Sanctuary Keeper Part I

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:59 pm

Tadeesa was tired. She had been awake since the other day after she had slayed a passerby on the road to Cheydinhal. The victim was a very handsome Dunmer, a pleasurable kill for Tadeesa. Tadeesa had been informed of the burning of the Abandoned House, and she was headed in the direction of the Chapel of Arkay. Tadeesa was guessing there were already a few Brothers and Sisters gathered in the Undercroft, as the Abandoned House was smoldering now. As she entered the Chapel, the priest yelled out a curse and stormed out of the Chapel. Confused, Tadeesa continued down the stairs to the Undercroft, a bit troubled by the holy man's use of swearing. Tadeesa opened the Undercroft door to see many faces, more than she had expected. "Greetings by Siblings," she said,"It has been a long and lonesome time since I last saw your beautiful faces. I just had the pleasure of killing an unsuspecting traveler on the way here the other day." Tadeesa leaned up against the wall next to Parthia.

Acheron moved to where all of his brothers and sisters would see him, being bathed in the light. "You're right, Parthia. Only the people inside of the sanctuary would be the only thing harmed. No one else could have done it either, the Morag Tong, maybe, but we need to find leads to go on. And yes the man or woman who did this could very well be hidden in the city, though it will be difficult to find him; there are alot of people here." Acheron said, removing his coat and folding it. He laid it over his shoulder.

"We should stay here for the night and get rest. Then, we could begin searching tomorrow."

"Is there a possibility that the Cheydinhal Watch could have burned it down," asked Tadeesa, "The Count knows of Our presence in The Sanctuary, and maybe he worked up the courage to set the House on fire." Tadeesa did not say anything after that, as she was occupied with the thought that The Count had finally took action against The Brotherhood.

"Tadeesa, i'll go with you to count Indarys and figure this out. We'll ask him to lock down the entire city until we have this figured out. Based on his answer we'll know his involvement." Parthia spoke with her eyes set on the Argonian. As she stepped closer to Tadeesa she spoke in a softer more quiet tone. "Are you ready to go?"

Hopefully the rest of them would partner up and go speak with the Dark Brotherhood contacts around the city. Even she did not know all of the contacts save for a couple. The Dark Brotherhood had a rather wide information net strewn about through Cheydinhal and all of Tamriel. Simple shop keepers and even homeless pick pockets would spill information with the right type of price. She already had her contact in mind.

"We'll make a few quick stops beforehand." She muttered as she began to walk slowly toward the door hoping Tadeesa would follow. Really she was just glad to see a more familiar face and a reason to get out of the cold undercroft. Something about it just didn't feel right.

Tadeesa followed Parthia to the door, happy that she didn't have to stay in the Undercroft for too long. "What will we do if the Count is involved," asked Tadeesa, "It would be rather troublesome to slit his throat, even if we did it where no one could find him." Tadeesa pondered the thought of kiling the Count and a smile grew on her face. "I didn't have time to stop and get a drink," Tadeesa told Parthia, "how about we go get one after we finish our business with the Count? I would like to find out what has happened with you since we last met."

Verus's smirk returned as he listened to Parthia speak. Admittedly, he didn't think much of her at first, but she was smart. Aside from her name, he didn't know much about her. When she had first arrived, he had viewed her as a foolish little girl, but he abandoned that assumption quickly, as he knew better than most to never judge by appearances. While he was somewhat curious as to just how much skill she possessed, he had never had the opportunity to really talk to her or see her in action. Of course, the same could be said for most of the people at the Sanctuary.

He watched her as she spoke to the newly arrived Argonian, then turned to leave with her, saying something about visiting the Count. He doubted that the Count, or the guards for that matter would have anything to do with this, but it was possible. It didn't seem the style of the guards to resort to arson, and he doubted that they had anything to do with it. The Count was not possibly so foolish as to betray the Brotherhood, but if he did, retribution would be swift. Now that he thought of it, the Morag Tong did seem a plausible option. He hadn't even considered them, and he had to compliment the Bosmer girl for coming up with it.

He walked over towards where he had been standing before and sat down, laying his satchel down on the ground beside him. He then removed an apple from it and took a bite out of it before returning to his thoughts.

