All games have an original art style. I think a lot of people confuse graphics and art style. Bethesda games are all going to look like Bethesda games.. just because you don't notice what's upgraded doesn't mean there haven't been vast improvements. Most seem to be simply noticing the outward appearance and drawing conclusions based on art style. It's like people dont' seem to realize that these are textured models created by artists with particular aesthetics.
I usually tend to be rather receptive/empathetic towards people's complaints when it comes to videogames. However, with this particular issue, I don't quite understand where people are seeing bad/sub-par graphics. Maybe I'm just not picky but I really don't see much of anything wrong with anything. Then again, I don't play too many videogames these days, so perhaps I've not been spoiled with a lot of "up to date" graphics.
Still, in regards to the physics and animations, I'm really impressed with a lot of what I've seen. I wouldn't have actually expected this much of an improvement, especially considering BGS is known for being a more... clunky developer, for lack of a better word.
there is a clear difference between the engine used in skyrim and now.
evreything is more colorfull and sharper, the graphics are more then just OK.
and you should know that for Bethesda graphics aren't priority number one. Whats te point of making a game bright and shiny, but with no content, im sure some people remember Rage, which was a mediocre title, but evreyone was so excited because of the fantastic "graphics"....
i don't know were to start i seen [censored] low rez sceen caps of fallout 4's floor meshs and they blow unmodded console version of skyrim out of the water so yeah were this "looks like skyrim" stuff is
go fire up skyrim on ps3/x360 and then look at ps4 version and tell me that looks the same ill wait.
also by saying that im glad that they whent with lesser graphics people just don't seem to get that every object being tracks takes huge amount of resources all this "well GTA looks better " forget that GtA V while a good game also has disappearing cars/people/planes in fallout you blow up a car the bits remain not disppearing in 10 secs like TW3/GTA V
The graphics are a bit sub-par compared to contemporary games and leaves something to be desired but it's not that big of a deal.
Main thing I'm worried about is animation quality (which doesn't look great) and from a lot of the leaked footage I've watched the game looks kinda washed out though that might just be the video quality/compression.
Maybe I'm crazy or I'm not looking at what you guys are looking at, but the game looks a lot better graphically than the previous iterations. I think it looks damn good actually. As long as the gameplay is smooth and engaging, then I don't care if it isn't crazy good aesthetically.
I'll wait to see what the game looks like on my PC before making a judgement on the graphics, i won't go just by videos online.
This game looks great, right along with any game out today.
What? In the Trinity Hotel videos, the game looked fantastic. I've been really impressed from what I've seen from the leaks so far.
What? Game looks crisp and the art style is amazing. Even the best quality leaks still don't do the game justice, not to mention the combat is finally good imo.
I have watched the new videos, and this game looks a generation behind other open world games like Witcher3, Horizon, or even AC.
It really seems like it was made for Xbox360 or PS3 but developement took long and they had to retune for the new consoles real fast.
I would like to see a picture comparing skyrim on PS3 and Fallout 4 on PS4.
I think that would change some peoples perspective, just saying
edit: and with that I mean screenshots taken with the games proper resolution and quality.
They look fine to me, people its FALLOUT!!!! I don't get people complaining about graphics, srsly we waited 7 years for this.
Nowhere near Skyrim, way ahead of that. Still, it's not on par with Witcher 3 and the like so people perceive it to be bad. The truth is that Bethesda never launched a game that had the cutting edge graphics of its time. But they were way ahead of their RPG competition so they made a name on delivering RPGs with great graphics. However nowadays more companies followed their lead like Bioware and CDProjekt, so they lost their advantage in being peerless.
I'd like the game to look better but it's still not bad by 2015 standards. What's bad then? Undertale, and it got a 94 on Metacritic yet nobody calls on its 1985 graphics. Imagine Marty McFly arriving and seeing the games didn't change at all since back then, it's that bad.
I did see a five minute footage of the game and I can see the let down a bit. However, when this game compares to FO3 and FO:NV (if E3 and trailer is not enough), there is much more detail in graphics and considering the retro/neo "1950s", sort of speak, I find it acceptable for the latest consoles at least (cannot say for PC for folks on this part).
The game has PBR, volumetric lighting and SSAO. Maybe OBM too? The environmental graphics aren't better in other open world games. I mean, Unity is awful for long distance lod. Instead of realism, BGS went for a retro CG look. It is nice to see that it works so well, we have reached 90s CG look in realtime.
And PBR is huge, I can't stress this enough. If you are interested in graphics, come to PC. The modding scene will turn the game into a realism in graphics showcase in a way that has never been seen before. The graphics will surpass even The Order. I can't wait!
The graphics are actually inline with Witcher 3 let's plays on PS4 found on youtube. Both have compression issues and artifacting caused by that fact.
Compared to my copy of the Witcher 3 on PC with everything maxed Witcher 3 looks just as bland as these videos on the PS4
No offence, but you don't know what you're talking about. The game uses PBR. It's the most accurate looking surfaces you'll see in a video game. The walls "looking like plastic" is either you not seeing correctly or the video quality is terrible. I saw the videos leaked and the quality was awful. They're FAR from "HD" and is chock-full of compression artifacts. Just wait until the game releases then judge all you want.
I saw the leaked gameplay today and it looks great the graphics look pretty much standard, but it's always been this way for Fallout has it not? The gunplay looks really good and there was some more third person viewpoint gameplay which looks like a big improvement on Skyrim's (which wasn't bad btw, i thought it was good).
I've never in my life seen a game that looked better in a YouTube video than it does when I'm actually sitting and playing it. The graphics look fine to me. Not nearly as advanced as what we're becoming accustomed to these days, but I have no problem with that. Fallout 4 is a huge game with an open, dynamic world and tons of entertainment value. Do I wish the graphics looked better? Yeah, kinda. But if making the game look like Halo 5 or Syndicate cut into the budget for building the world and developing the gameplay (which it would have), then I am beyond ecstatic it looks the way it looks and plays the way it plays.
I have my issues with FO4 (emphasis on shooty game play, for example), but the graphics aren't one of them.
The game looks great. It's not The Order but it doesn't look have to. It might not even look as good as the Witcher but Witcher has less stuff that can moved around.
