Same graphics as skyrim, budget issues?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 6:56 am

Before release, there was a lot of people thrashing The Witcher 3 because of its graphics. Now, people are saying that Fallout 4 is way behind The Witcher 3. In a few months, people will be saying that X game is way behind Fallout 4. And the cycle continues...

I don't think there's anything wrong with Fallout 4. IMHO, the game looks great, far better than I expected.

It really looks like it's development began for the ps3 and 360. The developers then revolted, threw Todd Howard in a dungeon. They would not put up with the limited memory issues, never again. Still, the game was largely built around the old consoles. Todd Howard then told the developers to atleast make it 1080P as a compromise for the Ps4 and X1, for the wasted work trying to get it to run on the ps3 and 360 for months. Thats all they need to do. Make it 1080P. In exchange Todd was let out of the dungeon.

Looks great to me, I'm not concerned. Bethesda games always have a visual grain to them so it's probably just that.

That was not in-game graphics.

Clearly it was originally designed for X360/PS3 generation given those looks. Oh well, that's why i get the PC version. My New Vegas already looks better than those videos :hehe:

I cannot help but feel bad for Bethesda.

This is essentially the equivalent of the Louvre finding a never before seen daVinci in their basemant and annocouncing to the world it will display it soon. Someone then sneaks a 5 megapixel camera with vaseline smeared on the lens into the display area a week early, takes a picture (half obscured by their thumb) and releases it to the world. Oh says everyone that sees it, this is crap, its just another Mona Lisa but this time she's giving us the finger. That daVinci guy was a hack. He could not paint his way out of a sack if his life depended on it. A week later everyone else that waited gets to see it in all its glory and gets to decide the merits of the painting on a clear crisp viewing of it.

You cannot make an INFORMED opinion on graphical fidelity based on these leaked videos. They are NOT high quality.

None of the games you mentioned have the amount of drawcalls than games developed by BGS. Simple reason for that is the amount of items that can be interacted with found throughout the world. That comes at the cost of some of the bling bling that other games have.

# Icedrake707.

First i work making textures and 3D models for games, so i can tell u that there nothing on Fallout 4 that look like Skyrim, yeah u get spoil looking at Witcher 3 game, but what u need to understand and most ppl need to get in their heads, what we got on Fallout 4 as "bad" graphics isnt bad, is just on a different level bc of the complex world open world they using, On Fallout they can pretty much grab any item and everything have physic, all that make compromise.

Another think is grab any human from Skyrim choose a armor and put it near any NPC from Fallout 4, u will notice that on Fallout 4 everything is more detail, another example is the robot, how now the eye of the robots move closing and opening, Light on the game is more real, same as shadows, Water reflecting, same as the little details on the buildings and density of it on towns and overall.

Before u go and say that something look like Skyrim first u need to look close to what u watching, bc right now there are nothing that look close to what Skyrim look at release. And agean If u want a game for the graphics go play Witcher 3 or MGS, where u have a old crafting systems and 0 interaction with the world outside the script ones.

If you want sub-par super duper whoopy loopy graphics then go stare at a artful masterpiece.

The graphics for the NPC's are better than ever and as for the world itself it overthrows Skyrim and throws Fallout 3/NV out of the water.

And for anything that looks too "plastic" that's what HD texture packs and mesh replacements are for :D

The simple fact we have been warned not to post images or videos of the game on this forum by a moderator who is asking us to report such violations scares me. Halo 5 just stole $90 from me. I will never pre order a video game again. I still have high hopes for Fallout 4. Twitch will determine whether or not I buy this game and any other in my gaming future. Good luck all, enjoy Fallout 4. I'm sure everything will be fine... I'm just gonna be a bit more cautious with my money.

OMG really???? Witcher 3, Horizo, AC, DA:I All those game have 0 interaction of the player outside the scrip ones, u cant go and move every little item on a house on the witcher since everything is nail down. So before u go and speak about other game at least compare it with game that give u as much freedom. Ohh wait there isnt, that is why Bethesda Open Worlds are the best, bc the freedom the player have to do whatever he want and move whatever he want.