"Oh...sure...yeah a drink..." Parthia didn't really answer with full intent. Her mind was in a bit of a daze. As she took took to the steps she pulled the hood over her head hiding any obvious mark of her appearence. It felt somewhat warmer at the top level. She kept her pace a bit quicker then usual and made no eye contact with anyone that may be up this late in prayer. Parthia remained quiet as they stepped outside of the chapel. She just stood there for a moment looking about. The soft smoke from the sanctuary could be seen in the distance to the east. What would she do without the Dark Brotherhood? It paid for her schooling and without that she was better off dead. A heavy sigh escaped her mouth.

Telindius grinned to himself as two females left the chapel, and he recognized one as the female Bosmer he had seen in the undercroft who called herself Parthia. He dropped off the roof of the house he was waiting on and dismissed his chameleon spell. Now it was time to use some guile. If he convinced these females to find Serosi, he could let them do all of the work, and keep his eyes on them as well, which would provide a solution to the problem of finding Serosi and watching out for the dark brotherhood. He quickly changed his stance and started staggering towards the females, acting drunk and mumbling to himself as he went. "Damn Serosi...in that building...coming out with fire licking at his heels...like no one would notice him...Tong scum." He stopped as he reached the females and blinked at them as if in surprise. "Could you spare some money for a poor mercenary and guide like myself, your ladyships?"

Velandris nodded as his two sisters left the undercroft. He removed his robe and dropepd it to the floor. "By sithis, that was gettign hot." He muttered and pondered for a moment. "Well Im going to head to the lodge to get soemthign to eat. I've had a long trip coming back from blackwood." With that said he excused himself from the rest of his brothers and took leave out of the chapel. As he entered the street he took a look around at the patrolling guards and the beggars asking some citizens for a coin for. He missed his home while he hunted in Blackwood.

He took in a deep breath of the fresh air and held it in for a few seconds and then started his way to the newlands lodge. The air still had the scent of the burnign sanctuary and there was some smoke still rising from the abandoned house. He walked back over the bridge and passed by a beggar who was leaned on the railing passed out. Velandris stopped stareing at the poor man and sighed. "A coin for a poor war veteran?" The man asked as he opened his eyes and held out his hand. Velandris looked at him grimmly then looked down to his coin purse wich hung from his belt. "Don't you have anything better to do then beg for coin? I mean in all honestly theres got to be work for you? The fighters guild is recruiting I hear!" The man sighed and startd walkign away. Velandris shook his head and then pulled four gold coins from the purse. "Here beggar!" He said forcing the coins in the mans hand,

"A quick question if I may good sir?" Velandris asked pulling out his innocent good citizen act. "Could you tell me anything of what happened to the sanctuary?" The man smiled as he saw the four gold coins then looked back up at Velandris and sighed. "My friend I was sleeping near the southern wall. I can only say that it was set on fire and the guards are blaming a kid or something." the man gave another smile. "Thank you kind sir for the coin, I'll beable to feel my son for a day or so." With that said the man walked away. Velandris bowed his head in annoyance. But beggars are truethfull for their own prices. He looked back at the smoke rising from the sanctuary one more time then headed to the lodge.

As he entered seeing the Dunmer maitren he sat in the corner where it was darker. she approached him with a smile. "You look hungry my friend." Velandris sat back in his chair. "I wil ltake a heated ham please along with some bread and cheese. Oh andd maybe a beer?" He asked politly still using his good act." The dunmer women nodded. "Will that be all for you sera?" Velandris nodded and leaned his head on the wall exhausted and the women walked away. It felt good to sit down for change and relax. He had carried some heavy assignment lately, that is untill he returned seeign the sanctuary burning. He played the odds in his head. Morag tong. What would they be doing here? Why would they risk their lives leaving their homeland? The questions ran threw his head.

He knew all too well of the fued between both factions. The tong and the Dark Brotherhood had been at eachothers throats for years he couldn't count. To him it was just another ancient war. It struck him odd however of why they would be here. btu he didn;t question that they were here only why they would be here. "Heres your drink sir and your bread and cheese, your ham wil be ready soon." The women placed his beer on the table along with his food. "Thank you." He said as the lady walked away. He took the bottle of beer and drank a bit and set it down to slice a peice of cheese and bread to snack on untill his ham arrived.

Chapel of Arkay

Drynos acknowledged the two women leaving. He looked around the room. Wine bottle in hand and took in the faces. The only people that Drynos really talks to were the regulars at the Bridge Inn. He stood up and pulled his dungeree strap back up onto his stocky shoulder. "So... ummm... would anyone want to come with me? You can do the interrogating!" Drynos had never been as good with words as he was with his glass shortsword that dangled close to his legs, concealed behind the dungerees. Drynos looked around the room hopefully and tried to pull his friendliest smile.

