Same six relationships?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 7:41 pm

Greetings,

Anybody know yet whether we get the above in our romance options? I have been building so much I've not investigated the system.

Most AAA games with romance include same six so I'm hopeful.

Oh and before anybody jumps all over because our characters come married with a child - it is 200 years after the spouses death, it happens in real life, tis an RPG and the more options for people, the better. :)

Cheers.

It'd be a shame if Bethesda gave in to bisixual erasure. However, I think all companions with romance options can be romanced by all genders.

Oh yes. Me and my girlfriend play and we made a female character. (I generally prefer playing as a female for some reason, usually so I can make her some kind of evil smoking hot type). Much to my girlfriends disdain we kept piper as our companion, one thing led to another and well the answer to your question is yes. Now if we could only have a Witcher 3 type romance scene...

Yeah, you can have bisixual romances with all of the characters who are all apparently bisixual.

Or, at least flexible.

The're not (necessarily) bi-sixual, but they ARE hero-sixual, that is, their sixuality is determined by what the hero/player-character wants it to be. And Piper is only one possibility, there are others.

I wonder if dialog changes though. When traveling with Cait she would keep saying (when I spoke to her about 'thoughts') that we'd get a lot further if I wasn't watching her ars all the time. I wonder if she says the same thing if I'm playing a female?

It's exactly the same. Everyone is Protagonist-sixual, and also (mostly) all okay with polygamous relationships.

You won't find anyone straight or gay in the commonwealth, only bisixuality.

Even though the system is weird at least they didn't make half the human followers gay like in NV. The odds of that happening would be extremely remote. The new system is flawed in its continuity. Now everyone is apparently bisixual which is even less likely to happen. What happened to the cigar smoking, alcoholic, womanizing sidekick with a predilection for explosives? I much preferred when they had consistent predetermined characters instead of this adapt to whatever the player wants at any given moment.

Playersixual as they call it. You can even have more than one romance for each character, and there is not really any drama or jealousy. Which i do think is a nice touch, leave it up to the player to choose.

Cait is bisixual or at least heteroflexible no matter what since she suggests a threesome to Piper.

Well Veronica was gay so that it would cause conflict with the Brotherhood. As they are few and dying out and won't mate with anyone else than their own ranks they can't really accept homosixuality. It was an interesting bit to her character atleast with the woman she lost over the ideology of the Brotherhood's stance on homosixuality. I do prefer when they make sixuality a part of the story they are telling with the character though, makes it way more compelling getting to know them. But this system works fine as it is now.

Ehhh, ancient Rome and Greece were the mannliest places on Earth and homosixuality was expected of men in certain parts. Augustus was noted as being the only Roman Emperor to never lie with men.

sixuality is biological but what qualifies as acceptable and conditioned varies by region and culture.

Besides, it's not so crazy when half of the romances are:

Spoiler
Synths.

I figure the Post-Apocalypse world is one where people take six and physical comfort/emotional comfort where they can get it.

Piper is bi. She has a thing for the singer in GoodNeighbor.

Their sixual orientation doesn't at all figure into their character or the romantic narrative with the player at all, so why should it be set? Sure, we miss out on being able to romance misogynists, or characters like Veronica where it actually matters, but I'm happy with the characters we have. And Bethesda's other option to give everyone a fair shake was to have a "diversity parade" like in Mass Effect, which I think is less ideal for good and petty reasons.

That's a minus in my view. The best games are games where the game world has rules independent of the player, where the player has to adapt to the world itself and not the other way around. I want MacReady or Cait to be consistent all the time on every play through. I should adapt to their quirks and wants and needs. Otherwise they are literally just robots and then I start thinking that they are synths and I try to shoot them and they complain about it. I don't care if they had gay characters to romance in fact I encourage it but they should be independent and ALWAYS gay just like the straight ones should ALWAYS be straight. Some of the funniest dialogue in FNV was trying to romance Cassidy as a woman. :P

I agree and Punchy and Doc were gay on every play through. It was consistent which is what I want. I was mostly referring to the statistical odds of just happening to stumble across two out of four followers that were gay in a post apocalyptic world where as you said homosixuality would be frowned upon in many areas. Its not like they even tried to hide it they admit it openly in fairly early on in the dialogue and in Punchy's case almost immediately.

Yeah i mentioned this in my other post. I do prefer it when companions have a set sixuality. I just think this system is fine for what it is. It can be expanded upon later, in either DLC for this game or in TES VI.

The available companions are not designed to be a statistically accurate sample of the entire population. In fact, I can't think of any game where they are.

Also the perks are a problem... A male character can not take Man Hunter, only Lady Killer. And the same for female chars (can't take Lady killer, only Man Hunter). So as a male player I can't flirt or otherwise with any other male chars.

This is a departure from NV.

So Beth sort-of kind-of gave us "gay" romance. It's a half-ass system I think thrown in to keep players from complaining. My hope is that some cool modder will come buy and fix this.

Also, I think the concept of friendship is somewhat underrated in games. Having a character simply not be into you kinda forces us down the other road and in my personal experience can lead to great flirtatious banter that is only meant as humorous. :)

But overall it's not a big deal to me... It's just a personal preference.

PS: And just to makes sure, since people seem to read all sorts of things in between the lines these days... I have nothing against gay, bisixual, synth, ai, eiffel/bridge sixual representation in games. I just feel that a little of all things different is better than all things being the same.

Actually, I think all the black widow (not man hunter)/ladykiller perk does is make the opposite six easier to persuade in dialogue (the perk does not say anything about allowing flirt options). I can flirt with women as a female, in fact, I 'romanced' Piper a woman a few times before restarting.

This part really bothers me. Regardless of who I play I'd only flirt with females so now I guess every time I would have put a point into Lady Killer I'll have to just add a point to CHR instead and hope for the best.

Personally, I prefer it when sixuality matters to the character only if it fits into the rest of their story and enhances the telling of that story - otherwise, undefined/irrelevant/flexible are all nice places to leave them as "default".

This, though, is a thing that has bothered me all throughout the game. I never liked the idea of referring to romance as "more" than friendship, but that's how the companion dialogues treat it... romance and friendship should be on separate (equal in magnitude, different in direction) relationship axes, honestly. Would make things more interesting even from a gameplay perspective.

Can confirm flirt options are universal; the singer at the Third Rail can be flirted with as a female character without any ranks of the perk.

So all social norms are gone in this new world? Everyone will sleep with anyone no matter of gender and no one gets upset if you sleep around even though you have professed your love. Heck why not let us have six with Strong? It certinlly is a brave new world :)
