large number of children ages 10-14 that played (I think over 10% or something).

The issue being brought up in the OP is that graphics have not improved very much based on the content leaked. Rationalizing the lack of upgrade by claiming it's okay because PC doesn't help at all either.

I never understood the "It's okay if it's broken, or the content is weak, because PC and mods will fix it".. No. It's the developers job, not the job of modders on a platform that makes up at most a third of their sales.

Right, have you seen skyrim without mods? Im asking because if you have then you can plainly see fallout 4 is updated graphics in every department. Thats not a statement its fact. You cannot argue that fallout 4 has the same graphics as skyrim vanilla.

Now how much of an upgrade vs the amount of a graphical upgrade expected in 2015? Thats an arguement that could be made.

ohh no i dont saying that, i mean lucky or no Game normally dont look the same on console that what u can achievement on PC, even with the new gem games. I agree with u that developers should fix improve stuff and no modder, but for me if i look Vanilla Skyrim and Fallout 4, Fallout 4 is a huge jump on graphics.

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. I just hear that type of argument so often on these forums that I jumped to conclusions.

First of all, people on consoles don't get to complain about graphics. I'm not an elitist (I bought an Xbox just for Halo 5 and wow, what a terrible story), but I 100% blame consoles for any graphics issues or limits on the engine due to poor tech.

I mean, the PS4 is equivalent to... What? A 7870? That's so incredibly laughable when it comes to AAA games. But, nope, PC gamers have to hear the whine because consoles, consoles, consoles. Harrumph.

Witcher 3 @ 30FPS. *laughs*

-

Graphics look great and thematic. I actually find it enjoyable that Bethesda can do A- graphics work but A+ world interaction while giving us mods to make the graphics hyper-realistic.

i think the graphics had to be near the same for versions of this game (pc,ps4 and Xbox1) because

1) the amount of content and things you can do in game plus the interaction with NPCs plus objects it has to all look good and run smoothly with its frame rates with minimal bugs and lag.

2) the pc will have the best resolution because of the power/ interchangeable parts they have so you'll probably be seeing a 4k//8k graphic upgrade via patch or mod.

i play PS4 and recently these last few years i started playing pc to so i don't play favorites when it comes to the whole console/pc war BS so don't think i am.

when it comes to games like fallout or skyrim graphics are not high on my list for "must haves in a great game" and keep in mind i came from and era of gaming where i played 4bit super mario the graphics were awful but the storey and solid addicting game play was all there.

so when i see people crying over games that are not graphicly nice it upsets me because these standards have come to pass in the gaming industry to where a gaming company will give you the best looking jaw dropping graphics in a AAA game but little content and like 8 hours of gameplay and the rest of the game you gotta shell out 20-40 bucks for "DLC" to play the rest of the game you payed full price for (im looking at you destiny and Dragon age).

call me old fashion but when it comes to video games Graphically impressive games are a dime a dozen and most are broken on launch or unfinished and then you gotta pay more for "DLC" to play a finished game after already paying 60 plus bucks for the game itself. so what i look for first is content and lore and a immersive story i can play "forever" something that makes me lose track of time for days and makes me invest in my game character and become emotionally attached to them to the point were i actually give damn if he/she dies.

very few games offer this, but i found that BETHESDA does this and they also take there time with there games and master all details/story and delivers almost pretty much every freakn time the game ends up THE game of the year usually [censored] their competition up the ass with a spiked bat and stealing our life force for years to come with awesome mods & replay ability until they unleash there next epic game. if you dont belive me go look at how many hours i invested in skyrim on steam lol

in conclusion please for the love of God stop crying over graphics THEY ARE NOT EVERYTHING FOR A GOOD GAME don't believe me?? look at halo 5 or the order 1886 or destiny ETC the list goes on did the graphics make you feel those games were worth your hard earned money? instead hold your game creatours to a high standard so they will stop selling us the consumer a broken BS game we shelled out 60 bucks for. instead say "HEY ASSBUTT! IF BETHESDA CAN DO IT WHY CANT YOU?!" because games can look good and carry a memorable epic experience as well

And I'd be perfectly happy if it was. I've played so many "gorgeous" games over the last few years that have made me throw up in my mouth over the fact that all they really care about is how pretty it is. The Order being the most offensive. Battlefield 4, Far Cry 4, every single COD/Black Ops... Even games like The Witcher 3 are given more credit than they really deserve due to great graphics. I love that game and it IS amazing to look at but sitting next to the immersion and function of a Fallout, or Elder Scrolls game, imo, it's not even a contest. Ever notice how, no matter what, Geralts hair is always blowing in the wind. Outside. Inside. Nothing else moving... The tress behave the same way in the slightest breeze as they do in a full fledged storm. And don't even get me started on the whole "Only the devil plays here" thing. It's so awesome to see a commercial where you can slide across the dirt while shooting a tiger in the face... Not so awesome to get that game home and realize that's it. Over and over. Fallout is mine. It's OURS. We are going to shape it and BUILD it, always finding something new, doing something different, and put so many hours into it that it would take 50 of these so called next-gen titles to even come close. We, as gamers, are truly blessed to have it.

It's not a budgeting issue. Bethesda has a full-time team of graphics experts doing graphics. Raising their salaries won't increase their productivity. Also, adding more people to the same tasks won't help, for that would be like trying to fill your gas tank faster by putting more people on the pump.

This, yes Fallout 4 probably looks like an heavy moded Skyrim with lots of extra eye candy.

first PS4 GPU is just 6 times more powerful than the one in PS3.

PS3 graphic is already decent, so improvements will be less visible. its not like going from PS1 to PS2 and everything got far more polygons.

However textures are far sharper in Falout 3 than in Skyrim, lightning and shadows are far better.
Also the 8 GB instead of 512 MB memory is an gamechanger. everything in Skyrim was memory limited. Number of npc notice this during the civil war fights, number of outfits, outfit slots amount of items.

Last its pretty obvious Bethesda aimed a bit low with graphic. full hd and 30 fps on One is not common for graphic intensive games.

This was an strategic decision in the start, they did not know how hard the game would be to run then everything was in place so they aimed low to not having to cut back.

But they already did that and even beyond. Save for the companies with massive budgets, everybody is doing 320x200 8-bit games nowadays. It's as if we traveled back to 1985 with Marty and Doc.