Tadeesa turned to the drunken man, and rested her right hand on her dagger, [censored], in case in trouble occured. A chill swept over Tadeesa when she clearly saw the man, she recognized him. Could he have been from another town? This troubled Tadeesa, as she was wary of "drunks" as they aren't always what they appear to be. "Are you saying you saw the arsonist," asked Tadeesa, "I'll spare a few coins if you tell us where he went." Tadeesa kept a straight face, yet inside she was filled with joy, this "drunken" man was vulnurable and would never suspect her intentions. She had no intent to give up her gold to this pathetic wretch, but she would give him the pleasure of her cold, sharp dagger at his throat.

Telindius smiled inwardly as the argonian female rested her hand on her dagger. Dark brotherhood assassins were all the same, all too willing to kill anyone, and without honour. He would have to be wary of them if he wished to stay alive and well. He wobbled a bit on his feet as he replied to the female. "All I know is that the arsonist is called Serosi, and he is of the Morag Tong. I saw him flee the building that was on fire and run off into the streets, he could be anywhere now though if he used magic or perhaps just a fast horse to travel. If you want to find and kill the scum you can give me some coins and I'll help you. I owe him for killing one of my fellow mercenaries back in Morrowind when we were on a campaign together and a chance at revenge would be good." He gave the females a wicked grin, and winking at the Bosmer he slowly reached out with his mind, releasing one of his most powerful charm spells at them . "I'll even give you fine ladies a special price for my services, what do you say?"

"Keep your money, pig," Tadeesa snapped at the drunk, "We don't need you to find him. Go beg somewhere else for a drink, you filthy wretch!" Tadeesa thought twice about killing the drunk. He was dirty and unkempt, she woudn't have much pleasure with him. "We must get to the castle, Parthia. If this Serosi is still here than we can lock the gates and keep him inside."

Out of nowhere, Tadeesa screamed and fell to the ground. She was unconcious and was not breathing. A fantasy appeared in her mind, slowly but surely. It showed Tadeesa in a room getting a good night rest, then a maid walked into the room and set out upon the bed what appeared to be strands of rope. Tadeesa rose up from her bed and walked towards the maid, who was exiting the room, and plunged a knife into her back. Another scream from Tadeesa, and she woke up from her unconciousness.

Parthia snapped to when she realized what had happened. The charm spell made her somewhat calm and all together more "curious" about the drunk. She wanted to ask about the man the drunk mentioned but Tadeesa was now on the floor screaming. She fell down to her knees and tried to shake her partner. Then out of the panic her instincts kicked in. She was studying to be a healer. Out of the rather large robe, two small and delicate elven hands slipped out and a glow came about them as she used her healing abilities toward Tadeesa. Around them the streets were mostly empty and now the moons were uncovered of the clouds letting a bright glow to shine down on them all. The areas between the stones of the street were muddy as evident on Parthia's robe, or rather the robe she "borrowed" from the Mages Guild.

Verus looked up at hearing Drynos speak and simply stared at him for a moment, as if considering whether he should respond or not. Finally, he gave a loud sigh and rose, grabbing his satchel from the ground as he did so. He walked towards the doors but stopped when he reached them. He then turned and looked at the Dunmer before running a hand through his hair. "Well come on then. I only hope you know more people around here than I do. I'm afraid I don't do much socializing other than at the Sanctuary, though I suppose we could ask some beggars or visit a bar and interrogate some drunks," he said, giving a expression of disgust at the mention of entering a bar. He didn't especially dislike alcohol or those who drink it, but he did find it to be beneath him, and he despised visiting bars and inns with bars, as they often tended to be too noisy and busy for his tastes.

Truthfully, he would have much rather gone out alone so he could actually think in silence, but he wasn't about to leave by himself under the circumstances, and to him, leaving with the Dunmer who he knew slightly was better than staying here with an intimidating Nord he didn't know.

Acheron moved towards the heavy wooden door leading out of the undercroft. He turned around and said, "I suppose we could leave since everyone else has. If we're going to find this man or woman, we should go now."

He opened the door and moved into the chapel itself, seeing the stained glass of the Gods shining under Masser and Secunda. Acheron took a deep breath and stepped out into the cool night, the smell of smoke came wafting by. He put his coat on and made his way to Newlands Lodge.