If i compare Falllout 3 to 4 game look crazy better, If i compare Falllout 4 to Skyrim, 4 Still is a huge jump ahead.

So for the love of god go play CoD or AC, or the Witcher and keep replaying the same game over and over. This generation where mark by 2 stupid game that ruin ppl head one was The order at it look more like quick event game. And the other the Witcher 3, that is a good game but have alot of lies, the first one ISNT A OPEN WORLD GAME; IS A MULTI REGION MAP, WITH ALOT OF FREE SPACE......

Sledext, while caution is a good trait in this case, this is normal for Bethesda. They have been policing leaks like this since Oblivion. It is Standard Operating Procedure.

Well what I have heard from people that have played it is that the game looks better than they expected. It looks better than what we have seen from E3. There have been times where they just stop and take in the scenery and the the lighting is the best they have seen. They say the graphics are not "Revolutionary" but are very good.

IMO I would rather they focus on other aspects of the game than having the greatest graphics out there. Graphics don't make the game.

Seriously, man? What's the world coming to?

...

Anyway, what the hell are 'good' graphics, anyway? Are we measuring by their realism? That's a narrow view - game graphics are art, art meant to tell a story. C.O.D. graphics are nice and realistic (more or less) because it's a near future, real world shooter. But nothing in it has any character. Look at Borderlands, though. Beautiful! I watched my nephew play Borderlands and couldn't stop admiring the artistry when I was supposed to be admiring his shooting prowess. But Borderlands isn't realistic.

I think the (actual, in-game) graphics for F4 look fine. They do their job and they are atmospheric.

It shouldn't. It's standard procedure for pre-release times - they don't want spoilers posted in random threads to screw people over.

-----

edit: but yeah, I don't get the whole "those look a gen old"/"looks like it was developed on X360"/etc thing. But, then, I didn't understand it when people said it about Skyrim, either.

(It was pretty funny back a month or two ago, when people were saying "looks just like FO3, OMG WHY!?!?", and people linked them to actual side-by-side screenshot comparisons that showed FO4 was vastly better.)

I thought it looked ok. If this means I'm ignorant I can live with it. I mean, I thought Fallout 3 looked really awesome on the 360. If FO4 improves on that I will be happy.

Budget issues? These guys made like 1.3 BILLION profit just from Skyrim alone. That being said, I don't have problem with the graphics, also MODS.

The game went gold only a few weeks ago, and most of the preview videos are months old by now and those were probably recorded at least a month before they were actually shown. I'm sure a lot of optimization has gone on since then, but remember that the game has performance requirements set for consoles which are optimized, but also there going to be graphical sliders available on PC, so that you can go higher than that or lower if need be if you're running a low end rig.

Also take notice that as we progress further and further with graphical fidelity, the differences in game modelling are going to become more and more subtle. The thing that should really start to take over the next few years is not so much appearance, but engine mechanics, making more and more model movements and object interaction as seamless and as smooth as possible.

I'll take supposed lower graphical quality for better gameplay value and superior world building as a trade to my advantage. I never understood the graphical comparison to other games. There are no other developers that craft a better world or experience than Bethesda in this days market. You could probably insert whatever graphically impressive recent game as an example and it still couldn't hold up due to developers taking the easy route and appealing to the lowest common denominator.

The thing that hit my eye like a needle was the low resolution textures. Now, maybe they'll release a high-resolution texture pack for PC like they did for Skyrim, and if not, modders will take care of it. But few of the ones i saw made check if last nigh was the night we set our clocks back 10 years

Makes me glad I don't have such a "discerning"/picky eye. Just like I almost never see on-screen errors in movies (or the "change reel" dots that apparently existed back before digital movies), I don't watch game trailers/etc and see "low resolution textures" or whatever.

(Took me watching it a couple times & being told what to look for, to see the rock pop-in at the end of the Skyrim trailer, for instance.)

I'm trying to think of another game with graphics close to this good where you may pick up any item and utilize it in the game to build something else. Thus far I can't think of any.
