I seriously hope that's true. I hate how nothing can be done about those crappy destroyed buildings. At the very least we should be able to completely dismantle them and build replacements.

+1 for being able to flatten the whole area. Those ruined houses you can't recycle just get in the way of fort building :)

The ones you build yes but not the ones that are already there. The ones you can't edit are just part of the map and can't be changed or repaird.

Ya you can scrap the collapsed ones to gain an empty foundation to build on but the ones that are already standing are uneditable.

It annoys me to see them constantly hammering away at the work shop walls to no avail.

I also wish I could flatten the whole place.

And I'm cross that after trying to build a junk wall around the entire town I found there is one house where they can still get in by climbing up an tree trunk that can't be scrapped, plus I read the raiders spawn inside the town anyway.

Any suggestions on a better location will be gratefully received.

Why are they always hammering them? What a waste of time whoever programmed that, funny they have a job or are allowed to earn money when not contributing to Bethesda at all, hahaha

What they are doing is actually adding stuff to your workbench over time.. metal, screws, wood, food, water.. That's what all the hammering is about. They are collecting scrap for you.. Make sure to build the scrapping bench though. I'm not sure if that's necessary or not but I built it and then assigned people to it.

At any rate, I had no problem in Sanctuary incorporating the old houses. I cleaned them out completely and turned them into little livable spaces. In reality they are no less sturdy than the crappy wooden/metal structures you can build. Scrap every single thing you can and turn the whole area into a giant compound. You can also assign settlers to beds so they won't try to sleep in your house.

First thing I did in sanctuary is build myself a nice house. .. Then I saved Preston's group and they came traipsing into my town and into my house. Had to keep them from getting their muddy boots all over my floors, so I put a bunch of beds next door in the workbench house and made them sleep there until I sorted them out.

Ahhhh, I wondered why I'd built the Scavenging Bench. Thanks for the heads up Vyvexthorne.

Useful and constructive post - much appreciated.

Is it just something I'm doing wrong or can you not put doors on already existing house's?

Would be cool if you could at least repair the old houses. If you sleep in them or on open field makes not much difference as they are now

Never worked for me. There are very hard limitations on the construction features. I don't think you can do anything to the static buildings. No scrapping of non-destroyed buildings and no ability to alter or extend them in any way. Asside from putting things like decorations and lights which can go on any surface.

Oh, balls. Also when I place stuff on tables and travel back it usually has clipped through and is rolling about on the floor, mocking me.

I honestly like having the houses. I'm using them myself. They may not look nice but that's the wasteland for you... Building your own houses wouldn't look very nicely anyways. Actually, I honestly hadn't done much at the other settlements and been trying my best to restore Sanctuary as much as possible... Just need a lot of copper. (The place is filled with sentry guns so no worries on raiders spawning on the inside).

You can always extend the existing houses by building on the roof if you can reach it. You can with some of the structures.

The point about spawns inside settlements should not be the only spawn instance since we clearly saw Raiders attacking Sanctuary by racing across the bridge to it and getting mortared in the process during the E3 presentation. Unless they changed that at the last minute, might be some randomness involved.

It would be great if the settlers restored the buildings a little atleast. Like repairing the roofs and swept the floor. It kind of enoys me that they let big piles of leaf stay in the building when they can make it a bit more homely. Or as some one else said, just raise it all to the ground. But then I'd like some more walls without holes in it. There is magazines with "modern" lights so why no better walls.

Oh, and all the weed in the fields and the bushes that sticks up out of the floor that we build.

With the build limit, you'd just have a bunch of empty lots.

I had an issue with attack not able to finish. Load some saves several times. In eight out of ten cases the spawn of the attack was within sanctuary. So yes, it's random, but if you embattled the whole village it's very disappointing.

also, if you're not using the unremovable houses, make sure to put up some kind of boarding/wall over the doorways to stop raiders getting into them. I had a ten minute standoff cos I was in my fort and the raiders were hiding in the houses and we were sniping each other lol. lesson learned ;)

Do the raiders spawn at some specified points? Evil thoughts about an fence around the area? Yes just putting up some turrets should do the tricks anyway.

As far as I know, the settlers will only play an animation that makes them appear to be repairing the houses (no changes actually occur) and this happens unless they auto-assign themselves to a work station or you assign them.