Some few minuts went by and Velandris had finished his food and drink. He felt better and relaxed after the rest and he looked across the room at the dunmer Woman and then stood up. He reached into his coin prse plling out about ten coins and walked over to the bar she stood behind. "Than kyou for the meal and drink. the ham was fantastic." He pulled a smile on his face and set the coins down on the table and left the inn before she could say anything. as he stepped outside he looked down the road twards the chapel then saw Parthia and Tadeesa. Hw walked in their general direction and the nnoticed a drunk that was bothering them. He frowned grimmly at the man and stopped a few feet away from his dark sisters. "Any trouble?" He asked stareing grimmly at the "drunk" Man. "And who are you? another beggar?"

Drynos nodded and paced towards the arched doors that led out of the undercroft and up to the altar of Arkay. "Our best bets would be... the Bridge Inn ran by http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Mariana_Ancharia or the Newlands Lodge ran by http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion%3a%44ervera_Romalen
it's up to you were we head. The arsonist will of needed a place to stay. Unless is was a Sanctuary member. An Inn sounds like the best plan."
Drynos pulled a smile bearing his white teeth. His red eyes gleamed underneath the flames that licked the lanterns brightening up the undercroft. Drynos enjoyed company and would rather have someone by his side than walk the streets alone, the arsonist or arsonists could potentially be very powerful and if there were two brothers together it could maybe help the odds. A group of more than two could look suspicious randomly wandering into Cheydinhal. Drynos was friendly with most of the regulars in the inns and hadnt noticed any unusual faces.

Telindius watched as the strange argonian female screamed and fell to the floor his mind vaguely detached as he tried to figure out how to be more useful to them. He spun around as an imperial man shouted hello at the females and the spun again as the bosmer male he had seen earlier approached and asked who he was. He flashed the bosmer one of his friendliest smiles, bowed low to him and then replied. "I am merely a mercenary looking for work good sir, and these ladies required information from me so I was just stopping to help them, and perhaps take employement if the opportunity arises. Who may I ask, are you?" As he said this he released another charm spell, this one aimed at the Bosmer male. He wobbled a bit on his feet as he did so, the energy required for so many spells in one day finally starting to take its toll. He smiled slightly as he wobbled, giving the impression that it was just due to his drunkness.

The horse saw all of this, and neighed loudly. Minegoth got up, and made his way outside. There was now a large amount of people gathered there. Instead of join them, Minegoth readied his bow, and tossed his cloak away from his quiver. Chances are, this is not an isolated incident, and the chapel has been compromised. Minegoth sat with an arrow in the bowstring, pondering the happenings. Maybe the Elder Council had found out and was infiltrating them? Mercenaries? All these things drifted around in Minegoth's mind. Not once did he consider the Tong. No way they would be that gutsy. Assassins (well, most of them) weren't known for their guile. They were known for their efficieny. But then again, Serosi was a Tong...Minegoth stopped thinking and watched, as a massive headache made itself known.

Verus pondered what the Dunmer had said for a moment before responding. "That seems like a logical conclusion, though I would have left the city by now if it were me. Lets try the Newlands Lodge first. That seems to be a likely place for a Morag Tong to stay," he said, his smirk now returning at the thought of finding the person responsible. He could already imagine what kind of torture the man would undergo before being executed. Whoever did this would wish for death before the end, oh yes.

He then turned and opened the door, heading up the steps and into the main chapel. He got several curious glances, but he noticed that most of the monks appeared to be glaring at him. He simply shrugged this off before leaving the chapel. Normally, he would have activated an invisibility spell by this point, but since he wasn't alone, he settled for raising his hood, which would at least hide his face.

When he left the chapel, he took a deep breath of fresh air and looked around. The first thing he noticed was that Parthia, the other Bosmer, and the Argonian were standing out in the open talking to a drunk. He sneered in disgust at the man, though the action would go unnoticed under his hood. He examined the drunk from his position, watching him carefully. While there didn't appear to be anything strange about him, he hadn't survived this long without being cautious, and the recent events had only served to make him slightly paranoid.

Without even bothering to look behind him and see if the Dunmer had followed, he whispered, "Drynos, do you recognize that man over there, speaking to our brother and sisters?"

Drynos let the door slam behind him. He acknowledged the question Verus had asked him and peered through the dark. He recognized the Bosmer and Argonian from the undercroft. The first two to leave. They hadn't gotten far. The other drunkard he unfortunately didn't know and became quite suspicious. "I can't say I do, Verus. Maybe we should investigate?" He looked at his partner and waited for a decision.
